Marvel has been coming up with a lot of new strategies to fix the mistakes they have made these past few years. One of the most creative solutions has to be the concept of Marvel Spotlight. Many fans were upset with how every single project in Marvel had a level of continuity to another, which made casual watching impossible.

Denzel Washington is undoubtedly one of the greatest actors who has graced the silver screen with many acclaimed performances to his credit. The actor has played heroic characters for most of his career in impressive films such as Mo’ Better Blues, Philadelphia, Courage Under Fire, and Glory winning an Oscar for the latter.
Denzel Washington as Easy Rawlins in Devil in a Blue Dress
His second Oscar win for Best Actor came with his antagonistic turn as Alonzo in Antoine Fuqua’s Training Day. Washington had never played a sleazy and morally complicated character like Alonzo before. However, he was vying to play one much before that film and one such antagonistic performance that he was envious of was of Don Cheadle in Devil in a Blue Dress.

Back in 2000, director Ridley Scott took us back to 180 Ad for Gladiator, which told the story of Roman general Maximus Decimus Meridius (played by Russell Crowe), who is favored by Emperor Marcus Aurelius to be his successor because his own son, Commodus, is unfit to rule. Commodus disagrees, so he murders his father, has Maximus arrested, and has Maximus’s wife and son killed. While Commodus establishes himself as the new emperor, Maximus escapes from captivity – only to be captured again, this time by slavers who sell him off to become a gladiator. Soon he’s fighting in front of Commodus in Rome’s Colosseum… and it all builds up to Commodus challenging Maximus to a duel. Gladiator was a major box office success and racked up multiple Academy Award wins, including Best Picture. So there was already talk of a sequel in 2001, but it ended up taking more than...

Over the course of its decades-long journey, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has constantly introduced captivating characters. One such addition to the franchise took place in the 2022 Disney+ miniseries Moon Knight, introducing Marc Spector, aka Moon Knight, starring the Emmy-nominated actor Oscar Issacc.

Despite its widespread acclaim, certain elements, including the action sequences and the level of violence, left some fans divided. In a revealing insight, the writer of the show Beau DeMayo shared the inspiration behind the intensity of violence in the show, revealing a surprising parallel to Chris Evans’ Captain America films.
Captain America Movies Significantly Influenced Moon Knight’s Violence
While Marvel has recently embraced a more mature approach to its projects, has steered clear of incorporating R-rated content into its franchise. It has left some fans disappointed, especially when it comes to certain characters not fully embodying the intense nature depicted in the comics.

Joseph Quinn’s popularity increased following his scene-stealing role as Eddie in Stranger Things season 4. Before that, the actor had small roles in films like Overlord, and Hoard. He played Arthur Havisham in the BBC series Dickensian and Leonard Bast in Howards End. He is currently one of the rising stars whom people are excited about.
Joseph Quinn’s breakout role was in Stranger Things as Eddie Munson
Quinn landed his biggest role as he has been tapped in to play Johnny Storm/ Human Torch in the upcoming Fantastic Four film. Instead of sending in the lions, Paramount unleashed a first look at Ridley Scott’s highly-anticipated Gladiator II at CinemaCon in Las Vegas. Appropriately screened at Caesar’s Palace, where the annual onslaught of film and television previews takes place, the sequel to Scott’s 2000 action drama starring Russel Crowe and Joaquin Phoenix includes a brutal display of power and corruption as Lucius (Paul Mescal) aims to become as formidable as Crowe’s iconic character Maximus Decimus Meridius.
During Paramount’s CinemaCon presentation for Gladiator II, Ridley Scott introduced the film from London while the entire cast sent comments in a video compilation. Scott says Gladiator II is more spectacular than the original. Thems bold words, sir!
Pedro Pascal has always been a huge Gladiator fan and has seen it twice in theaters. Meanwhile, Denzel Washington says the new film is why people go to the movies.

