"Paralyzed by his fear of dying, Miles Grissom (Clark Freeman) offers a cash reward to the first person who can show him a ghost, an angel, a demon, or anything to prove the existence of an afterlife. He narrows responses down to three candidates - a scientist, a medium, and a worldly entrepreneur. And along with his fiercely protective mother (Annette O'Toole), he embarks on an adventure that will spiral into an unthinkable nightmare.

Phobia-ridden and driven by a sense of existential dread a man places an ad in the newspaper: prove the existence of life after death, win thirty thousand dollars. Of the many replies he receives, Miles narrows the applicants down to just three – a scientist, a medium and an entrepreneur.
First and foremost, We Go On is a road movie; a mother and her son, seeking answers. Like a downbeat Mulder and Scully, the sceptic (or flat-out unbeliever) and the agnostic, scrabbling for hope in a world which often terrifies the latter. Such a concept would be nothing without a strong pair of leads, and this it has in spades with Clark Freeman and the always wonderful Annette O’ Toole.

The isolation and helplessness some people felt during the prime days of Covid lockdown is utilized to good effect in “The Harbinger.” Andy Mitton’s second solo feature (following two co-directed with Jesse Holland) is a spooky tale in which vulnerable individuals find themselves prey to a malevolent spirit that worms into their dreams, dislodging them from grounding reality.

Disturbing, recurrent cries from the NYC apartment of Mavis (Ellen Davis) have gotten complaints from neighbors, particularly a next-door “Karen” and belligerent anti-masker (Stephanie Roth Haberle). Stricken by a paralysing fear of death and uncertainty about what lies beyond, sad-sack Miles (Clark Freeman) places an advert in the newspaper offering a $30,000 reward for anyone who can conclusively prove to him that there’s an afterlife. With his firebrand mother Charlotte (Annette O’Toole) as his sidekick, the duo set off to try and answer the big question once and for all.

Seeking proof of life after death, a man puts out a newspaper ad with a $30,000 reward for anyone who can show him that the afterlife truly exists in We Go On. A horror film with a lot on its mind, We Go On is now available to watch on the streaming service Shudder, and we recently caught up with the film's directors, Jesse Holland and Andy Mitton, for our latest Q&A feature.
Thanks for taking the time to answer some questions for us. What inspired you to create We Go On?
Jesse Holland: What inspired us was the universality of the question, what happens after you die? It’s a question everyone asks. We wanted to have a protagonist that anyone could identify with and he’s asking a universal question.
Andy Mitton: The premise of putting an ad out to see if anyone can prove the afterlife was hooky and straightforward,...

In their chilling sophmore feature, We Go On, filmmakers Jesse Holland and Andy Mitton explore life's biggest question through the eyes of a supernatural thriller. In the film, a young man in the throws of an existential crisis publishes an ad promising thousands of dollars to anyone who can confim life after death. What follows is a compelling journey into death and redemption. The film was a hit on the festival circuit, resulting in a plum deal from AMC's horror streaming service Shudder, which released the film exclusively this week. We caught up with the filmmakers to talk festivals, how they landed the deal and whether they're skeptics or believers. ScreenAnarchy: I want to ask about your 2016 festival run. You won "Best Feature"...

Jo Satana is finalizing his reviews from films exhibiting at the 2016 Fantasia International Film Festival!
We Go On is a tense supernatural thriller that brought the chills during a particularly hot and muggy week of Fantasia 2016. What stuck with me as well, aside from my wet skin flaps, was how much the title mirrored the mind state I was in at the time: late with reviews, missing essential screenings, losing track of priorities and having to push back the festival marketing machine. All you can do really is soak it in, take it out on your family, and simply « go on »….
Directed by Andy Mitton and Jesse Holland, We Go On is an intimate study on the resolve it takes to let go and move forward. We all carry ghosts of the past with us, some of you even have them tattooed on your body, but how many of us...

Anthologies are all the rage now. It seems like not that long ago they were incredibly rare. Then there was Trick r’ Treat and V/H/S (and the upcoming V/H/S/2) and The ABCs of Death (which is also getting a sequel). Now cable is getting in on the action. Chiller will debut the original movie Chilling Visions: 5 Senses of Fear on Friday, May 31.
The short films are directed by some promising newcomers including Eric England (Madison County) and Jesse Holland and Andy Mitton (YellowBrickRoad). As per usual for anthologies the quality runs the gamut, but overall the entire endeavor is lacking in imagination. It only really comes to life in the home stretch. The first three entries are pretty lackluster.

