Patrick Wolf will score a new Noel Coward biopic.
B Good Picture Company's film based on the early life of Coward was announced at this year's Cannes Film Festival, and has Glee's Chris Colfer attached to star as the playwright.
"I am so thrilled for my first film soundtrack composition to be about Noel Coward's early life. We both grew up in the same parts of south west London, and began our journeys onto the stage and into writing at the same precocious age," Wolf said.
"The script, director, Noel Coward Estate and the cast attached combined are already in perfect synergy to make this something magical. It's an honour to be the next piece of such a legendary puzzle."
Provisionally titled Noel, the screenplay has been written by Martin Sherman and will be directed by Joe Stephenson, his second feature following his debut Chicken.

You wouldn't think it to look at him, but at 29 years of age, Patrick Wolf is practically a pop veteran. Ten years and five albums into his career, he's taking a glance back with acoustic re-recordings double-album project Sundark and Riverlight, which he showcases tonight (August 29) with an unplugged set in some pretty swanky surroundings. Wolf's string section opens up the show and he starts singing 'Ghost Song' offstage before sauntering on complete with cape and gold laurel wreath, setting the tone for the night ahead. At his best, Wolf is a vessel for melody, magic, theatre, a fair bit of ridiculousness and romanticism so heartfelt it can overwhelm. The classical sensibility of John Cale with the rock 'n' roll heart of Lou Reed. Tonight we get bucketloads of all of that. There's also a certain ramshackle charm which stops (more)...

The X Factor's poster diva is back doing what she does best. Big beats, big strings and even bigger vocals make 'Trouble' a welcome return for Leona Lewis - and the Childish Gambino feature is rather nice too. Lc Major Lazer ft. Amber: 'Get Free' (out now)
Knob-twiddling collective Major Lazer dropped the video for their latest track 'Get Free' in time for this year's Notting Hill Carnival. Fortunately, its bouncy, reggae-flecked beats also work perfectly for a post-party hangover. Watch the official clip below: Rc Patick Wolf: 'Overture' (out October 15)

Tilda Swinton is a pretty unconventional kind of movie star. The daughter of a Scottish Major-General and one-time classmate of Princess Diana, she got her start acting in experimental theater and at the Royal Shakespeare Company before going on to become a muse of British iconoclast Derek Jarman. Over time, she's featured in performance art (including sleeping in a glass box in the Serpentine Gallery in London for a week), worked with fashion designers, founded a traveling film festival in the Scottish Highlands, and even appeared on an album by pop eccentric Patrick Wolf. Not exactly Julia Roberts, right? But all the same, she's become a household name, a favorite of auteurs like Jim Jarmusch, David Fincher and the Coen Brothers, and has cropped up in blockbusters from Danny Boyle's "The Beach" to the "Chronicles of Narnia" series. And most importantly, she's one of our finest actors, winning an...

I can't fathom why Patrick Wolf isn't an international superstar," said rippinupthedisco, commenting on Alexis Petridis's four-star review of Lupercalia, Wolf's new album. "There really is no other artist to compare Patrick Wolf to and perhaps this is the reason why he has struggled to sell himself where 'who is safe' and 'what has gone before' dominate."
Alexis had pondered that very matter in his review. One reason he didn't offer was the experience suffered by Becks66. Perhaps because it's the kind of gig experience few of us are likely ever to suffer: "I've only seen him live once … and the evening was spoiled by the masses of drunk, coked-up public school brats in the crowd, all in ballgowns and dinner jackets, stamping on and pushing anyone around them and going on and on very loudly about how expensive all their shit was.

Happy New Year to you all, and congratulations on making it to another year, and even another decade, depending on how you want to count it.
Even more congratulations are in order, because singer-songwriter Patrick Wolf tweeted that he’d been upgraded by his boyfriend William Charles Pollock to fiancé status.
Meanwhile, Aslie Pitter, founder of one of the first gay football clubs in England is being recognized by the Queen herself with a Member of the British Empire (MBE) for his 20 years of work fighting homophobia in sport.

Patrick Wolf has apologised for a violent outburst during a concert in Koln, Germany. The 'Hard Times' star spat, swore and hurled his equipment around the stage after his set was cut short at the C/O pop event. Writing on his MySpace blog, the 26-year-old extended his apologies "to all involved" and claimed that the outburst was a result of "animal instinct" garnered from singing Shakira's new single 'She Wolf'. "I was throwing the stool and the microphone at a black hole part of the stage where no-one would get hurt but there would be a statement made," he said. "The spit did not land on anyone but was in general a display of, 'I don't (more)...

Disco-punk, Tilda Swinton and lack of cohesion highlight first half of double concept album
Patrick Wolf’s The Bachelor is the first half of a double concept album originally titled Battles. The reason for the split was Wolf’s desire to “not overload people with too much,” a concern borne out by the album’s already-overstuffed composition. The Bachelor is a concept album without much of a concept—unless you consider world-weary lassitude and boilerplate populist outrage to be coherent narrative material. Histrionic voiceovers courtesy of arthouse icon Tilda Swinton are the only unifying threads to this tale of vague discontent about the modern age’s woes.

Ever since Conor Oberst decided to become relatively tasteful and understated, the indie world has been short on wunderkind precocity and balls-to-the-wall wimpiness. Enter Patrick Wolf: pop architect, tortured young man, and one hell of a hormone salesman. The British songwriter-producer’s fourth full-length—released earlier this summer in England and purported to be half of a dual album, with the next half due next year—is titled The Bachelor, and its lyrics are as bitter and stark as its music is drenched in electro-acoustic butterscotch. As with 2007’s The Magic Potion, Wolf has ventured further from his dance-floor-slaying ...