It's been 24 years since Ridley Scott's "Gladiator" brought the glory and gore of ancient Rome to gorgeous life, and now the prolific director has returned to the tale with "Gladiator 2." Set 20-30 years after the events of the first film, "Gladiator 2" will star Paul Mescal as Lucius, the son of Roman Empress Lucilla. Though Maximus (Russell Crowe) died along with Lucius's vicious uncle Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix) at the end of "Gladiator," both Lucilla and Lucius survived.
The movie will also star Denzel Washington as an arms dealer who has a stable of gladiators and Joseph Quinn as Emperor Caracalla, along with Pedro Pascal, May Calamawy, Peter Mensah, Matt Lucas, Fred Hechinger, and Derek Jacobi. That's quite a packed cast, although with a reportedly massive budget of more than $300 million, "Gladiator 2" could prove to be a disaster financially while paying off well for movie-goers who want to see some high-end historical fiction.

CiniemaCon 2024 is upon us, and as we prepare for a deluge of news, previews, and commentary from the show floor, JoBlo’s Editor-in-Chief, Chris Bumbray, has spotted the official title for Ridley Scott’s upcoming Gladiator sequel. Forgoing subtitles, such as Gladiator: Blood on the Sand or Gladiator: Wicked Empire, Ridley Scott’s Gladiator sequel is titled Gladiator II. While the title is simple, it aptly includes the Roman numeral for two. I see what you did there, Mr. Scott. Sometimes, the obvious choice is also the correct one.

At one point in time, Marvel Studios' concept designs for May Calamawy's Scarlet Scarab looked Way different than what audiences got.
While Moon Knight is mainly known for introducing Oscar Isaac's titular hero into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it also gave the world its first Egyptian superhero in the MCU. Interestingly enough, the character is basically completely original, having pulled very little from the comics.
Calamawy previously shared how it is "an honor just to be able to represent or to be Middle Eastern and shine a light on that region."

Given the film’s torturous production, Gladiator 2 is undoubtedly over budget. But just how much is a point of contention, it seems.
Ridley Scott’s Gladiator 2 has suffered quite a few issues throughout its production. Crew members were injured on set and hospitalised. The film was shut down due to the strikes, costing the production an estimated $600,000 per week as the industry shutdown lasted for months on end. PETA sent a letter to Scott expressing concern about the way horses and monkeys were being treated on set. One of the film’s stars, Barry Keoghan, left on the eve of production due to scheduling issues as well.
The film is now in the can, but at what cost? The labour stoppages alone were slated to have cost the film around $10m, but that doesn’t account for the film’s budget almost doubling, from an expected $165m to almost $310m.

Paramount could throw Ridley Scott to the lions if Gladiator 2 fails to perform like gangbusters at the box office. A new report from The Hollywood Reporter reveals the ballooning cost of production on the anticipated sequel, with insiders close to the project saying the film budgeted at $165 million is closer to $310 million. Let that amount sink in for a moment.
Per THR’s sources, the net cost of the 49-day shoot was under $250 million. “It’s a runaway,” says one source. “It’s not being managed.” How did this happen? The WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes did not help. Production for Gladiator 2 shut down in July because of the negotiations, costing the studio $600,000 a week, roughly $10 million. Scott resumed filming in December, though some say he continued to capture footage using extras during the strikes.
Some wonder if the Gladiator 2 set was cursed. In June, six crewmembers sustained non-life-threatening burn injuries.

A pact between Apple Original Films, A24, Spike Lee, and Denzel Washington is making noise this Thursday with news about a remake of Akira Kurosawa’s 1963 crime drama High and Low. Lee and Washington are old friends, of course, with the duo’s fourth collaboration being for 2006’s Inside Man.
In Kurosawa’s High and Low, an executive of a Yokohama shoe company becomes a victim of extortion when his chauffeur’s son is kidnapped by mistake and held for ransom. Details about Lee’s remake are scarce, though we know it will be an English-language reimagining of the original—details about how and if the plot will differ from Kurosawa’s classic crime drama remains a mystery.
Alan Fox and Lee wrote the screenplay for the High and Low remake, with A24, Escape Artists, and Mandalay Pictures handling development. Production kicks off in March, with Todd Black producing for...

