Plot: In season three, a series of explosions rock Kingstown and its citizens, as a new face of the Russian mob sets up shop in the city, and a drug war rages inside and outside prison walls. The pressure is on Mike McLusky (Renner) to end the war but things get complicated when a familiar face from his incarcerated past threatens to undermine the Mayor’s attempts to keep the peace among all factions.
Review: Twelve months after his near-fatal accident, Jeremy Renner began production on the third season of Mayor of Kingstown. Seeing the Avengers star back on his feet and in character as Mike McLusky is an impressive sight as he slips back into his character’s rumpled suit and takes charge of the various factions, criminal and non, in the Michigan city. Renner is a testament to perseverance. As great as it is to see him on screen again,...

I guess the only question Mike McLusky asks himself is: What will happen to Kingstown if he isn’t around? Often called the Mayor (not the literal one), Mike is the Hermes of Kingstown. The one who acts as a link between two worlds. There are around seven prisons within a ten-mile radius of Kingstown, holding up more than 20,000 prisoners. The prisoners don’t trust the prison guards, and the gangsters don’t let the cops come anywhere near them. It’s a sensitive situation. Gang wars and prison riots can break out at any minute, burning the entire town into ashes, and therefore, Kingstown needs its Mayor, Mike McLusky, more than anyone else.
Long story short, it was Mike’s father who started the family business of incarceration. I know that sounds wrong, but that’s how Mike defines it. Mike’s father used to facilitate deals between the prisoners and police,...

The series stars Jeremy Renner as Mike McLusky, who comes from a family of power brokers in Kingstown, Mich., where the business of incarceration is the only thriving industry. Along with Renner, the cast includes Dianne Wiest as Miriam McLusky, Mike’s mother; series co-creator Hugh Dillon as detective Ian Ferguson; Taylor Handley as Kyle McLusky, Mike’s younger brother; Emma Laird as Iris, an escort; Tobi Bamtefa as Bunny, leader of the Kingstown Crips; Derek Webster as Stevie, another detective; Hamish Allan-Headley as police sargeant Robert Sawyer; and Aidan Gillen as Russian mobster Milo Sunter.

Hugh Dillon and Tobi Bamtefa revealed their favorite moments working with the star-studded cast of Mayor of Kingstown.
The show follows Mike McLusky (played by Jeremy Renner), a power broker who lives in Kingstown, Michigan, a town surrounded by several local prisons. The show deals relevant topics, including systemic racism and the prison industrial complex. The show was co-created by Dillon and Taylor Sheridan. Dillon also plays a police officer, Ian Ferguson. Bamtefa plays Deverin ‘Bunny’ Washington, a drug dealer, leader of the Crips, and a friend of Mike’s.
“If you watch the trailer, I think the trailer opens with Mitch [Kyle Chandler] and Mike standing by the water discussing, right?” Bamtefa said to uInterview Founder Erik Meers. “That was, I actually went to visit, I think I just come out of quarantine, and I just gotten to go do a costume consultancy with the costume department and I...

Mayor of Kingstown returned for its second season today, Sunday, January 15, on Paramount+, and star and co-creator Hugh Dillon is weighing in on how the sophomore chapter deals with the fallout of Season 1’s prison riot. “If anything, everyone is hyper vigilant,” Dillon, who plays Detective Ian Ferguson on the series, told Deadline in a new interview. “It’s more intimate. We’re looking at why these characters do what they do. We’re really steering into what’s triggering these people who are predisposed to their most darkest impulses.” Dillon, 59, previously told TV Insider that Ian is blind to how the riot impacted him “because he’s been so desensitized.” “And I’ve known guys like that, [who] have just been in the game so long that you become world-weary, and you’re moving forward putting one foot in front of the other. And it is that desensitization that — there...

Spoiler Alert! This story contains plot points from the season 2 premiere of Mayor of Kingstown.
The Jeremy Renner starrer returned to Paramount+ today to address the fallout from last season’s prison riot and the escape of big bad Milo Sutter (Aiden Gillen). Here, Hugh Dillon — who created the drama with Taylor Sheridan and stars as Det. Ian Ferguson — talks about where the new season is going and how Renner’s injuries will impact when — or if — production resumes on a third season. (The show has not received a third season pickup yet).
Deadline: First things first: Did your character really have to shoot that pitbull 12 times?
Hugh Dillon Well, yeah! What I love was how that’s a real story. It came from Taylor. It happened in L.A. I love dropping real life into the show. The guy we use as a creative consultant just sent me a...

Review: With all the acclaim bestowed upon Taylor Sheridan’s growing catalog of original series airing on Paramount networks, it is easy to forget that not every one of the shows he has created ends up a masterpiece. Mayor of Kingstown was the first series from Sheridan to debut after the original Yellowstone and amassed the biggest ratings debut for Paramount Network at the time. With Jeremy Renner in the lead, the Michigan-set series was as far from the natural majesty of Montana as possible but still echoed some of the dramatic and pulpy plots that made the Kevin Costner-led series so popular. Despite...
