Ben Affleck’s brand ambassadorship for Dunkin’ leveled up during Sunday’s 2024 Grammys with the debut of the star’s latest spot for the coffee and donut shop chain launching an apparent campaign in which the actor follows in his wife’s footsteps to become a pop star.
The ad, which also features social media star Charli D’Amelio, comes a year after the famous Sad Affleck meme emerged at the 2023 Grammys; the viral moment came when the show’s broadcast caught the actor’s despondent and distant expression as wife Jennifer Lopez danced joyfully next to him.
“Keep laughing,” the actor now says in Sunday night’s spot, as he’s watching a news report about that Grammys moment. ”’He’s bored.’ No — he’s studying, always watching. I can do that. How hard can it be?” Then, in a rapid-fire montage, the 30-second spot shows Affleck in a recording studio,...

Another team is departing from the Bally Sports ecosystem of regional sports networks. Court filings reveal that Diamond Sports Group (Dsg) is has requested the judge in the case allow it to reject its contract with the Arizona Diamondbacks as of June 30.
The Diamondbacks contract is “significantly unprofitable and is projected to be increasingly unprofitable in subsequent years,” DSGs representatives write in the court filing. This would be the second MLB team to depart Bally Sports channels, after the San Diego Padres saw their broadcasting rights rejected by Diamond at the end of May. The company claims that Bally Sports Arizona, which broadcasts Diamondbacks games, lost $3 million last month alone.
“As a result of this ongoing analysis and other developments, the Debtors have determined, in their business judgment, that the Diamondbacks Agreement is unnecessary and burdensome to the Debtors’ estates and should be rejected,” Diamond’s motion reads.

The 2023 Mallorca Championships field got a significant boost with a sudden influx of players as Stefanos Tsitsipas , Felix Auger-Aliassime , and Feliciano Lopez got wild cards.
The 2023 Mallorca Championships already had a pretty decent field with the likes of Nick Kyrgios and Ben Shelton taking part but the field has now been enhanced with the addition of several players. Defending champion Stefanos Tsitsipas wasn't initially on the entry list but the Greek will be there thanks to a wild card.
His only grass trophy came last year in Mallorca and he'll need a few more matches to finetune his grass tennis, especially after parting ways with a coach who was largely credited with improving his level on the surface.
He'll be joined by Felix Auger-Aliassime who is yet to play a match on grass after consecutive pull-outs recently. He was initially scheduled to play at the Libema Open in Den Bosch but withdrew before the event.

When TV academy voters sit down to fill out their 2023 Emmy nominations ballots, they have to consider 95 shows for Best Comedy Series; this is down by 23 contenders from last year. After six years of there being no restrictions on the amount of entrants they could vote for, each member’s selections can now not exceed the number of eventual nominations in a given category, which, in this case, will be eight.

Feliciano Lopez was appointed as the 2023 Davis Cup tournament director, but fans weren't happy about it after the Madrid Open fiasco.
The appointment of Lopez as the new Davis Cup Tournament Director has sparked outrage among tennis fans, who are questioning his ability to handle such a prestigious role in light of recent events.
One of the major incidents that tarnished the Madrid Open's reputation involved a stark difference in the size of the birthday cakes given to players Carlos Alcaraz and Aryna Sabalenka . Both players, who share the same birthday and were competing in the Spanish capital, were presented with birthday cakes during the tournament.
However, Alcaraz's cake was noticeably larger than Sabalenka's, sparking a debate about gender disparity in tennis and eliciting comments from other Wta players such as Victoria Azarenka and Bianca Andreescu.

Earlier, the star of Blue Beetle, Xolo Maridueña, was wise not to put the cart before the horse in regard to the character’s standing as a franchise as he wanted to wait to see how the movie does, “If we get one movie or a trilogy and f*cking fold this into the Justice League shit, we’re ready for the whole nine. For me and Angel [Manuel Soto, director] and the team, we kicked ass with this movie. It just depends on numbers.“. However, it was a little murky on which regime of the DC film universe the origin story would fall under. The new head of DC at Warner Bros., James Gunn, recently appeared on the Inside of You podcast with Smallville‘s Michael Rosenbaum and has confirmed that Blue Beetle will be the first character in his DC universe.