Ridley Scott is likely to be pretty happy that filming on Gladiator 2 has wrapped, following an ‘eventful’ shoot.
Bless Ridley Scott. The man is in his 80s and is making films with the sort of energy that someone half his age would struggle to match. Even still, the production of Gladiator 2 must have tested even his legendary levels of endurance. It’s all over now, though, reports World of Reel, with Scott and star Paul Mescal taking to social media to celebrate the production coming to a close.
Let’s recap on just how tricky a shoot it was for Scott and his collaborators. Back in the summer, four crew were hospitalised when a filming sequence went wrong. That alone would make things difficult, but that came on the heels of Barry Keoghan leaving on the eve of production due to a scheduling conflict. Losing an actor of...

It’s time to get back to work! The end of the 118-day SAG-AFTRA strike is finally here, and production for some of Hollywood’s most anticipated films can resume! With writers, actors, crew members, and more returning to Tinseltown, cinephiles can expect release date shuffles, reshoots, and creative shake-ups for projects across the entertainment spectrum. For example, Riley Scott’s Gladiator 2 will return to production when set builders repair the project’s elaborate filming environments.

After a long pause, ‘Gladiator 2’ is finally set to resume its journey back to the big screen. The highly anticipated sequel to Ridley Scott’s 2000 blockbuster, ‘Gladiator,’ faced a major setback due to a strike by the SAG-AFTRA. However, with the strike now concluded, the film is ready to spring back into action.
Production for ‘Gladiator 2’ originally kicked off in June 2023, with expectations to wrap up in four months. But the unexpected strike starting July 14, 2023, brought everything to a standstill. The halt left the magnificent sets in Malta, including a life-sized Coliseum, in need of significant refurbishment.

Although the production of Gladiator 2 is currently on pause until the SAG-AFTRA strike concludes, the movie is set to receive quite a bit of money from the Malta Film Commission. Studios typically go to great lengths to ensure safety on their sets, but accidents do happen. It seems that there has been an accident during the production of Gladiator 2 in Morocco which has left six crew members with non-life-threatening burn injuries.
The Gladiator 2 accident took place on June 7th and involved a large explosion during the shooting of a planned stunt sequence. Deadline has heard that four of the six crew members who were injured are still in hospital, but that they are in stable condition as they receive treatment. The news was first reported by The Sun. We can only hope that those injured in the accident will fully recover.

Are you not entertained? Because Ridley Scott is returning to his place of highest success, the film that has won more awards than any other he has made in his over four-decade-long career. "Gladiator" picked up five Oscars the year after its release, including Best Picture and Best Actor for Russell Crowe, and it has since been regarded as one of the best movies of its genre and the 2000s. Incidentally, a follow-up has been in the making, in some form or another, for over two decades now.
But the shape of the as-yet-untitled "Gladiator 2" has changed considerably. As it now stands, the sequel is going to follow Lucius Verus, the young boy from "Gladiator" who inadvertently told his conniving, regicidal uncle Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix) of the plot to topple him. Though Lucius bore the name of his alleged real-life co-emperor father, he will be revealed as the son...

Though Ridley Scott has been full steam ahead on casting for his Gladiator sequel, he's had to make one change — while Barry Keoghan had been making a deal to play the antagonist, Emperor Geta, word arrives via Deadline that a schedule clash means he's had to drop out of the movie. But The White Lotus' Fred Hechinger is now in talks to replace him.
And Hechinger is just the latest addition to an already hefty cast, joining at the same time as Moon Knight's May Calamawy, Lior Raz, Derek Jacobi (reprising his role as Gracchus), Peter Mensah and Matt Lucas.
Already in the film? Paul Mescal as the grown Lucius, son of Connie Nielsen's Lucilla (who is back for the sequel), plus Denzel Washington, Pedro Pascal and Joseph Quinn.
Paramount has planted a flag in 22 November, 2024 as the film's release date.

