In a candid interview with Billboard, Kelley — who is about 15 months sober — admitted he’s feeling better than he expected.
“It’s led me a lot closer to my spirituality.”
“I never thought I would actually enjoy it, you know?” he said. “I thought, ‘Ok, I’m gonna do this for my family, I’m gonna do this for my band, I’m gonna do this for myself.’ But I think it’s the energy you get from not having crazy nights and all of those different things.”
His recovery journey has also brought him to some epiphanies about himself.

Lady A‘s Charles Kelley embarked on a “journey to sobriety” nearly five months ago. On Friday, the 41-year-old singer released a confessional track dubbed “As Far As You Could”, which details his struggle with addiction and his ongoing recovery.
Kelley’s new track — described as “a goodbye letter to alcohol” — is a redemptive ballad he co-wrote following a “public decision to stop drinking and begin addiction treatment.” Kelley teased the track back around Thanksgiving when he posted an unfinished demo, but he’s now dropped the full track just days before Christmas.

Hillary Scott leads Lady A through a free-spirited romp in the country music trio’s new song “Like a Lady.” Opening with stacked vocals reminiscent of Styx’s own “Lady,” the track is presented as a celebration of female empowerment.
Scott co-wrote the song with four collaborators and propels “Like a Lady” with her unpretentious performance. “I feel like a lady/sippin’ on tequila with my Levi’s on/a lady, singin’ to the music playin’ all night long,” she sings over a thundering groove, peppered by fiddle. Despite the near-absence of on-camera masks during the 54th CMA Awards ceremony Wednesday, the Country Music Association maintains that it was “extremely diligent” in making sure that the indoor ceremony, performed before a live audience, was held in a safe manner.

A fraction of the usual number of attendees were in the audience, and they were seated at tables and banquettes that were spaced apart from each other throughout the indoor venue. When country trio Lady Antebellum announced a name change in mid-June amid national conversations about racism, it was meant to be a gesture of goodwill. Grammy-winning country group Lady Antebellum, newly named Lady A, are one of the latest examples of celebrities and brands hoping to get ahead of any potential backlash in the wake of Black Lives Matter. The nationwide movement has swirled up a purge of firings in the entertainment industry, with four Vanderpump Rules stars, Lana Del Rey, and Glee's Lea Michele all facing serious scrutiny for racially insensitive remarks and incidents. In order to avoid imminent cancellation, A-listers and big businesses alike have announced statements in support of the protests, but some of these preemptive apologies, including Lady A's extremely overdue rebranding, resonate as flat and performative.
The trio, made up of Hillary Scott, Charles Kelley, and Dave Haywood, announced on June 11 that "antebellum," a racially charged term that refers to the pre-Civil War era, will be dropped from their name. In a lengthy social...

The multiple-Grammy\-winning country music band Lady Antebellum has changed its name to Lady A due to the word antebellum’s association with slavery.
“When we set out together almost 14 years ago, we named our band after the southern ‘antebellum’ style home where we took our first photos,” the trio of Hillary Scott, Charles Kelley and Dave Haywood said in a statement shared on social media today (see it below). “As musicians, it reminded us of all the music born in the south that influenced us…Southern Rock, Blues, R&b, Gospel and of course Country.
“But we are regretful and embarrassed to say that we did not take into account the associations that weigh down this word referring to the period of history before The Civil War, which includes slavery. We are deeply sorry for the hurt this has caused and for anyone who has felt unsafe, unseen or unvalued.

Brett Young teams up with Lady Antebellum singer Charles Kelley in a new duet recording of the hit “Here Tonight.” The song, which Kelley helped write, was the lead single from Young’s second album Ticket to L.A. and reached Number One on the Country Airplay chart.
Young’s original was a mid-tempo, full-band anthem that fit right in his wheelhouse as country’s current purveyor of dewy-eyed romance. In this new version, it’s stripped to basics: acoustic guitar, piano, cello and a pair of voices. Each performer gets to take a verse,...

Headlining sets by Chris Stapleton, Lady Antebellum and Keith Urban, plus a vast range of impressive up-and-coming talent, highlighted the seventh annual Country to Country (C2C), Europe’s biggest country music festival, this weekend.
Held over three days, the concerts took place at the 3Arena Dublin, Ireland; Sse Hydro in Glasgow, Scotland; and at London’s O2 Arena, a packed venue that underscored the strong and still growing transatlantic appetite for country music. Like last year, Rolling Stone was in attendance for the London weekend of C2C. Here...

When Lady Antebellum landed their Las Vegas residency gig a few months ago, they turned to current Vegas headliner Kix Brooks for advice.
“He said to bring a lot of humidifiers,” the trio’s Charley Kelley said on Saturday before the group took the stage on the second night of their Our Kind of Vegas show at the Palms Casino Resort. “When they say that you have to have humidifiers and drink a lot of water, they are not lying.”

Lady Antebellum made a return visit to Late Night With Seth Meyers on Wednesday, performing the sorrowful “Hurt” from their 2017 album Heart Break.
Like the album’s title track, singer Hillary Scott takes the lead on “Hurt,” supported as usual by her bandmates Charles Kelly and Dave Haywood. She emphasizes vulnerability with her performance on Late Night, conveying the anguish of a woman who feels trapped under someone else’s powerful spell. “If you pull me close just to disappear / The chances are I’d wait for you a thousand years,...

Before the puck dropped at Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs series between the Nashville Predators and Winnipeg Jets, Lady Antebellum took the ice at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville to sing the National Anthem. All was going well…until they hit a minor speed bump.
The Grammy Award-winning country trio of Charles Kelley, Hillary Scott, and Dave Haywood were smoothly singing through their flawless harmonies, but when it came to the words “O’er the ramparts we watched,” things started to get a little wonky — as seen in the video above.
The forgiving crowd started to help them out with the words and the three recovered nicely, continuing to give their Lady Antebellum brand of musicality. They later took to Twitter for an apologetic moment of humility, saying “Welp. We’re human too y’all We’re still rooting for ya Preds!!! #smashville”

Lady Antebellum learned a hard lesson Saturday night ... the National Anthem is impossible to sing. Charles Kelley, Hillary Scott and Dave Haywood were front and center at the playoff game between the Nashville Predators and Winnipeg Jets at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, when they sang the song famously messed up by so many. They did not disappoint. Each sings a different verse during the pesky part of the tune, and the players try hard --...

Hillary Scott‘s daughter, Eisele Kaye, can barely wait to meet her little sisters!
The Lady Antebellum band member, 31, shared a too-cute photo on Instagram Wednesday of her 4½-year-old sweetly kissing her mom’s baby bump. “Loving on her little sisters before school this morning,” said Scott, who is expecting twin girls with husband Chris Tyrrell in February.
While Eisele does not seem fazed by the impending arrival, her mom is not quite ready for her first-born to lose her only child status.
“These last few weeks with Eisele are more precious than I can truly express,” the second-time mother-to-be continued.