ABC is passing on its pilots.
The network has passed on Anthony Anderson-fronted Public Defenders and Ellie Kemper-led Keeping It Together, which is a remake of British comedy Motherland, as well as dramas The Hurt Unit, starring Melissa George and Ben McKenzie, and Judgement starring Sex/Life’s Sarah Shahi.
ABC Signature is, however, planning to shop The Hurt Unit to other networks and platforms, while 20th Television will be shopping Public Defenders and Judgement.
The move comes as it still has decisions to make on series Home Economics and The Rookie: Feds as well as The Good Lawyer, which was a backdoor pilot spinoff of The Good Doctor.
Last month, ABC handed a series order to Drew Goddard’s pilot High Potential, starring Kaitlin Olson. The project, which is based on the popular French detective series Hip, was the clear front-runner all development season.

Christian Lopez recorded his just-released album Magdalena in self-imposed exile in a remote corner of New Mexico. But for his new video “Harpers Ferry,” the singer-songwriter-guitarist went home again.
A West Virginia native, Lopez would frequently visit nearby Harpers Ferry, a historic site in the U.S. Civil War and beyond, as a kid. When he returns now, for a video directed by his frequent collaborator Steve Jawn, Lopez has an evolved perspective on Harpers Ferry’s innate beauty. It’s a feeling we all have for places dear to us.

Unfortunately I am having some trouble with this story, which is a shame because I really love the character. I think a big part that is working against it, especially from my own point of view is the retroactive angle to the story. Without repeating myself from last month, in a nutshell, a lack of consequences detracts from delivering a good story. There has been a spate of retroactive storytelling from Marvel in the last few years, some has worked and some hasn’t. I think a lot of it can come down to the popularity and back catalogue of any given character to decide the levels of success a retroactive story can have. Even though I said I love the character I have to admit my knowledge of her early comics are sketchy at best.

The Asian representation in Vienna Shorts this year was quite restricted with just 8 movies in the program. However, among those, there are definitely a couple of gems, while the diversity is impressive, since experimental, animation, comedy, horror, drama are just some of the elements that appear in the film. Without further ado, here is a list of all the Asian entries, in random order.

Hito (2023) by Stephen Lopez
Stephen Lopez can easily be described as one of Khavn's “students”, since his chaotic style of filmmaking with the many, absurd vignettes, the constant mocking of a number of concepts including the title and his filmmaking itself, the music video aesthetics and the sociopolitical commentary are all elements found in Khavn's cinema. At the same time though, Lopez is somewhat more grounded in terms of his script,...

It’s probably not getting an Oscar nominations anytime soon, but “The Mother” has bested Martin Scorsese’s “The Irishman” where it counts: Netflix viewership metrics. Jennifer Lopez’s thriller film has entered the streamer’s list of Top 10 most popular English-language films at No. 8, knocking Scorsese’s three-and-a-half hour mobster epic out of the upper echelon.
Netflix announced the news on Tuesday, along with the release of viewership numbers for the week of May 29 to June 4. “The Mother,” which has streamed for four weeks after premiering on Netflix May 12, has now been watched for a total of 229.30 million total hours by Netflix subscribers. That’s enough to place it between “Extraction” (231.340 million hours) and “Purple Hearts” (228.69 million hours) on the all-time list, and bump “The Irishman,” which peaked at 214.57 million hours viewed after its first 28 days on the streamer, from the list.

Whether he’s on his way to work or just rolling through his hometown of London, England, James Corden always makes time for a good ole carpool karaoke.
Corden’s “Carpool Karaoke” performances may be what he’s most know for, having had notable talents from Usher, Lady Gaga, Ariana Grande and more singing along in the passenger seat. “The Late Late Show with James Corden” host credits singer/songwriter George Michael as the inspiration behind the segment, as the late Wham! singer as his first “Carpool Karaoke” guest when they appeared in the skit back in 2011 for a British charity. In the skit, Michael and Corden sang several songs, which eventually gave Corden the idea to turn it into a portion on his show when the talk show debuted on March 23, 2015.

Jennifer Lopez starrer “Unstoppable” has suspended production indefinitely amid the writer’s strike, TheWrap has confirmed.
The move comes after the film shut down production Wednesday due to picketers at USC’s campus, where it was filming.

The Jennifer Lopez feature Unstoppable is the latest film to shut down indefinitely as the Writers Strike continues to roil the industry.
Unstoppable, which hails from Ben Affleck and Matt Damon’s Artists Equity, was filming in Los Angeles and was disrupted by picketing strikers earlier in the week. The hope now is to resume at an indeterminate date. Deadline first reported the news.
Unstoppable follows in the footsteps of Aziz Ansari’s Lionsgate feature Good Fortune, which shut down indefinitely two weeks ago in the middle of production after facing picketing. It hopes to resume production after the strike. Meanwhile, Marvel Studios’ Blade and Thunderbolts opted not to go into production until after the strike ends. (Marvel scripts are known to evolve during filming.)
Unstoppable is the second feature from Artists Equity following Air, the 1980s-set film centering on Nike’s battle to sign a young Michael Jordan to an endorsement deal.

