The classic sitcom Bewitched ran for eight seasons and a total of 254 episodes, premiering on September 17, 1964 and wrapping up on March 25, 1972. A spin-off called Tabitha came and went in 1977, then Bewitched received a big screen reboot back in 2005… and in recent years, Sony has shown that they’re very eager to reboot the property again. Back in 2018, it was announced that Black-ish creator Kenya Barris and writer Yamara Taylor were working on a TV series reboot that would give the concept “an interracial twist”. That didn’t go anywhere. In 2021, it was reported that Terry Matalas (MacGyver) and Travis Fickett (12 Monkeys) had been hired to write the screenplay for a new Bewitched movie. That never made it into production… and apparently the idea has been abandoned, because now Deadline has learned that writer/producer Judalina Neira has signed an overall deal with Sony Pictures Television that’s focused on developing...

Since its launch in 2019, a pillar of Disney+ has been revisiting and building upon stories from across the Walt Disney Company's brands. Whether that's traveling deeper into a galaxy far, far away with new "Star Wars" shows, uncovering uncharted corners of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, or catching up with fan-favorite characters from beloved shows and movies like "The Santa Clause," "Night at the Museum," or "Enchanted," the House of Mouse's streaming platform continues to offer interesting and exciting ways to revitalize their biggest franchises. Although, the service also creates an avenue to revitalize lesser-known or forgotten properties from Disney's past. With their 100th anniversary just around the corner, that's likely to happen a lot more in 2023. But even before the new year is upon us, the company has announced that they're taking another trip back to Witch Mountain.

Disney+ has greenlit a pilot for Witch Mountain and has tapped Bryce Dallas Howard (the Jurassic World films) to star. Isabel Gravitt (The Watcher), Levi Miller (Streamline), Bianca “b” Norwood (We Crashed), and Jackson Kelly (Straight Man) have also joined the pilot’s cast.
Disney+ is moving forward on what they’re labeling a “modern reinvention” of the Witch Mountain film franchise that kicked off in 1975 with Escape to Witch Mountain. Return from Witch Mountain followed in 1978, and then in 1995 Robert Vaughn and Elisabeth Moss starred in a television remake of the 1975 family-friendly film. Andy Fickman’s Race to Witch Mountain with Dwayne Johnson, Carla Gugino, and Alexander Ludwig debuted in theaters in 2009 and rang up 100+ million at the box office.

Having survived multiple Jurassic Worlds, Bryce Dallas Howard now is escaping to Witch Mountain, as a star of Disney+‘s series “reimagining” of the long-dormant film franchise.

Sony Pictures is in early development on a new adaptation of the classic sitcom “Bewitched,” starring Elizabeth Montgomery.
Montgomery starred for eight seasons as Samantha Stephens, a witch married to an ordinary man named Darrin (Dick York and later Dick Sargent) and whose magical powers often cause — yet, sometimes solve — a few wrinkles in her life as a typical suburban housewife.
Created by Sol Saks, under executive producer Harry Ackerman, “Bewitched” ran from 1964 to 1972 on ABC and was a defining example of the genre. Its spinoff, “Tabitha” (focused on Samantha and Darren’s daughter), ran for one season.
The new film comes from producers John Davis and John Fox with a script written by Terry Matalas and Travis Fickett. Matalas has an overall deal at CBS and is currently co-running “Star Trek: Picard.” The quartet is also developing the “Witch Mountain” remake for Disney Plus.

Sony Pictures is in early development on a new movie take on the ’60s sitcom “Bewitched” that starred Elizabeth Montgomery.
The new “Bewitched” movie will be written by Terry Matalas and Travis Fickett, who are the creators behind the series “MacGyver” and “12 Monkeys.”
John Davis and John Fox are developing the film that’s based on the original sitcom series.
“Bewitched” ran for eight seasons and 254 episodes beginning in 1964 and was the story of a witch married to an ordinary man, whom she does not inform of her special powers until after their wedding. Exclusive: Sony Pictures has set a movie based on Bewitched, the classic TV series that starred Elizabeth Montgomery. Terry Matalas and Travis Fickett, who ran the MacGyver and 12 Monkeys series, will write the script. John Davis and John Fox are producing through Davis Entertainment.
Sony tried a romantic comedy movie version in 2005, which Nora Ephron directed and which starred Nicole Kidman as the witch and Will Ferrell as her hapless husband Darrin. This one will be different, I’m told. Its jumping-off point is the series, in which a witch marries an advertising exec and then tries to hide her powers and her crazy relatives who drop in often.
Montgomery starred with Dick York (later replaced by Dick Sargent) in the ABC series that ran from 1964-72. The perfect TV series homemaker facade was used effectively in the recent WandaVision series, and the premise — the wife who has a...

