Based on Georgia Hunter’s novel, it follows a Jewish family scattered across Europe during World War II, their unwavering determination to survive and reunite echoing the struggles against hate we face today. Star Logan Lerman emphasizes the importance of sharing stories like this, especially in a world where history seems dangerously close to repeating itself. Halina (Joey King), shown. (Photo by: Vlad Cioplea/Hulu) Antisemitism is a disturbing reality, a persistent echo of some of history’s darkest moments. Hulu’s We Were the Lucky Ones brings the weight of the Holocaust to the screen, focusing on a fictional Jewish family. Their story, though imagined, draws power from the all-too-real experiences of those who survived. For star Joey King, the series has profound meaning. Tim Burton in episode 102 of Wednesday. Cr. Vlad Cioplea/Netflix © 2022 Tim Burton has been one of the most prolific directors for decades. Starting with his breakout hit in 1984 with the beloved Pee-wee’s Big Adventure, his other big hits include Batman, Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands, and Ed Wood. As many know, he has always had a love for animation, having produced admired animation films like The Nightmare Before Christmas and along with co-directing Corpse Bride. Even before hitting it big, Burton made animated shorts. What may surprise some is that before becoming a movie director, Burton worked as an animator at The Walt Disney Studios. In past interviews with us, Burton has revealed that, contrary to expectations, he did not enjoy working in animation at Walt Disney. Wednesday took Netflix viewers by storm last holiday season, and as the team behind the Addams Family-inspired series prepares to start production on Season 2, the streamer is apparently gearing up for the possibility of an Uncle Fester (Fred Armisen) spinoff. According to a report by Bloomberg, Netflix has started discussions about a spinoff series built around Armisen’s version of Uncle Fester, who made an appearance in Wednesday‘s first season. The idea has yet to get off the ground with a series order or greenlight unannounced, and Netflix would have to negotiate contracts and schedules in order to make it work. (Credit: Vlad Cioplea/Netflix) Ultimately, the choice to do a spinoff makes sense considering the success of Wednesday, which broke records on the platform. At the time of the show’s release in November 2022, Wednesday broke Stranger Things‘ record, pulling in 341.2 million hours viewed roughly a week after release,...

It’s not unusual for films to see a boost when they shift from PVOD rental to Est. But “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” (Sony), which had dropped off the top 10 charts after several weeks of rental success, came back as #1 on all three now that it’s available to buy at $19.99.
“Barbie” has surpassed the Marvel animated title as #1 for the summer, but the renewed interest in “Spider-Verse” is a good reminder of how strong the brand can be.
In another sign of how comic book movies elevate those associated with them, “Wonder Woman” star Gal Gadot’s Netflix action title “Heart of Stone” hit #1 right away at the streamer. It received a lot of review attention, mostly negative. Its value will be better determined depending on if it sustains a lengthy run high on their charts.

Netflix has a hit on its hands with Wednesday, the Tim Burton-produced show featuring the beloved Addams family member. The comedy-horror series has something for everyone, including razor-sharp humor, a love triangle, and supernatural drama. In addition to Wednesday, other charming characters have made waves with fans, notably the peppy Enid Sinclair, played by Emma Myers. The actor explains that plenty of unconventional preparation went into her portrayal, including a “werewolf boot camp.”

Wednesday (Jenna Ortega) first meets her roommate Enid when moving into her new school, Nevermore Academy. The cheerful and lively Enid seems the exact opposite of Wednesday. Although Wednesday doesn’t appear interested in establishing a friendship, the petite blonde is relentlessly chummy — and eventually, the two dissimilar teens form a tight bond.

