With Disney's acquisition of 20th Century Fox, the Marvel Studios sandbox got a lot bigger. It may take time to bring some of the franchise's most anticipated heroes to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but that hasn't stopped eager fans from speculating about the where or the when. With a new Fantastic Four film on the horizon, it's only natural that our attentions turn to the Marvel Cinematic Universe debut of one of the franchise's greatest villains: Victor Von Doom, aka Doctor Doom. With so much material to build from, the possibilities really are endless, and many even expected to see Doom in Marvel Studios' latest, "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever."
As promising as a showdown would have been between the kingdom of Latveria and that of Wakanda, Doom does not pop up in the "Black Panther" sequel — not in cameo, and definitely not as the real antagonist pulling the strings from the shadows.

Spoilers for "Black Panther: Wakanda" Forever follow.
While it can be a somber and reverent experience due to the loss of franchise star Chadwick Boseman, the titular hero King T'Challa, and the process of moving forward without either of them, "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever" also maintains an element of joy. We're not just talking about the happiness that True Believers get when a new Marvel Studios movie debuts in theaters, either. Ryan Coogler's follow-up to his hit 2018 superhero movie is infused with the exuberance of a true celebration of culture and life. And though the things that bring us joy in the Phase Four finale are the characters like Shuri, M'Baku, Okoye, Nakia, the people of Wakanda, and their resilience in the face of tragedy, the House of Ideas continues to spread tiny bits of happiness throughout their projects for eagle-eyed viewers with the help of well placed Easter eggs.

In the early days of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, critics lobbied one consistent complaint against the franchise: no good villains. Sure, there was Loki and the Red Skull, but who else? Iron Monger was just Jeff Bridges’ head floating atop a CG robot, Maliketh the Dark Elf absolutely wasted the magnetic Christopher Eccleston, and the less said about Whiplash the better. Over the years, that complaint has diminished somewhat with the additions of Black Panther baddie Killmonger and the universe-destroying Thanos.
But even as the MCU continues to improve its roster of villains, there’s one irreplaceable bad guy fans are dying to see: the ruler of Latveria, Dr. Victor von Doom.
Doom’s Marvel Origin
Created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, Doctor Doom made his first appearance in 1962’s Fantastic Four #5, immediately establishing himself as a formidable threat, with his green tunic and metallic mask. The six decades...

We hope you weren’t getting too invested in V-Wars or October Faction…
The two Netflix original series – which premiered on December 5th and January 23rd, respectively – have officially been canned by the online streaming giant, and will now join the likes of Messiah, Aj and the Queen, Spinning Out, Soundtrack and Daybreak in the Netflix graveyard.
It’s a sudden change of fate for both original series, given they’ve only just been released into the wild. But as The Hollywood Reporter notes, Netflix has now pulled the plug on each of them, quashing any hopes for a second season of V-Wars. Or indeed the comic book-inspired October Faction.
The former series starred Vampire Diaries favorite Ian Somerhalder, who played the part of Dr. Luther Swann. Somerhalder’s brooding character gets a front-row seat to the end of days, after a mysterious disease transforms his best friend, Michael Fayne,...

Two of Netflix’s freshman drama series will not see a second season. The streaming giant has canceled vampire drama series V Wars starring Ian Somerhalder, based on Jonathan Maberry’s bestselling book, and October Faction, based on the Idw comics by Steve Niles, Deadline has confirmed.
V Wars, published in 2012 by Idw Publishing, debuted as a collection of prose stories that chronicles the first Vampire War. Somerhalder starred as Dr. Luther Swann, who enters a world of untold horror when a mysterious disease transforms his best friend, Michael Fayne, into a murderous predator who feeds on other humans. As the disease spreads and more people are transformed, society fractures into opposing camps pitting normal people against the growing number of these “vampires.” Swann races against time to understand what’s happening, while Fayne rises to become the powerful underground leader of the vampires.

Ian Somerhalder is well-known for playing vampire bad boy Damon Salvatore on The CW's The Vampire Diaries, but he's showing a whole new side of himself with his role in Netflix's V Wars, which drops on Dec. 5. Based on the bestselling books by Jonathan Maberry, the new series follows Dr. Luther Swann (Somerhalder) in a world where a mysterious disease has turned humans, including his best friend Michael Fayne (Adrian Holmes), into murderous predators.
After starring on The Vampire Diaries for eight seasons, you're probably wondering why Somerhalder would want to do another vampire show. While the actor totally understands people's fascination with him jumping back into the supernatural world, it's actually the differences between the two projects that drew him to V Wars in the first place.

Ian Somerhalder wants you all to know that there are absolutely no sexy vampires in his new Netflix show, “V Wars.” None.
But he understands why people might think there would be, and why one might ask why he’s chosen to star in yet another vampire-themed series. After all, this year is the 10th anniversary of his other vampire show, “Vampire Diaries,” where he did play — in his words– a “sexy” vampire Damon Salvatore, for eight seasons.
“Yes. I could totally understand and recognize why that would be a question,” Somerhalder told TheWrap ahead of the “V Wars” premiere on Dec. 5. “I love the genre. I want to say I’ve learned a pretty good amount about the genre over the last decade.” You can watch the full interview above.

What would happen if the human race slowly turned into murderous vampires? That's what Netflix's V Wars sets to uncover.

At the center of the story is Luther Swann (played Vampire Diaries star Ian Somerhalder), a doctor who races to find a cure for the virus when his best friend Michael Fayne (Adrian Holmes) is affected.
Based on the first trailer alone, the show looks like a wild ride. There's action, there's lots of blood, and there's even a cameo from former Twilight star and Somerhalder's real-life wife, Nikki Reed. So, just who are the true villains and heroes of this story? It seems Ian Somerhalder just can't quit the vampire genre. After playing Damon Salvatore on The Vampire Diaries for eight seasons, the actor is dipping his toes into the supernatural yet again with Netflix's V-Wars. Only this time, he'll be playing a human. In the series, which is based on Jonathan Maberry's Idw graphic novels of the same name, Somerhalder will play Dr. Luther Swann, a man who has to adapt to a terrifying new reality when his best friend Michael is transformed into a murderous predator by a mysterious disease.
So, what exactly made Somerhalder decide to do another vampire show? Well, he just couldn't turn down the incredible story. We recently talked with the actor for National Take Your Cat to the Vet Day on Aug. 22 in partnership with Royal Canin, and he discussed why he's so passionate about the upcoming series and how it will differ from The Vampire Diaries.
