The popular Netflix docu-series “Tiger King” will be the subject of a new comic book coming in June, according to TidalWave Productions.
TidalWave announced on Tuesday it will add the Netflix phenomenon to the “Infamous” series of pop culture comic books. It will be written by Michael Frizell and illustrated by Joe Paradise.
“You can’t make this stuff up. I never imagined I’d be researching a book like this,” said writer Michael Frizell. “It was a challenge to find a focus for the comic because there’s so much happening.”
“I just remember starting to watch the show saying to myself, ‘Yeah that tracks.’ We all have Joes and Caroles in our lives, and it’s always interesting to me to learn how these extreme characters got to be where they wound up.”

Is there a Joker curse? Beyond The Joker:The Man Who Laughs attempts to answer this question by examining the clown as an archetype throughout history. The story starts out by detailing Heath Ledger’s experience during the shooting of The Dark Knight up to his tragic death after the film wrapped. The book then jumps to 1802 the year that Joseph Grimaldi created the familiar white-face look that we still associate with clowns today. Grimaldi it seems was the prototypical “sad clown” hiding his tears behind a smile and eventually a bottle. The story makes it’s way to John Wayne Gacy the serial killer who famously worked as a clown when he...

Paula Deen is going to star in a comic book based on her life. The celebrity chef, who has lost much of her food-based empire after admitting use of the N-word, will be the subject of "Female Force: Paula Deen."
The comic, set to be released in October, comes from Bluewater Productions. In addition to Deen's rise in the celebrity cooking world, the comic will detail the chef's rapid fall from grace, Reuters reports. This will be one of a series of comic books based on the lives of celebrities -- past issues have focused on the likes of William Shatner and Ellen DeGeneres.
Bluewater president Darren G. Davis had no apologies for going forward with the Deen-based book. "She really changed cooking -- and Southern cooking -- for women," he said. "We're not jumping on the bandwagon ... She fits in with women like Julia Child and Barbara Walters. We're not going to flambe her.

Despite her recent controversy, media firestorm and loss of several sponsors — along with being fired from Food Network — due to her inflammatory racial comments, Paula Deen will still be the subject of a Female Force biographical comic book to be available this fall, according to publisher Bluewater Productions. “We do not condone [Paula Deen's] use of racial insensitivities, and think that intolerance has no place in a just society,” said Bluewater’s president Darren G. New York, July 10 (Reuters) - Celebrity chef Paula Deen, who lost book deals, contracts and her television cooking show on The Food Network after she admitted using a racial slur, is set to be a comic book star of female empowerment, a publisher said on Wednesday.
Bluewater Productions, which publishes a series of female celebrity-driven comic books, said the biography comic book called "Female Force: Paula Deen" will be released in October and include Deen's fall from grace.
"She really changed cooking - and Southern cooking - for women," said Bluewater President Darren G. Davis, who added that the comic book had been in the works for several months before many of Deen's business partners cut ties with her.

London — When Ray Harryhausen was 13, he was so overwhelmed by "King Kong" that he vowed he would create otherworldly creatures on film. He fulfilled his desire as an adult, thrilling audiences with skeletons in a sword fight, a gigantic octopus destroying the Golden Gate Bridge, and a six-armed dancing goddess.
On Tuesday, Harryhausen died at London's Hammersmith Hospital, where he had been receiving treatment for about a week. He was 92.
Biographer and longtime friend Tony Dalton confirmed the special-effects titan's death, saying it was too soon to tell the exact cause. He described Harryhausen's passing as "very gentle and very quiet."
"Ray did so much and influenced so many people," Dalton said. He recalled his friend's "wonderfully funny, brilliant sense of humor" and love of Laurel and Hardy, adding that, "His creatures were extraordinary, and his imagination was boundless."

What if The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 was not the final, decisive battle for Robert Pattinson's Edward Cullen, Kristen Stewart's Bella Swan and Taylor Lautner's Jacob Black?
In a new clash of popular culture, the characters must face off against Daniel Radcliffe's Harry Potter and Jennifer Lawrence's Katniss Everdeen.
And then throw into the fray Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele from erotic bestseller Fifty Shades of Grey.
That's what Bluewater Productions has done with its latest project, Fifty Shades of the Twilight Games.

Cult sci-fi story Logan's Run has been turned into a feature film, a TV show and several comic book series including one at Marvel.
A new movie has been in the works for several years, and this month it transpired Ryan Gosling was no longer attached to the project.
Now the story - about a dystopian society where populations are controlled by enforced death (at age 21 in the novel, at 30 in the film and series) - is once more returning to the comics world.
Bluewater has today released the final two instalments of its Logan's Run: Aftermath series.
Publisher Darren G. Davis explained the long wait for the conclusion to the saga: "The problem after we left Diamond [Comic Distributors] was re-scheduling all the books - it was not as smooth a transition as we thought it would be. We appreciate all the fans of this series and apologise for any delay.