And with a snap of Thing’s fingers, Netflix has renewed its Jenna Ortega-led Addams Family-inspired series Wednesday for Season 2. Following a record-breaking run on the streamer since its debut on November 23, 2022, Wednesday‘s renewal comes as no surprise as it became the platform’s number two most popular English TV series with 1.237 billion hours viewed within its first 28 days. Additional details about the upcoming chapter will be shared at a later time, but Netflix celebrated the renewal with a video announcement clip, above. (Credit: Vlad Cioplea/Netflix In an interview with Netflix’s Tudum, creators, showrunners, and executive producers Alfred Gough and Miles Millar said, “It’s been incredible to create a show that has connected with people across the world. Wednesday may not have announced a second season quite yet, but rest assured, should the fan-favorite return for more kooky fun, it will likely remain in place on Netflix. Despite a report by The Independent, which suggested the Addams Family-inspired spinoff Wednesday could move to Prime Video for a yet-to-be-announced potential second season, IndieWire is seemingly refuting the claim. Per the initial report, it was insinuated that due to a recent deal with Amazon, Wednesday could be subject to a platform change because of its MGM ties. “Initially, they wanted a flash mob, but I thought, no, there’s no way Wednesday would be cool with dancing and encouraging a bunch of people,” the 20-year-old star told Jimmy Fallon on Friday’s episode of “The Tonight Show”. “The director, Tim Burton, and I talked about it a little bit, and he said, ‘Yeah, let’s not do a circle. Taking on the role of siren Bianca Barclay in Netflix’s Wednesday was a “no-brainer” for Joy Sunday, a rising star who previously appeared in Netflix’s Dear White People, Freeform’s Good Trouble, and most recently, the MGM film Dog.
Following the show’s hit debut, Sunday reveled in the moment and all the care that went into crafting the popular character during a recent call with Deadline.
“When Bianca came into my life, I was honestly so happy to play her because, in a lot of ways, it was an opportunity to get to soften and to expand on a character like her,” she recalled while sitting in a New York cafe. “I was just elated to be able to put my own spin on it and to really provide a nuanced take on the mean girl, the strong girl. I feel lucky to have been able to play her.

Gwendoline Christie was given more than one “unbelievable opportunity” to work on Netflix’s new series “Wednesday”.
The actress recalled walking through a field when she received a text message from director Tim Burton who wanted to meet with her about the hit comedy-horror. She was later offered the role of Principal Larissa Weems and was even given the freedom to help design the character.
“[Burton] said, ‘You can do whatever you like with the character, feel free to make it whatever you want and we’ll keep talking about it,'” Christie told Entertainment Weekly. “And that was an unbelievable opportunity from this great cinematic master.”
Christie began to imagine who Weems- the leader of Nevermore Academy- might be as she worked alongside Burton and costume designer Colleen Atwood. The character is responsible for protecting a school full of outcasts, including the titular Wednesday Addams [Jenna Ortega].

A tale as old as time; a Catholic church representative must battle their inner demons to save the soul of a possessed child. Prey for the Devil attempts to retell this tired story with the gimmick of an aspiring female exorcist but never manages to pull together a narrative cohesive or scary enough to rise above a patchwork of familiar possession horror tropes.
It’s 2018. Demonic possession cases have become so prevalent that the Catholic Church has created schools with the sole purpose of teaching priests the Rite of Exorcism while nuns act as bedside nurses to the possessed. Sister Ann (Jacqueline Byers) finds herself drawn to the role of exorcist, even sneaking into exclusive male classes taught by Father Quinn (Colin Salmon), to the chagrin of her superior. Her persistent pursuit of exorcism studies and personal approach to nursing eventually puts her on the frontline of the battle to...

It is unfortunate that comparisons to Starship Troopers (1997) will plague the new science fiction film Voyagers, as the two films are indelibly dissimilar. While Paul Verhoeven’s film was an intentionally over-the-top examination of the dystopian worldview that the novel’s author, Robert A. Heinlein, saw as the inevitable outcome of human evolution, Voyagers is more of a slow-burn think piece that attempts to re-envision Lord of the Flies by William Golding as a sort of teen-centric adventure story that manages to remain engaging and somewhat entertaining throughout.
