The video game community’s latest time-suck and bathroom companion, Vampire Survivors, is getting an animated series adaptation. Story Kitchen is teaming up with the game’s developer, Luca Galante, to adapt the gothic horror game into a top-tier episodic adventure! Sharpen your stakes, put on your garlic necklace, and get ready to run from Death for a new way to enjoy the “reverse bullet hell” experience.
Anyone can play Vampire Survivors. The game revolves around simple mechanics where the player controls a hero character while avoiding armies of enemies. You don’t have to press any buttons (except what controls your character’s movement), as all your attacks are auto-triggered. As enemies close in, your character uses projectiles, spells, familiars, and power-ups to survive the oncoming hordes. I’ve lost countless hours to Vampire Survivors since its Steam release last year before moving onto the mobile and Xbox Series X versions.

Another one of those “didn’t see this coming” items. Developer poncle’s hit roguelike Vampire Survivors is the latest video game to get a television adaptation. Los Angeles-based Story Kitchen is teaming up with poncle founder Luca Galante to adapt Vampire Survivors into a “premium, animated television series.”
Per Deadline, the project is now in search of a writer, and is being shopped around to animated TV networks.
“The most important thing in Vampire Survivors is the story, so it’s a dream come true to see what started as a little indie game I made on my weekends come to life as an animated TV show!,” says Galante. “It’s also great to be partnering up with such experienced and talented people to make the show. I do wonder if they’ve realized that there isn’t a single vampire in Vampire Survivors, though.”

Earlier in the year, it was announced that Sega was looking to get a film adaptation made based on their classic beat-’em-up series Streets of Rage. Today, Lionsgate has announced that they’ve acquired the rights for the film, which is being written and produced by Derek Kolstad.
Per IGN, in addition to Lionsgate’s involvement, Sega’s Toru Nakahara and dj2 Entertainment’s Dmitri M. Johnson, Timothy I. Stevenson and Dan Jevons will produce the Streets of Rage film alongside Kolstad. Nakahara is no stranger to producing adaptations of Sega’s franchises, having produced the first two Sonic the Hedgehog movies. He’ll also be overseeing the project for Sega, alongside Shuji Utsumi.
Kolstad stated that working on the film fulfils a childhood dream. “When Dmitri first mentioned the idea of cracking a Streets of Rage movie, I was so immediately freaking in. And to play with Sega?...

John Wick won’t be the only guy beating ’em up at Lionsgate, as the studio has picked up the rights to the classic Sega video game adaptation “Streets of Rage” from the writer of “John Wick,” Derek Kolstad.
Kolstad is writing the script to the previously announced “Streets of Rage” film based on the Sega video game franchise, which are vintage side-scrolling “beat ’em up” games that became hugely popular in the ’90s. And boy, was the game a product of the ’90s — playable character Eddie “Skate” Hunter whooped the endless baddies while wearing a pair of rollerblades.
Kolstad is producing the film alongside Sega’s Toru Nakahara, dj2 Entertainment’s Dmitri M. Johnson, Timothy I. Stevenson, and Dan Jevons. Escape Artists’ Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, and Tony Shaw are also producing. Johnson of dj2 is best known for producing the “Sonic” films alongside Sega. Johnson has a number...

“Streets of Rage,” a popular beat ’em up video game that first hit the scene in the 1990s, is getting the big screen treatment. Lionsgate has landed the motion picture rights to the Sega game and has enlisted Derek Kolstad, no stranger to the world of broken bones and crushed ribs from his stint writing “John Wick” and its sequels. He will write the film and produce it, apparently fulfilling a childhood ambition (mine was to be James Bond).
“When Dmitri first mentioned the idea of cracking a ‘Streets of Rage’ movie, I was so immediately freaking in,” Kolstad said in a statement. “And to play with Sega? The 10-year-old me is still grinning.”
Kolstad’s pre-teen self may be in hog heaven, but the fact remains that most video game adaptations make for awful movies. For every “Sonic the Hedgehog,” there’s an “Assassin’s Creed” or “Warcraft.” Lionsgate seems undaunted by those odds.

From humble beginnings to the big screen, Indie Studio Compulsion Games' We Happy Few is getting a film adaptation! Come inside for more details!
For those of you who haven't played Compulsion Games' We Happy Few, the video game is about an isolated English town in an alternate 1960s. The residents of this town are forced to take "happy pills", aka "Joy", to keep them seeing the world as it truly is. In the game, we follow the one person who has decided to stop taking his Joy and discover the mysteries within this violent, creepy town.
If that doesn't sound like the premise for a feature film, I don't know what does. Luckily, Gold Circle Films and dj2 Entertainment tend to agree and have bought the rights to the IP, in order to adapt this story for the big screen!

The videogame Sleeping Dogs is heading to cinema screens, with Donnie Yen on board...
The chances of getting a sequel to the 2012 cult classic open-world crime videogame Sleeping Dogs just get slimmer with each passing year. But for fans of the game, there's something of an olive branch, as we get word that Donnie Yen is going to be starring in a film adaptation of Sleeping Dogs.
This report comes to us courtesy of Deadline, who states that producer Neal Moritz (of the Fast & Furious franchise and 21 Jump Street fame) is putting together a film adaptation of Square Enix's game. Donnie Yen, of course, is the movie martial arts master who needs no introduction.
Yen's cinematic martial arts skills are sure to come into play at some point in the Sleeping Dogs film. While there are no concrete details concerning the movie's plot, including whether or not...

The pair soon find themselves investigating the mysterious disappearance of fellow student Rachel Amber, which uncovers a dark side to life in their town, Arcadia Bay.”
The project is being developed and produced by Dmitri Johnson and Dan Jevons of dj2 Entertainment. They previously worked on an animated series called Skulls of the Shogun for Legendary-owned Nerdist Industries, as well as the upcoming film adaptation of Sonic the Hedgehog for Sony Pictures.

Arcadia Bay is headed to the small-screen.
Days after we learned of a live-action Detective Pikachu movie setting up shop at the studio – buoyed by the landmark success of Pokemon Go – The Hollywood Reporter reveals that Legendary is partnering with Square Enix to bring about a Life is Strange TV series.
Said to hew close to Dontnod’s hit five-part series, which followed the curious mind of Max Caulfield and her eerie ability to manipulate time, it’s understood Dmitri Johnson and Dan Jevons of dj2 Entertainment will nurture the adaptation.
First released in January of last year, Life is Strange is a nostalgic, heartfelt tale of two best friends caught up in a dark mystery that threatens to bring ruination to the sun-kissed plains of Arcadia Bay. Its success was recognized in critical circles, too, with Dontnod’s adventure title scoring multiple Game of the Year nominations, not to...

Now, THR is reporting that Legendary and video game developer Square Enix are joining forces to bring the video game Life Is Strange to the big screen. The project will also be developed and produced in conjunction with Dmitri Johnson and Dan Jevons of dj2 Entertainment. The latter man is currently responsible for adapting Sonic The Hedgehog to...
