Matt James, the latest leading man on The Bachelor, isn't just making waves for being the first Black Bachelor in franchise history. He's also breaking a 13-year tradition of casting Bachelorette castoffs as the Bachelor, and in my opinion, it's one of the best moves the aging franchise could have made.
To get an idea of how unusual this is: Matt is the first Bachelor in over a decade who wasn't part of the franchise prior to being named the show's lead. The last Bachelor to do that was Matt Grant, the British businessman who starred on season 12 way back in 2008. The idea behind having former contestants become the new leads isn't terrible in theory, to be fair. By casting known personalities, the franchise is able to construct an ongoing story with recurring "characters," like some hybrid of a long-running soap opera and a reality competition show. Theoretically, it should...

Bachelor Nation got a surprise on Friday when Matt James was announced as the first black Bachelor. The news was met with mostly excitement and approval, and lots of “finallys” — and some concern too about that other show James was supposed to be on.
The 28-year-old was originally cast as a suitor on Clare Crawley‘s upcoming season of “The Bachelorette,” which was postponed before it started shooting due to Covid-19. So what does James’ new role mean for Crawley’s installment? Well, not that much outside of the obvious.
Here’s what you need to know now that we have both a Bachelorette and a Bachelor.
1. No, James will no longer be on “The Bachelorette”
This is self-explanatory, right? He’s the Bachelor now. He’s going to look for love himself on his own show, so he won’t try to get a rose from Crawley anymore. James...

Matt James was announced as the first black star of “The Bachelor” on Friday after weeks of renewed criticism from Rachel Lindsay about the franchise’s long-standing diversity problem, heightened by the global protests and Black Lives Matter movement over George Floyd‘s death. But James casting was not in response to her comments, according to ABC.
“It wasn’t a response to that. We could have made this announcement earlier or later,” Rob Mills, ABC’s head of alternative programming, told our sister site “Variety.” “Certainly no one is blind to what is happening in the world, so hopefully this announcement serves as a bit of optimism during a time that we can really use this. But I don’t want this to look like we’re patting ourselves on the back or taking a victory lap.”

Matt James has accepted the rose to become the first black Bachelor in franchise history. James, whose casting was announced Friday on “Good Morning America” after repeated calls from fans and alums for the franchise to fix its diversity problem, is now also the first Bachelor since Matt Grant in 2008 to not have competed on a prior season of “The Bachelorette.” But he’s not a complete newbie to Bachelor Nation.
Die-hard fans know him as the roommate and Bff of Tyler Cameron, who finished in second on Hannah Brown‘s season of “The Bachelorette” last year. James was announced as a suitor on Clare Crawley‘s postponed season of “The Bachelorette” in March, but that meet-cute with her and America will not happen now.
So until “The Bachelor” can (hopefully) premiere as planned in 2021, here are nine things to know about the first black Bachelor.

Matt James will headline Season 25 of “The Bachelor,” making him the first black Bachelor in franchise history.
ABC revealed the casting on Friday’s “Good Morning America” on the heels of increasing demands for the franchise to address its lack of diversity.
A 28-year-old real estate broker and community organizer, James was originally cast as a suitor on Clare Crawley‘s upcoming season of “The Bachelorette,” which was postponed in March before production started due to the coronavirus pandemic. But he was already a familiar face to Bachelor Nation as the roommate and Bff of last year’s “Bachelorette” runner-up Tyler Cameron, with whom he runs a charity, ABC Food Tours. Fans quickly came to James’ defense in April when Crawley seemingly subtweeted him, after which Chris Harrison said that he was still slated to appear on “The Bachelorette.” But now James is the first Bachelor since Matt Grant in...

12. Chris Soules
Our small town farm boy hero Chris Soules didn’t have a very dramatic season, all things considered, but he’s been rocked by scandal after his time on TV. In April 2017, Soules rear-ended a man on a tractor who later died. He was charged with leaving the scene of a fatal car crash, according to the Des Moines Register. The outlet reported in March that Soules was “appealing the Iowa Supreme Court’s recent decision not to consider the merits of the charge against him.”
11. Jesse Palmer
Back in Season 5, the early, early days of the long-standing franchise, Jesse’s season was billed as the “most dramatic ever!” Even though by now much more dramatic events have happened on “The Bachelor,” Jesse did at one point call out the wrong woman’s name at the Rose Ceremony and had his best friend’s wife posing as a contestant.

On March 25, 2002, ABC introduced to the world a show that took one man’s search for Ms. Right and, with the help of some alleged post-production trickery and the casting of some beyond wackadoo hopefuls, turned it into a reality-tv phenomenon which has since spawned multiple STDs spin-offs.
We’re of course talking about The Bachelor, which on this day marks its 15th anniversary.