Oscar Wilde'S Dorian Gray is indeed proving to be ageless.
The character has made numerous screen appearances over the past century including, more recently, Stuart Townsend's portrayal in The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (2003), Josh Duhamel in The Picture of Dorian Gray (2005) and Ben Barnes in 2009's Dorian Gray.
Now he's returning to the literary world, but this time in comic book format for a reimagined adaptation by American publisher Bluewater Productions.
Following its success in converting classic titles to hit comics with Quartermain, Sherlock Holmes, Back to Mysterious Island and Juliet, Bluewater has given a modern makeover to Wilde's classic story about the literary world's original bad boy.
Dorian Gray issue 1 is now available. The adaptation was written by Darren G. Davis and Scott Davis (Wrath of the Titans, Blackbeard Legacy). Federico De Luca (John Saul's: God Project) illustrated both the interiors and covers for the title.

British band Mystery Jets have launched a graphic novel to accompany their new album Radlands.
The indie rockers recorded the album in Austin, Texas, and it was released on April 30.
They decided to extend the Americana-fuelled stories of the album through the medium of comic books and turned to Us publisher Bluewater Productions.
Lead singer Blaine Harrison says the new graphic novel, called The Ballad of Emmerson Lonestar, is a three-part modern western, telling the story of a "jaded, lovesick country singer and mystic" in search of a childhood sweetheart.
"In the same way that all fiction originates from fact, various twists and spikes in his story can be traced back to the experiences, places and characters that inspired the writing of Radlands, during our time spent living out in Austin," said Harrison.
"He does everything we wished we did or didn't do, and says everything we wish we had or hadn't said.

Oscar Wilde'S Dorian Gray has appeared on screen many times, including Stuart Townsend's portrayal in the 2003 comic book adaptation The League of Extraordinary Gentleman and the 2009 film starring Ben Barnes. Now the ageless character is resurfacing in the realm of comics.
Following the sell-out success of its titles centring on Quartermain and Sherlock Holmes, the Us publisher Bluewater is once again turning to classic literature and will this summer launch two new series featuring Dorian Gray and Shakespeare's Juliet.
Juliet will be depicted as a young woman frozen in time by ancient magics and woken in a strange and modern world. As she struggles to reclaim who she once was, she must contend with over 500 years of cultural change.

Showing the power of Facebook and the fascination with how it all started, a new comic book biography of creator Mark Zuckerberg has sold out just days after its release.
Bluewater Productions says its title, Mark Zuckerberg: Creator of Facebook, will not be getting a reprint.
Instead, the publisher is adding "expanded story content, pin-ups and other illustrated extras" into a 48-page graphic novel edition.
"There was a lot of buzz regarding this particular title outside the traditional comic book buying demographic," said Darren G. Davis, president of Bluewater. "Facebook fans and Zuckerberg detractors have sought this title out, so I am hoping we earned a 'Like.'"
The comic traces the meteoric rise of the sometimes controversial internet visionary.
Bluewater says the story, written by freelance journalist Jerome Maida and illustrated by Sal Field, offers a more balanced portrait of Facebook's founder than the Oscar-nominated movie The Social Network.

A Stunning new teaser poster has been sent over to us for the upcoming Sinbad movie.
As I reported in January, Morningside Entertainment snapped up the rights to Bluewater Productions' graphic novel Sinbad: Rogue of Mars to adapt it into a feature film for release in 2012.
I recently spoke to screenwriter Paul J. Salamoff, who was hired to write the script for the film for a reported mid-six figures. You can read what he had to say here.
The stylish and otherworldly teaser poster is included in full below. Hopefully it really does indicate the potential visual richness and epic scope that the project offers.
The new fantasy film is intended to be the first of a trilogy and an updated sequel to the existing three movies, rather than a reboot.
In this fourth adventure, Sinbad and his crew find a magical urn and are transported to another planet...

Back in January we revealed that a new Sinbad movie was in development, with screenwriter Paul J. Salamoff tapped to write the script.
Sinbad: Rogue of Mars will be the first adventure for the legendary sailor in more than three decades and will be an continuation of the franchise rather than a reboot.
I had an exclusive opportunity to ask Salamoff about the project and how he hopes to recapture the charm and magic of the three previous films: The 7th Voyage of Sinbad (1958), The Golden Voyage of Sinbad (1973) and Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger (1977).
They are personal favourites and stand out as classics, not just within the Ray Harryhausen stop-motion monster genre, but within fantasy filmmaking as a whole.
During the interview, Salamoff gives updates on the script, whether there have been any discussions regarding a director or casting, and also talks about his own favourite films in the sci-fi/fantasy genre.

Greek mythology is popular in Hollywood at present, and so are legal dramas.
Bluewater Productions' cornerstone title 10th Muse handily combines both genres and, recognising its potential, Vanquish Motion Pictures has snapped up the rights to adapt it into a TV show.
The comic book, which has been running since 2001, centres on a young law intern imbued with the essence of the Greek goddess of justice.
Vmp head Jay Douglas, who will executive-produce the series with partner Nav Gupta, Marc Manus and Bluewater's Darren Davis, said: "We're going to sink our teeth into Darren's treasure chest of storylines and spin them into a show that kicks ass with all the mystery and action the fans would expect."
"I'm really excited to dive into this world that Davis has created. The characters and Emma's central dilemma are rich and interesting - I think they'll prove a fantastic engine for a long-running series.