There isn't even time travel involved with this fantastic news.
12 Monkeys has been renewed for a third season, as first reported by EW.
Hailing from executive producers Terry Matalas and Travis Fickett, 12 Monkeys Season 2 is in the middle of one of the most creatively viable and incredibly emotional arcs its ever had.
With only two episodes remaining this season, it's wonderful of Syfy to give fans the freedom to really sit back and enjoy what lies ahead.
“Syfy and Ucp have been incredible creative partners, and I’m thrilled that we are going to tell the next — even more twisty and emotional — chapter of this time travel adventure,” Matalas told EW.
This season, a lot of the action has taken place in the future, a future in which protaganists and would-be love interests James Cole (Aaron Standford) and Cassandra Railly (Amanda Schull) have been distant and at odds.

The sheer volume of television both currently on air and available to stream is daunting. It's nigh impossible even for those who track TV for a living to keep up with it all. At this point, the curators need curators. We could recommend many shows from Rectify, to The Knick, to The Leftovers, to Mr. Robot, but here are just three currently on that air that you may have missed. A gripping spy thriller, one piece of mesmerizing horror, and a cleverly realized science fiction adventure are all on tap and all easy to catch up on if you're a first time viewer. The Americans: This criminally under-watched FX spy drama is arguably the best television series currently on the air. Set in the 1980s during the height of the Cold War, The Americans challenges the audience to view the world through the eyes of the “enemy,” as we follow...

SyFy has renewed its Terry Gilliam adaptation 12 Monkeys for a second season. Currently midway through its rookie outing, the network will further the adventures of the time-traveling Cole for another string of episodes due to bow in 2016.
Behind the scenes responsibilities will undergo a slight change before production rolls out, though. Showrunner Nathalie Chaidez is exiting to concentrate her efforts on another Syfy property called Hunters. Taking her place are Terry Matalas and Travis Fickett, the co-executive producers and writers of the pilot, who will step up their duties.
Strong support from audiences has given the show an edge on ratings since it debuted. As it stands now, the series has reached 15 million viewers overall, and is increasing its viewership on a weekly basis. Its season finale will land on April 10 – the same day as Netflix drops all 13 episodes of Marvel’s Daredevil – so we will have to wait to...

Get ready for "12 Monkeys" X 2. Does that mean 24 monkeys? We can only hope. Syfy announced on Thursday (March 12) that "12 Monkeys" will be back for a second season in 2016. While the renewal announcement doesn't include an episode count, it does include an interesting tidbit: With current showrunner Natalie Chaidez developing Syfy's "Hunters," Terry Matalas and Travis Fickett, who wrote the pilot, will be stepping up as showrunners. This is especially fun for those of us who remember Fickett from his days as a TV reporter for IGN. "We are absolutely committed to '12 Monkeys,' and have been incredibly impressed by the outstanding critical and audience praise the series has earned," blurbs Dave Howe, Syfy President. "The talent both on and off-screen have delivered a series that has us all on the edge of our seats, providing exactly the smart, exciting storytelling Syfy is known for." Syfy has renewed its TV series adaptation of "12 Monkeys" for a second season to air next year. The time travel drama scored not only solid reviews, but has been seeing its numbers increase over its thirteen episode first season so far. The first season's finale airs April 10th.
One change for the second season though is that Natalie Chaidez will step down as show runner to prepare the new series "Hunters" for the network. In her place, co-executive producers and the pilot's co-scribes Terry Matalas and Travis Fickett will take over as show runners.
This isn't the only renewal news today as CBS has reportedly given early renewals to its sitcoms "Mom" and "Mike and Molly" for a third and sixth season respectively.

A little over 19 years ago, Terry Gilliam’s mind-bending sci-fi film, 12 Monkeys, hit theaters with a unique time-traveling premise and a standout performance by Brad Pitt. After an exhausting day spent wandering the New York Comic Con floor last Friday, Syfy offered me sanctuary in the form of comfy theater chairs and a sneak preview of their upcoming television reboot, 12 Monkeys. Based off Terry Gilliam’s popular film (Twelve Monkeys), showrunners Travis Fickett and Terry Matalas are looking to bring a hard science fiction bite to Syfy’s regularly scheduled programming, repurposing a famous genre brand in the process. Described as a "complete sort of reimagining" by co-creator Terry Matalas at the TCA Summer Press Tour, the new show stars Aaron Stanford as James Cole (played by Bruce Willis in Terry Gilliam's 1995 film version), a man living in a post-apocalyptic future who travels back to the past to try and eradicate the source of the plague that wiped out a large chunk of the human population. The producers of Syfy's upcoming TV series version of Terry Gilliam's "12 Monkeys" say that the show isn't a exactly a remake.
In fact, yesterday co-executive producer Terry Matalas went as far as saying it is "a complete reimagining. We didn't want to redo the movie and so we changed everything from the top down."
Despite that, a screening of a clip from the new series at the Television Critics Association summer press tour indicated the show uses much of the same imagery and plot concepts from the film, but does seem to discard that film's question of whether Cole really is a time traveler or just insane.

Hot on the heels of renewing Helix for a second season, Syfy have ordered their 12 Monkeys pilot to a 12 episode series. Based on the acclaimed 1995 Terry Gilliam film of the same name – which starred Bruce Willis and Brad Pitt – the show is expected to premiere in January 2015.