Ridley Scott has been filling out the cast of Gladiator 2 as Deadline has the scoop on a number of new additions. The outlet reports that May Calamawy (Moon Knight) has joined the cast, alongside Lior Raz (The Crowded Room), Peter Mensah (Spartacus), Matt Lucas (Wonka), and Derek Jacobi (Murder on the Orient Express). It’s also reported that Fred Hechinger (The White Lotus) is in negotiations to play Emperor Geta, the role that was originally set to be played by Barry Keoghan before scheduling conflicts forced him to drop out.
The character May Calamawy plays is said to be quite important to the story, so Ridley Scott did a “thorough search” before Calamawy won the role after multiple auditions. You might also remember that Derek Jacobi actually appeared in the first Gladiator movie as Senator Gracchus, and he’ll reprise that role for the sequel. These new Gladiator 2...

It’s over! It’s officially over. Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is finally in our rear view mirror, and what did we learn? We learned that Marvel Studios wasn’t going to stop taking risks after capping off Phase 3 with the box office juggernaut of Avengers: Endgame. In fact, they were going to take more risks than ever. Sometimes, those risks paid off. Other times, they did not. But during a transformative time for the MCU, Phase 4 was, for the most part, determined not to offer the one thing that would have made older fans happy but would have perhaps discouraged newer, younger fans from emerging: more of the same.
As such, the MCU got a whole slate of brand-new and diverse characters. Moon Knight, the Eternals, Ms. Marvel, Shang-Chi, She-Hulk, Kate Bishop, Yelena Belova, John Walker, Ironheart, Agatha, Red Guardian, Clea, Echo,...

There are a lot of words to describe Hulu’s “Ramy,” but creator Ramy Youssef has a favorite: Naked.
Youssef stars in the Hulu comedy about a wayward Egyptian-American millennial, which often sits in the discomfort of his self involvement, his mistakes, and the consequences of his actions.
“Some people call it cringey, but I think I call it naked,” Youssef told IndieWire over the phone on the heels of Season 3’s Hulu premiere. “There’s just this nakedness that I really enjoy where I’m not trying to fabricate, I’m not trying to be someone who’s just going for shock value.”
The shock is still there — when Ramy helps a friend masturbate, accidentally kills a dog, or cheats on his fiancee with his cousin — but it serves a purpose.

Bella Hadid‘s Ramy character is revealed in the Season 3 trailer, above. Returning to Hulu September 30, the Ramy Youssef-led comedy-drama follows first-generation, Egyptian-American Ramy Hassan and his family as they navigate spirituality in their politically-divided New Jersey neighborhood. In the new season, Ramy continues to question his Muslim faith as part of a millennial generation that doubts an afterlife even exists. His family is forced to confront having lived a life dedicated to worldly concerns — and in some cases, lies — while Ramy all but abandons his spiritual journey, instead dedicating himself to the diamond business he has with his uncle. Hadid makes her acting debut as Lena, revealed in the trailer to be a love interest of Ramy’s buddy Steve (Steve Way). The two met on a Muslim dating app called Muslim Match, which apparently does not require users like Steve to be Muslim. Ramy also stars Moon Knight star May Calamawy,...

Ramy continues to bring a new perspective to the screen as it explores the challenges of what it’s like to be caught between a religious community who believes life is a moral test, and a millennial generation that doubts an afterlife even exists.
In Season 3, his family is forced to confront having lived a life dedicated to worldly concerns — and in some cases, lies — while Ramy all but abandons his spiritual journey, instead dedicating himself to him and his uncle’s diamond business.
The series also stars Laith Nakli, Hiam Abbass, Amr Waked, May Calamawy, Dave Merheje, Mohammed Amer, and Steve Way.

This Moon Knight article contains spoilers.
“Why else would we be in Cairo?” When Oscar Isaac asked that question in a viral TikTok video with director Mohamed Diab, it sparked hopes that a new season of Moon Knight was in the works. After all, since the first season ended its run in May, there has been no clear sign of what the future holds for Marc Spector, Steven Grant, and Jake Lockley in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Between the show’s lack of clear connection to the rest of the MCU and the single-season deal signed by Isaac, many wondered if the series would return for another go around at all. But while no official announcement has been made, the video — and Diab’s decision to share it with the header “Moonknight season 2?” — seems to indicate that Marc Spector and his many personalities could indeed return to television screens.
Sooooo Moon Knight Season 2 Or pic.