Back in early 2011, horror fan-site juggernaut Bloody Disgusting took a stand for independent and foreign genre lore by partnering with The Collective and AMC Theaters, establishing distribution company Bloody Disgusting Selects. Their purpose? To hand-pick often glanced over horror gems which get lost in the mainstream remake shuffle, and grant those deemed worthy of proper theatrical and Video On Demand releases exposure.
As an avid follower and member of “The Infected” (the site’s online community), Bloody Disgusting Selects seemed like a gleaming beacon of hope in the world of inventive, creative, and one-of-a-kind horror experiences. Selected by site staffers and genre enthusiast super fans sharing a common love for skin crawling madness, I made it my mission not to skip a single feature. Now, with their first ten tales of terror rated and reviewed, I thought I’d touch upon Bloody Disgusting’s foray into film distribution and determine the company’s future.

I stalled a long time with this review. After watching co-directors Jesse Holland and Andy Mitton’s “YellowBrickRoad”, I didn’t know how I felt about it.
When I first watched it, as the film ended, I thought that it was a pretty original take on the legend of whole towns that disappear, and then I sat back and sort of admired how it was also a non-cinema verite version of The Blair Witch, which is something I’ve always kind of wanted to see.
Then it happened. The longer I waited the more I couldn’t tell how I felt about the movie. Was it too drawn out? Were the plot points too much to be believed? Was it too slick? Not slick enough? I’d go back and forth with it. For some reason or another, the more time I spent thinking about it,...

The Film:
As apart of the newly founded Bloody-Disgusting Selects label, an outfit seeking cool, niche horror films, and giving them the proper treatment for theater, VOD, and DVD play, YellowBrickRoad is an interesting, flawed excursion into the woods, with the Wizard of Oz reference not lost on viewers. What it lacks in a proper gut-punched that was needed badly, it makes up for in tone and mystery, and we always fear what we do not know.
70 years after a town in New Hampshire mysteriously had its residents found dead and some even disappearing all together, a research crew has meticulously planned an expedition to retrace their steps, as well as document this legend. Foregoing the “found footage” aspect that maybe some would have easily gone to, there’s plenty of unintentional nods to The Blair Witch Project scattered through, from tension to arguments, and even a first-person perspective, yet its audible not visual.

It started the summer as part of the Bloody Disgusting AMC Horrorfest, and if you were lucky enough to catch YellowBrickRoad in that brief theatrical run, you had the privilege of enjoying a rather effective horror film. If not, it's recently come to DVD and now you can enjoy the madness, as it slowly seeps into the brains of a group of explorers intent on discovering the lost secret of a legendary town, from the comfort of your own home. Directed by Andy Mitton and Jesse Holland, YellowBrickRoad stars Michael Laurino, Anessa Ramsey, Alex Draper, Cassidy Freeman (Smallville), Clark Freeman, Tara Giordano, Sam Elmore, Lee Wilkof, and Laura Heisler in a refreshing installment in the genre featured at Slamdance 2010, the Atlanta Film Festival 2010, Screamfest 2010, and that won Best Feature at the NYC Horror Film Festival. To help you savor this aforementioned, award-winning madness, JustPressPlay is giving away one copy of YellowBrickRoad on DVD.

It’s sad in this day and age when a movie receives critical acclaim simply because it is a return to character-driven storylines that rely more on atmosphere and mood than violence and gore. Guess what? Just because you spent more time developing your characters than you did your scares doesn’t mean you automatically get a golden review. Such is the case with directors Jesse Holland and Andy Mitton’s 2010 genre endeavor “YellowBrickRoad”, a film that takes its sweet time getting to the good stuff, only to fumble the chills at the very last second. Maybe I didn’t understand what Holland and Mitton were going for. Maybe the entire movie simply went over my slightly misshapen skull. Whatever the case may be, I didn’t like it, even if it did allow you to get to know the characters before dispatching them one by one. A boring movie...