Things have gone from bad to worse for Diamond Sports Group (Dsg), the company that operates the Bally Sports collection of regional sports networks (RSNs) that primarily broadcast Major League Baseball, NBA, and NHL games for teams across the country. In March, Diamond declared bankruptcy, but after arguing in court this week that it should be able to pay a lower rate to maintain the broadcast rights of four MLB teams, after a two-day emergency hearing, Judge Christopher Lopez ruled that the company must pay the Minnesota Twins, Cleveland Guardians, Arizona Diamondbacks, and Texas Rangers in full “in the ordinary course of business.”

Diamond’s parent company, Sinclair Broadcasting Group (Sbg), took on $8 billion in debt to purchase the RSNs from Fox in 2019, but has seen their individual and collective value decrease significantly in the four years since, exacerbated by the streaming boom that coincided with the Covid-19 pandemic.

Stephen Lopez was born in Quezon City in 1991, he graduated from the University of Santo Tomas in 2012 with a BA in nursing before deciding to take up a career in filmmaking. Since then, he has lived and worked in Manila as a freelance production sound recordist (his credits include Khavn's “Balangiga: Howling Wilderness”), sound designer and screenwriter for films and commercials. “Hito” was the only Filipino entry at this year's Berlinale, where it had its world premiere, and now finds its way to Vienna Shorts.

The film begins with two schoolgirls fighting in the dirt, in the foreground of a setting that is dominated by the presence of nuclear factories in the background. Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck have finally found their dream home.
After two years of looking, the pair sealed the deal on an incredible $60 million Usd home in Beverly Hills, TMZ reported.
Lopez and Affleck — who tied the knot last summer — were said to have paid $60,850,000 in cash, with the deal taking just one week to complete.
TMZ pointed out the property — that boasts 12 bedrooms, 24 bathrooms and 15 fireplaces — had been listed back in 2018 for a whopping $135,000,000, before the price dropped to $75 million this year.

Major League Baseball and Bally Sports’ parent company Diamond Sports Group (Dsg) headed back to court this week for a scheduled emergency hearing. MLB will try to make its case that it deserves to reclaim the broadcasting rights to all 13 teams that Diamond currently holds, while Diamond will try to convince the judge those contracts are worth less now than they were when signed, and that it should only have to pay reduced broadcasting fees to the individual teams.
The hearing began on Wednesday and will conclude Thursday when Judge Christopher Lopez hands down his ruling. According to Front Office Sports, the biggest shock came when MLB commissioner Rob Manfred took the stand and claimed that before Dsg headed to court to secure bankruptcy protections, he got a visit from David Smith, executive chairman of Dsg parent company Sinclair Broadcasting Group. Smith wanted the streaming rights to all teams Dsg held the broadcasting rights to,...

Another major feature film has seen its production brought to a halt, at least temporarily, amid picketing related to the ongoing WGA strike. TheWrap has confirmed that “Unstoppable,” starring Jennifer Lopez and Jharrel Jerome, paused early Wednesday amid picketing at their location near University of Southern California in Los Angeles.
It is not known whether the Artists Equity production will resume shooting Thursday. This is just the latest mid-production feature to have its schedule halted due to picketers, as Aziz Ansari’s “Good Fortune” was one of the first such films to be brought to a standstill two weeks ago.

When Amber Ruffin begins speaking from the other end of the phone line, she reveals that she’s eaten too many eggs. “Why did I do this?” she ponders. “It’s not normal. I eat a lot of eggs. But I don’t like to leave them because, you know, you can’t reheat them, so that means you have to eat all of them.”

Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck‘s love is real!
According to a source, Mr. and Mrs. Affleck’s love is growing stronger.
“Ben and Jen are doing phenomenally. They are closer than ever before and both of them are elated. They’re feeling united and are in very positive spirits,” a source tells Et. “Ben loves how talented, intelligent and loyal Jen is. They lean on each other and are supportive of one another.”
Lopez, 53, and Affleck, 50, rekindled their relationship in 2021, almost two decades after they called off their initial engagement in 2004. In July, the pair went to a chapel in Las Vegas and had an intimate late-night ceremony. The following month, the duo said “I do” in Georgia during a lavish multi-day ceremony.
Since then, the couple has not been shy about putting their love on display — whether it be on the red carpet, while house hunting or supporting each other’s work.

