One, two, three, four, tell me that you love me more

Since the debut of the iPod in the early 2000s, Apple has been a singular driving force in the music industry. Most of that power stemmed from Steve Jobs’ pocket-sized music player and its attendant iTunes Store, a two-handed assault on The Way We Buy Music that made things more convenient, but significantly lowered the margins on The Way We Make Money On Music.

Michel Gondry has certainly proven he can inventively cut visuals to music, directing eye-popping videos for artists like Bjork, Chemical Brothers, Beck, Kanye West, White Stripes, and more. But he has a little musical itch to scratch himself? Coming from out of nowhere, the filmmaker has just dropped a funky new single. Read More: Watch The First International Trailer For Michel Gondry's 'Microbe And Gasoline' Featuring Yael Naim (who launched into fame after Apple used her track "New Soul" in their campaign for MacBook Air) and rapper/beatboxer Spleen on vocals, "Beautiful" is otherwise completely written and performed by Gondry, and rides a prominent retro funk vibe. In an interview with Metro last year, Spleen said there was an album in the works, but no word if that's still forthcoming. Give the track a spin below, along with a remix version. You'll have to sign into Deezer to hear the whole thing.

Everyone knows how close Kendall Jenner is to big sis Khloé Kardashian, but recently the two took their sisterly love to a new level by posting a cute video of their affectionate reunion on both of their respective Instagram accounts! The black and white clip is set to Yael Naim's "New Soul" and features an excited Kendall waiting outside Khloé's door. As soon as Khloé answers, Kendall jumps into her sister's arms and the two twirl around in a cute little embrace that is somewhere halfway between a hug and an attack. Kendall posted the video on her Instagram account with the headline "knock knock sister @khloekardashian," while Khloé's caption read "I missed my...

October is the nuttiest movie month of the year, if only because a parade of awards bait usually butts up against straggling action movies not quite big enough for summer and a series of gruesome horror movies. It's a delightful collision of styles that always makes for an eclectic (if sometimes schizophrenic) trip to the local cinema. This week features a handful of big-name releases, including the race horse biopic "Secretariat," the romantic comedy that centers around the horrible death of new parents "Life as We Know It," the kooky comedy "It's Kind of a Funny Story," the sharp fallen economy documentary "Inside Job" and the acting tour-de-force "Stone." But if you want to find the MTV Newsroom crew sitting in the dark this weekend, you'll have to buy a ticket to see Wes Craven's new frightfest "My Soul to Take." It's creepy, kooky, mysterious, spooky and altogether ooky,...

Tuesday night's (March 9) "American Idol" began with an intense roll call that had each girl peeling off one by one as Ryan Seacrest announced her name. Is this "American Idol" or a video catalog for mail-order brides?
"Idol" wasted no time to get to the eight performances so why should I? Let's go!
Katie Stevens
Song: "Breakaway" by Kelly Clarkson
Verdict: Walk Away
Katie took the judges' advice and picked a song that young people listen to. Unfortunately, she didn't sing it well. Flat and behind the beat — like "From Justin to Kelly," it just didn't work. Katie's another one who would have been better off waiting until she was 21 before trying out for "Idol." But even after the judges slammed her for lacking life experience to pull off the soaring ballad, Stevens attempted to argue her way into the Top 12. "But the song mentions coming from a small town,...

Call of the search party! Blow out the candles! Crystal Bowersox (aka The Savior of Season Nine aka The Best Idol Contestant Who Ever Graced The Stage aka The Reason God Created Harmonicas) is still on "American Idol!"
I don't intend for my hyperbole to make light of Crystal's serious hospitalization. But in hindsight, knowing that our girl is a tough cookie who's here to stay, our collective overreaction is kind of hilarious, don't you think?
But how did Crystal Bowersox do? Let's take a look at her — and her competitors' — performance. This ... is "American Idol" recap!
Crystal Bowersox
Song: "As Long as I Can See the Light" by Creedence Clearwater Revival
Verdict: A Healthy Return to Her Throne

We all may be able to sing along with "Plop, plop, fizz, fizz..'' and "If I had an Oscar Mayer weiner ...," but as last Wednesday's episode of Fox's "Glee" demonstrated, you don't need an original jingle to use music in a TV ad -- an existing song will do just fine.
In "Mattress," the exuberant cast performed a choreographed group cover version of Van Halen's "Jump" for a local TV spot. But when ad agencies look to use familiar music, they often go with the original artist.
Car companies often go with rock and roll to appeal to the male audience, such as Jaguar making use of Sting's "Desert Rose," Cadillac trying to revamp its image with Led Zeppelin's "Rock and Roll," and Dodge pushing trucks with help from Aerosmith's "Just Push Play."
Hip-hop is in there, too, as with this hamster-iffic commercial for Kia's Soul...

Yesterday began as a normal day for LiliAna Rose. She woke up and came to work at MTV headquarters in New York as a member of the integrated marketing team. But then she checked her RSS feed and saw something she was not expecting: Her own name.
When she's not working at MTV, Rose is nurturing her career as a singer-songwriter, and yesterday her song "Walk Across the Ocean" was featured on the official site of gossip writer/music label boss Perez Hilton. "This is so pretty!" the blogger wrote. "If you like Cat Power, Yael Naim or Joan Baez, then you will love this!"
"I sent an e-mail to Perez a week ago. He wrote back almost instantly, and he said 'I really love this song, send me more.' So I sent him some more," Rose told MTV News. "He wrote back 'Great stuff, I really love it.

“So You Think You Can Dance” is the best reality competition show ever. Sure, I’m touted as MTV News’ “American Idol” expert, and sure, I get paid to do “Idol in 60 Seconds” recaps every season, but deep down inside, I just wanna “Dance.”
I’m not going to rehash the reasons why I think “Sytycd” is a superior show to “AI” — especially since my old colleague Lindsey Thomas did it perfectly last summer. Instead, I’m here to beg all of you to start watching and make this season the highest rated yet. I have no stock in the show. Hell, it’s on a rival network. I just think the world will be a better place if, instead of gossiping about Miley and Jason’s breakup, we discussed the finer points of Napoleon and Tabitha’s latest lyrical hip-hop routine.
Before you start getting all, “But I don’t know anything about dance,...
