What if your child died a violent, tragic death? Would you want to see them again? What would you give for the opportunity? These questions and more are at the core of Wake Wood. It is a film about rebirth and second chances, from the newly reborn Hammer films.
Patrick and Louise (Aiden Gillen and Eva Birthistle) move to a small Irish town called Wake Wood after the death of their daughter. He takes over the local veterinary practice, and she works the pharmacy in town. It’s been nine months since little Alice (Ella Connolly) was attacked by a dog and killed and time hasn’t healed all wounds.
Arthur (Timothy Spall), the town’s former veterinarian, offers the couple a chance to see their daughter again. For three days, and not a minute longer, they will get a chance to say goodbye “properly” according to Arthur. Of course,...

On the outset, Wake Wood is nothing short of unoriginal -- in fact, I'd warn anyone against reading the back of the Blu-ray case and learn its premise. It's likely one you've heard before: a husband and wife who recently suffered the loss of their young child move to a different town in hopes to start again, but find more than they bargained for: spooky things.
As with most movies about a husband and wife who have recently lost their child, the film opens on the death of the child, in this case, the daughter, that drove the father Patrick (Aiden Gillen) and mother Louise (Eva Birthistle) to relocate towns and start again. The scene of the daughter Alice (Ella Connolly) dying is probably as horrific as it could be, a scene involving a German Shepherd attacking and killing her. Make sure you have something soft nearby to throw at the TV,...

After the gruesome death of their daughter Alice (Ella Connolly), Patrick (Aidan Gillen) and Louise (Eva Birthistle) are given the chance to spend three days with their deceased daughter but at what costs? The 2011 rebirth of Hammer Films Wake Wood directed by David Keating is one hell of a return for the iconic production company and is a must see for every die hard horror fiend.
I really enjoyed this flick it has it all a creative and genuinely unsettling story, spot on practical effects, a beautiful original score that will make you feel like you are in the middle of a panic attack, and some truly disturbing imagery created by some exceptional editing. From start to finish I found myself completely sucked into Wake Wood and honestly the film managed to make me jump on three separate occasions both with the use of visuals and audio something I highly...

People love movies where kids kill adults. It’s like some bizarre twist on the animals run amok fad. The movie could be about anything, could be the best movie or the worst movie in the world--it doesn’t matter. All you have to mention is the word “killer kids” and people go ape shit. What is it about children killing people and being “naughty” that unites us so readily? Is it that momentary feeling of glee that brings us back to the days of The Exorcist? The days when wise old Regan McNeil once said, “Your mother sucks cocks in hell” and we all laughed and pretended that we weren’t peeing our pants? Yes, killer kids remind us of the good old days I think. The days when taboos were broken as a mere afterthought.

On July 5, Mpi/Dark Sky Films will release the supernatural horror-thriller movie Wake Wood, a chiller from England’s venerable horror studio Hammer Films, on Blu-ray and DVD for the list prices of $34.98 and $27.98, respectively.
Pagan rituals are practiced in Wake Wood.
Directed by David Keating, the film tells the tale of Patrick and Louise Daley (12 Rounds‘ Aiden Gillen and The Children‘s Eva Birthistle), whose young daughter Alice (Ella Connolly) is killed in a ghastly attack by a crazed dog. Moving to the remote rural Irish community of Wake Wood to escape their grief, the devastated parents are “embraced” by the strange residents of the town, who introduce the couple to a bizarre pagan ritual that will bring Alice back from the grave – for three days only. Both intrigued and disturbed by the possibilities, the Daleys pursue the action, not having pondered what they will do if the ritual...

