Max Films will be producing a live-action feature based on the adventures of young farmboy "Philémon," a character created by French comic book artist Fred and published by Dargaud. The original bandes dessinée is considered one of the most poetic French comic series of all time. Julien Demers-Arsenault and Sébastien Denault, both French-Canadians trained in VFX, are set to direct. The film will be the first instance of Philémon adapted for the screen with English dialogue. Though the film will be shot primarily at real locations, computer animation, matte-paintings and digital compositing techniques will be used to capture the surreal visuals of the character's unique world and the odd creatures he meets, as well as more traditional on-camera techniques such as miniatures, costumes, special make-up, puppets and animatronics, which will all be enhanced and optimized in post-production.