"UnREAL" just premiered last Monday at 10 p.m. on Lifetime -- strategically timed for right after ABC aired the latest episode of "The Bachelorette." The addictive scripted show has yet to hit viewer numbers anywhere near "The Bachelor" franchise, but it's much more entertaining (and revealing). "UnREAL" was created by a former "Bachelor" producer, and even though it's not officially a takedown of what happens behind-the-scenes of the ABC franchise, it doesn't take much reading between the lines to see that's the meat of the show.
"UnREAL" follows "Everlasting" producer Rachel (Shiri Appleby) who returns to her soul-sucking job of manipulating desperate women to create great TV for her ruthless reality show boss. This particular season of "Everlasting" seems like a fictionalized version of "The Bachelor" Season 12, led by British what-am-i-doing-here hunk Matt Grant.

A Kentucky woman is vying to become ABC's first black "Bachelorette."
Dr. Misee Harris, a 28-year-old pediatric dentist and Tennessee native, is campaigning to become the first black bachelorette on the reality dating show, according to NBC's The Grio.
In June of last year, Harris was chosen to be a contestant on "The Bachelor" but decided to set her sights higher.
“I realized that being the bachelorette would give me a better opportunity to find love and a stronger platform for all of my creative dreams and charity work,” she told The Grio. “It also would allow me to inspire other black women and girls to dream big and know their worth.”

After much speculation, the 18th and final contestant on the upcoming season of " Bachelor Pad " has been revealed. ABC, the network airing the reality TV competition, withheld the identity of the last contestant, only revealing that it was a male who appeared on the current season of " The Bachelorette ." The blogosphere immediately assumed it was Bentley Williams , who toyed with Ashley Hebert 's heart not once, but twice, this season. But the blogs are wrong. The final "Bachelor Pad" contestant is Ames Brown , the likable portfolio manager who was eliminated after Monday's hometown dates. Brown joins fellow "Bachelorette" Season 7 contestants William Holman and Blake Julian . Other notable "Bachelor" and "Bachelorette" alumni who will compete are Jake Pavelka , Vienna Girardi , and Justin "Rated-r" Rego . Check out photos of the contestants below and be sure to check out the three-hour premiere of "Bachelor Pad" August 8th on ABC. Below is the complete cast list.

Like a hangover after a wild night out, you knew the "Bachelor Pad" was coming. Check out all their photos, below. There is one yet-to-be-named male contestant, which many suspect is "Bachelorette" bad guy Bentley Williams . Williams withdrew from the show after saying he wasn't interested in Hebert, only to come back in Hong Kong and tell her the same thing. Both Lamas, 24, and Richie took to Twitter on Monday to confirm the nuptials, posting identical messages: "I am more than happy to confirm last night I got married to an amazing person and we are extremely excited to share our lives together.

From a margarita machine in the house to which "Bachelor" required $20,000 of dental work -- the "20/20" special, "Inside The Bachelor: The Stories Behind the Rose," revealed surprising secrets about the hit ABC reality franchise, including, do the couples really get intimate on the show? A show producer divulged that bachelor Matt Grant underwent $20,000 of dental work before making his debut on the show, while it was also revealed on the program that there is a margarita machine on the premises of the house where contestants live during filming. And when it comes to intimacy, "Bachelor" producer Mike Fleiss said that the "average guy has s** with three women throughout the course of the show." The special amicably reunited Brad Womack and the woman he jilted, Deanna Pappas. Womack angered fans by not choosing either of the final two women when he was "The Bachelor," but Pappas went on to...

Former Bachelor star Matt Grant has predicted that Jake Pavelka and Vienna Girardi will not last. Pavelka proposed to Girardi during the recent season finale of The Bachelor, but Grant told Radar Online that he is sceptical of their chances. "I really can't see it lasting," he admitted. Grant explained that it is easy to get caught up in the romance of the show, adding: "If you realise you've ballsed up and made the wrong decision just come straight out and admit it. "Jake's not going to know for another couple of months if he has (more)...

Back in 2008, ABC's The Bachelor decided to import a stud from overseas to headline the franchise's twelfth iteration, The Bachelor: London Calling. Matt Grant was textbook handsome with capped teeth, a set of abs hard enough to grind roses into potpourri, a dreamy career title ("financier") and even better, an adorable British accent. Perfect picnic dates came and went, and then in a shocking twist, Grant sucker-punched his adoring female fan base by proposing to Shayne Lamas, the then-22-year-old "actress" and daughter of Lorenzo Lamas, instead of pharmaceutical-rep-next-door Chelsea. Within weeks, the couple broke up after allegations that Shayne stepped out on her Brit Bachelor and Grant was never to be heard from again. That is, until Radar tracked him down and paid him for some shocking confessions about the producer manipulations, teeth bleaching and binge drinking that went on inside the Bachelor mansion.

As BuddyTV reported previously, Matt Grant, the English financer who starred on The Bachelor: London Calling, has a new reality series called Pimp My Bride, which he describes as an "organic follow-up to The Bachelor." However, there seems to be some kind of commotion after Warner Brothers' Warner Horizon, which will reportedly serve as his production partner for his new show, denied being involved in the project.