After seeing “The Resident” — a film that was actually a lot better than it had any right to be — I’m curious to see another entry from the latest incarnation of Hammer Films. Both the aforementioned Hilary Swank thriller and the “Let Me In” remake were heavy on atmosphere, and “Wake Wood”, the legendary studio’s most recent endeavor, looks to continue its the footsteps of its predecessors. The film should arrive in North America on June 20th, 2011, courtesy of Dark Sky. The artwork for the release is situated below. For those who are new to the project, here’s what it’s about: The film tells the story of Patrick and Louise Daley (Aiden Gillen and Eva Birthistle), whose 9-year-old daughter, Alice (Ella Connolly), is killed in a horrific dog attack. Director: David Keating. Review: Adam Wing. After the critical and commercial success of horror remake Let Me In, Hammer Films would appear to be making a welcome comeback, especially if you take into account the quality of David Keating’s latest oddity - call it a resurrection if you will. Still grieving the death of their only child, Alice (Ella Connolly), a young couple relocate to the remote town of Wake Wood where they stumble upon a group of villagers practising Pagan rituals. They soon discover that this ritual has the power to bring back the dead, and could allow them three days to say goodbye to their beloved daughter. When terms are agreed with the ominous leader Arthur (Timothy Spall), far greater questions become apparent... what will they do when it's time for Alice to go back? Will she go back peacefully? Or are there more sinister forces at work?...

Welcome to the town of Wake Wood: an isolated close knit community inhabited by backward folk who are reluctant to welcome newcomers and cling to ancient pagan rituals. Where the revamped Hammer debut Let Me In was a decidedly Hollywood cinematic affair with glossy horror enhancements, this second feature strips the post production gleam and drags the studios kicking and screaming back to their raw British horror roots. How refreshing it is, then, that director David Keating does such an admiral job of pulling off proceedings.

Infamous for reeling off B movie horror flicks, legendary production company Hammer Films returned in 2008 with a new look. Since its revamp and the release of Let Me In, the stylish remake of a Swedish vampire love story, it looks like Hammer's priorities have moved away from quantity and towards quality. 2011 is going to be a busy year for Hammer with three big name productions all set for release, including films starring Daniel Radcliffe and Hilary Swank. Unlike in days of yore, Wake Wood may just stand out as one of the company's lower budget productions.
Wracked with grief after their young daughter, Alice (Ella Connolly), dies on her birthday, Louise (Eva Birthistle) and Patrick (Aidan Gillen), move to the small rural Irish border village of Wake Wood. As the village vet, Patrick fairly successfully integrates but, unable to conceive again, Louise remains scarred by the loss of her child.

Oh, small towns. Will you ever stop being creepy? And dangerous? And all demonic and junk? Hopefully not, then we wouldn’t have creepy little ditties like David Keating’s “Wake Wood”, which looks quite groovy if you’re into “small town with a deadly secret” movies, which I happen to be. Hey, they’re small towns, and they have a deadly secret! And these city slickers are about to find out in the most horrific way possible! Or something along those lines. Please to check out the trailer for “Wake Wood”. In an attempt to cope with the grief and despair of losing their only child Alice (Ella Connolly), mauled to death by a savage dog, veterinarian Patrick Daly (Gillen) and his pharmacist wife Louise (Birthistle) move from the city to the remote Irish village of Wake Wood. With Patrick taking over the local vet’s practice and Louise...

After Let Me In, it's truly hard not to get excited for a new Hammer production. This year we'll see not only the release of The Resident, but also Wake Wood, David Keating's pic that received high praises out of last November's Afm in Santa Monica, CA. North American rights recently acquired by Chicago-based Mpi Media Group. Dark Sky plans a theatrical release in spring 2011, followed by DVD and VOD. Inside you'll find a slew of new images for the thriller that "follows a couple whose new neighbors in a remote rural community introduce them to a pagan ritual to attempt to bring back their dead daughter." The film was shot in Ireland. Aidan Gillen, Eva Birthistle, Timothy Spall and Ella Connolly star.

Hammer, Hammer, Hammer! That's all we hear about these days. Today, already, we've been banging on about two of their other current projects 'The Resident', starring Hilary Swank and Christopher Lee, 'The Woman in Black' with Daniel Radcliffe, and now we're reporting on a long-forgotten project of theirs, 'Wake Wood'. It's been over 2 years now since we reported anything on the project which was set up around the time of Hammer's revival. It was set to shoot over in Ireland with Aiden Gillen, Timothy Spall and Eva Birthistle and now finally things appear to be moving forward on getting this bad-boy Brit horror into theatres with the release of a new UK quad poster. David Keating directs from a script he co-wrote with Brendan McCarthy. Ella Connolly, Amelia Crowley, Brian Gleeson, Dan Gordon and Ruth McCabe co-star and you can check out the new quad and trailer below!