Madrid, May 24 (Ians) The final two matches in the 36th round of games in La Liga will be played on Thursday night, with Mallorca at home to Valencia and Osasuna entertaining Athletic Bilbao.
Mallorca are safe from relegation on 44 points, but need to recover from a 3-0 thrashing to Almeria last weekend, while Valencia still have some work to do to ensure their top-flight survival.

Last summer, Van Robichaux ran for the board of directors of the Writers Guild of America West. Out of 17 candidates, he was the only one who raised a concern about artificial intelligence in his campaign statement.
“As far as I know, this issue is not on the radar of anyone else running for the board and while I might sound like a paranoid lunatic talking about it today, in 10 years I’m confident you’ll be glad I brought it up now,” he wrote.
He did not win.
AI has since become the hottest topic in the creative economy, spurred by the release of models like Stable Diffusion last August and ChatGPT in November. Across disciplines – graphic design, animation, acting, music, writing – artists are terrified of being replaced by robots.
“I think they’re right to be concerned,” said Bruce Schneier, a lecturer in cybersecurity at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government.

Jennifer Lopez graced screens across the country during Mother’s Day weekend in her latest action thriller for Netflix, “The Mother.”
The film, which garnered 2.8 million households tuning in for its first three days available to stream, is already well underway as Netflix’s latest original movie sensation in its debut week, according to the Wrap Report for May 10-16, which tracks the most-watched programs across streaming and linear TV, according to viewership trends collected from Samba TV’s panel of more than 3 million households drawn from over 25 million connected TVs, balanced to the U.S. Census.
Not only did Lopez, the queen of the rom-com, successfully cross genres and deliver impressive viewership for an entirely different audience on the streamer, but she beat out several of the streamer’s most prominent recent originals during the same initial three-day time frame. Madrid, May 22 (Ians) Real Madrid endured another setback this week, succumbing to a 1-0 defeat away to Valencia.
Thanks to a first-half goal from young striker Diego Lopez, Valencia practically ensured their continued place in the top-flight, reports Xinhua.
Lopez struck just past the half-hour mark, capitalizing on a mishit shot from Justin Kluivert. This ultimately awarded his team all three points against a significantly changed Madrid lineup, a stark contrast from the one that suffered a 4-0 defeat to Manchester City in Wednesday’s Champions League match.
Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili showcased a series of exceptional saves to clinch the victory.
However, the match will also be memorable for off-field incidents. Madrid winger Vinicius Jr was provoked into an angry reaction following a racist insult from a fan in the stands and had to be placated by both rivals and teammates.

The Mother. Jennifer Lopez as The Mother in The Mother. Cr. Ana Carballosa/Netflix © 2023. Released during Mother’s Day weekend, you’d think a movie called The Mother would be sweet and sentimental. But you’d be wrong. Instead, it’s an action movie starring Jennifer Lopez, who plays a military operative code-named The Mother. While the action does get fierce, there is still some room for maternal drama, as the daughter she gave up for adoption is used as a pawn in an attempt to draw out The Mother. Lopez says it was that idea of a mother fighting for her daughter that made the movie so appealing to her. (Click on the media bar below to hear Jennifer Lopez) https://www.hollywoodoutbreak.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/Jennifer_Lopez_The_Mother_.mp3 The Mother is currently streaming on Netflix.

You can’t deny the power of actress Jennifer Lopez. Her latest feature, Netflix’s “The Mother,” has only been out for a week and has scored Netflix’s biggest opening weekend for a film of 2023 with 83.71 million hours viewed since its premiere. But the story of a Mother, played by Lopez, determined to protect the child she gave up for adoption at any cost, was a tough sell for Netflix.
When director Niki Caro was presented with the script, she asked the film’s producer, Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas, if the streaming giant would be open to it. For both, they understood that the film needed to hold its own alongside the male-dominated franchises like “The Bourne Identity” or Netflix’s own “Extraction.”
“This isn’t a 25-year-old character,” Goldsmith-Thomas told TheWrap. “And this isn’t a white woman. In the old days, that would be a white 25-year-old.”