Former Bachelor star Matt Grant has reportedly landed his own show. According to Us Weekly, the reality star is working on a wedding-themed programme called Pimp My Bride, which he devised following his stint on the ABC romance competition. "It's an organic follow-up to The Bachelor. It's about the groom being in control of the wedding," he explained. Matt Grant from "The Bachelor" fame is coming back to television through a new reality show titled "Pimp My Bride". The contestant of "Bachelor" season 12 confirmed to Us Magazine on Saturday, January 23 that the new show is "an organic follow-up to the Bachelor."
For one thing, the show is a project that the British financier wrote himself after his stint as bachelor ended in 2008. "It's about the groom being in control of the wedding," he said, indicating that he won't be in front of the camera. The show is picked up by Warner Bros but there is no network or premiere date yet.
Additionally, Grant is proposed to join the all-star version of "The Bachelor" called "The Bachelor Pad" which will put all the previous contestants under one roof. "They've asked me to possibly do this Bachelor Pad show," he said. "It's like Big Brother Bachelor with all the Bachelors in a house.

Matt Grant was the star of the 12th season of The Bachelor (now in its 14th). He was the British dude. He got engaged to Shayne Lamas. That didn't last. He is producing a new reality show, though, and it is called Pimp My Bride.
We think this is all actually true.
"[It's] an organic follow-up to The Bachelor," Matt Grant told Us Weekly about his new show, adding that he first wrote the series after finishing The Bachelor in 2008.
"It's bascially about the groom being in control of the wedding."
Matt Grant is returning to reality TV. Time to celebrate!
Guess The Bachelor stars won't be on it, then. That show has never produced a successful wedding, although Jason Mesnick and Molly Malaney are angling to be the first.
Sorry to say, we don't see it happening this season, either. No offense, Vienna Girardi, but you just don't strike a...

Matt Grant, the English financer who starred on The Bachelor: London Calling, will reportedly appear on a new reality series. Grant claims that he already started developing the show Pimp My Bride, which he describes to Us Weekly as an "organic follow-up to The Bachelor."...

We question whether Grant realizes the implications of such a name, but thankfully, the title is not literal.

Remember Matt Grant for The Bachelor? Well he's back and this time partnering with BuddyTV and Fantasy World for an exciting, and very addicting, Fantasy Football league competition that can result in flying you to Hollywood.
If you win Matt Grant's league he will fly you to Hollywood, you'll live like a celebrity, hang out at Hollywood hot spots with other celebrities and you'll stay in a great hotel. But wait, I'm not done! You'll also get to go to a VIP Hollywood or sporting event. ...

I caught an episode of E!'s new reality show, Leave It To Lamas, the other night. All I could think was, 'Does anyone really care about these people?' Maybe that's the point. We don't care, and thus don't mind watching them all implode.
I'm betting that a lot of people have never even heard of the Lamas family. I remember Lorenzo from Falcon Crest; now he looks like a washed-up porn star. His daughter, Shayne, was recently proposed to by Matt Grant on The Bachelor: London Calling (the engagement is off -- I'm guessing it was all done for publicity for this show).

E! is looking to mine some Lamas drama with its new reality show Leave It To Lamas. The show follows the high-strung lifestyle of Shayne Lamas, who won The Bachelor: London Calling in 2008, and with it, Brit-hunk Matt Grant's hand in marriage. That made-for-tv romance lasted about two months before the couple split. As she notes in the Oct. 11 (11p.m. Et) premiere: “That one didn’t last.” Shayne shockingly doesn’t seem interested in a rebound boy toy — and on a more (potentially) wholesome note, the debut episode revolves around her efforts to reconnect her brother Aj with their father,...

Move over Kardashians, there's a new reality TV family in town!
It's been some time since we last saw Shayne Lamas, winner of The Bachelor: London Calling who was previously engaged to Matt Grant. She may not have gotten the happy ending she had hoped for (the couple broke up last year amidst a scandal that Grant allegedly wanted to marry Lamas for a green card and a rumor that Shayne had cheated on him), but that doesn't mean she'll be mourning her broken heart all year long. Actually, it already looks like she's recovered now that she's starring in her own reality series on the E! network.

Shayne Lamas won Matt Grant's heart in the 12th season of "The Bachelor," and she says she still watches the show from time to time. Now, she talks to Et about the whole Jason Mesnick/Melissa Rycroft public breakup and her new reality series with "The Bachelor"'s exec producer Mike Fleiss. "I would have died," she tells "The Insider". "I would have slapped him or something. Honestly, I would have been so pissed. That is out of a crazy movie. I can't believe that was real." Shayne and Matt broke up less than a year after they fell in love, but they still keep in touch. "We talk every once in a while to catch up and see how we're doing, but we're acquaintances," she says. "I think if we had met outside of 'The Bachelor,' we would have had more of a chance because there...

A former Bachelor star has a warning for potential contestants looking for love on the long-running ABC dating show. Matt Grant, the leading man on season 12 of The Bachelor, says the show's potential for making a successful match is pretty low. "There's always the possibility [of finding true love on the show], but I think the chances are slim," Grant told us this weekend at the 23rd Genesis Awards in Beverly Hills. "It's hard enough finding a good girlfriend in reality, let alone the nonreality of reality TV." As for America's most hated Bachelor Jason Mesnick... Grant actually praised the single father for "having the balls to admit...