It’s official: Bennifer is a power couple when it comes to streaming, too.
That much is clear after Ben Affleck’s “Air,” which chronicles Nike’s courtship of Michael Jordan in the mid-’80s, just led Amazon’s Prime Video to its best streaming week of the year. (More on that in a moment.) “Air” finished last weekend as the second-most streamed movie in the U.S., according to Whip Media’s movie ranker, which is based on viewership data from TV Time, its TV and movie tracking app with more than 25 million global registered users.
The only movie Americans streamed more last weekend? Jennifer Lopez’s “The Mother,” which pushed Netflix to the top of the ranking. And there’s no shame in coming in second place here, considering “The Mother” had the best opening weekend for a Netflix movie in 2023, taking into account every market the streaming giant is in.

Jennifer Lopez is being candid about the life her two children are experiencing.
“The Mother” actress shared during a recent interview that her and ex-husband Marc Anthony’s 15-year-old twins are seeing the effects of their parents’ celebrity.
“I think being the child of famous parents is not something many people can understand and I feel for [my kids] for that because they didn’t choose that,” the 53-year-old said during a roundtable talk with Audacy.
The “All My Love” songstress said that her children have recently begun sharing how they are perceived by others.
“They have just started letting me know how people treat them — so when they walk into the room, that’s what people are thinking about,” she said. “They’re not seeing them for who they are. And I think that has to be a really hard thing for them. So, I would love to be able to protect them from that.

The WGA strike and its work-stoppage left thousands of writers with an indefinite amount of free time to fill their days. Some are spending it on the picket lines, while others are tending to their personal lives. On May 10, close to 400 striking writers did both by mixing picketing and pleasure at the inaugural “Strike Up a Romance,” an inclusive, 21+ singles picket and party.
The event — co-hosted by a team of Hollywood scribes including Lj Matchmaking’s Jaydi Samuels Kuba and Lauren Rosenberg with Debby Wolfe, Marcos Luevanos and Deanna Shumaker — kicked off with a four-hour protest at the Universal Studios gates followed by an evening mixer over margaritas at Roadside Taco on Ventura Boulevard. Name tags and colored markers helped scribes signal their dating preferences (pink for interested in women, blue for men, purple for people and red for “wing person”) while the circumstances provided the social lubricant.

Up until now, all Marvel TV shows on Disney+ have been released weekly, but Echo will change that. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige announced during Disney’s Upfronts that all episodes of Echo will premiere at once on November 29th.
“In Hawkeye, fans were first introduced to Maya Lopez, a character played by Alaqua Cox,” Kevin Feige said. “She will return to get her revenge in Echo, a limited drama from an incredible team of indigenous writers, directors and cast members. And in a first for us all episodes will drop on November 29.” There were rumblings that the release of Echo, along with other MCU shows, could be pushed back to 2024, but that doesn’t seem to be the case with the Hawkeye spinoff.
Marvel also announced that Loki season 2 will premiere on October 6th, but unlike Echo, it will stick with a weekly release schedule. Owen Wilson guessed two...

Just before “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” (Universal) arrives on PVOD May 16 (an unusually long 41 days after theatrical release), three films — two are new releases — ranked #1 this week.
May 12 saw the debut of two movies with similar plots. In “The Mother,” Jennifer Lopez is a retired government agent who rescues the daughter she gave up for adoption years before, while “Hypnotic” stars Ben Affleck as a cop trying to find his missing daughter. There the resemblance ends: “The Mother” is #1 at Netflix, while Robert Rodriguez’s $70 million “Hypnotic” opened in theaters to disastrous results.
The difference doesn’t lie with the couple’s respective star power, and both films draw on the same “Taken” template. However, “The Mother” seems fresher with Lopez in the Liam Neeson/Gerard Butler role and it’s a streaming original — a platform that makes it easier to attract viewers with a familiar name.
Affleck remains a viable draw.

In Netflix’s new thriller “The Mother,” Jennifer Lopez plays a military-trained assassin with a complicated criminal past who comes out of hiding to rescue the daughter she gave up years earlier. The premise is essentially a pretext for a series of impeccably staged action sequences that director Niki Caro mounts with the same exceptional precision and professionalism that characterizes Lopez’s shooter; while you may have seen this kind of revenge plot before in the “Taken” and “John Wick” movies, you’ve never seen the gunplay and stunt driving filtered through Caro’s sensibility, and that makes all the difference.
Caro cut her teeth on fight scenes with the elegant martial arts choreography of Disney’s “Mulan,” a film that she credits with giving her the confidence to handle large-scale action. For “The Mother,” however, she wanted something different. “With this one, I just felt like it was gloves off,...
