Despite being fired as X-Men '97 showrunner (the details are still sketchy) shortly before the series premiered on Disney+, Beau DeMayo has remained active on social media, sharing intriguing insights into the development of the animated revival show and revealing some of his key influences.
DeMayo has previously explained how the iconic "Superman takes flight" sequence from Zack Snyder's Man of Steel inspired a similar moment from episode 6 featuring Storm regaining her powers, and has now revealed that a different scene may have "subconsciously influenced" Rogue attacking the villainous Bastion in the recent season finale.
This was yet another standout moment for Rogue, who unleashed the full extent of her power while channelling the pain and rage she felt after losing Gambit in the Genosha massacre
I was likely subconsciously influenced by this when writing the #xmen97 finale beat of Rogue punching Bastion. That’s not Superman hammering Zod.

Martin Scorsese is one of the most acclaimed filmmakers in Hollywood, and even at the age of 81 is churning out pieces of art. The filmmaker last helmed the crime-Western Killers of the Flower Moon, and is already gearing up for his next project. He remains one of the few individual voices still making films today.
Scorsese’s statements about cinema and the way superhero films were taking over the medium had drawn a lot of flack from fans. The director’s comparison of Marvel movies to theme parks sparked outrage as well as a popular meme template. However, even he would agree to one scene from Henry Cavill’s Man of Steel as cinema.

The storytelling process often blurs lines, enabling creators to weave their magic subconsciously, and this holds true for one brutal Henry Cavill scene from Man of Steel. Indeed, the film has intriguingly likely influenced an iconic X-Men ‘97 finale moment involving Rogue, as revealed by Beau DeMayo. Well, a few weeks ago, we got to know about Bastion’s genesis in Tolerance Is Extinction – Part 1, which actually sent waves of nostalgia and surprise through the DC fandom.

X-Men ’97 was able to achieve one more thing that live-action Marvel failed to do, First, of course, was making Cyclops as a character cool again. Second, was the fact that the animated offering from Marvel Studios’ new wing, Marvel Animation, was able to do Avengers: Age of Ultron right.

The X-Men are due to make thier appearance in the MCU, and there are a lot of theories as to how they will be integrated into the history of the franchise. Some have suggested that mutants will enter the MCU from a different universe, one that will be assimilated into the sacred timeline. However, another theory has emerged, suggesting that the X-Men have already been part of the MCU.

There have been multiple theories about how the X-Men exist in the MCU. Some have suggested that Charles Xavier is responsible for hiding mutants in the MCU, while others say that the mutants will slowly emerge now that The Blip has been undone. There is one theory that suggests that not only have mutants always existed in the MCU, but some sort of cataclysmic event wiped them out from the memories of the general public.

The X-Men '97 finale featured some huge Marvel Universe cameos, including Black Panther. However, we'd later discover that T'Chaka was beneath the mask, not T'Challa.
The decision has perplexed viewers, particularly when T'Challa's father is typically portrayed as the former Black Panther who fought alongside Captain America in World War II. T'Challa being sidelined has spawned many fan theories, with most convinced the decision must be related to Chadwick Boseman's death.

X-Men '97 was a big hit with critics right from the start, but the Disney+ revival series has now become the highest-rated Marvel Studios project - live-action or animated, big or small screen - in the 16-year history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
With more reviews now counted for last Wednesday's season finale, X-Men '97 has reached a perfect 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. This takes it past Marvel's previous top-rated Disney+ show, Ms. Marvel (98%), and movie, Black Panther (96%), to become the most positively-reviewed MCU project of all time on the popular aggregator site.
The series wasn't only a critical favourite, as Deadline reports that May 15th's cameo-filled finale, "Tolerance is Extinction, Part 3," amassed a whopping 3.5 million views globally in its first five days on the streaming platform, making it the most-viewed full-length animated series finale since Season 1 of What If…?.

When My Adventures With Superman debuted last year, it felt like a breath of fresh air amidst a sea of overly dark and dreary takes on the character and on the DC Universe in general. Here was a show that allowed Superman to be a symbol of hope, that allowed Clark Kent, Lois Lane, and Jimmy Olsen to be three-dimensional characters with depth and charm, and allowed the larger DC Universe to be vibrant, bombastic, and centered on literally anyone not named Batman.
Now, the newly minted fan-favorite has returned to screens for its second season. With the origin out of the way and the stakes higher than ever, can the show keep the momentum going and deliver an animated DC show on par with the beloved Animated Universe of old? Yes, the answer is yes. Though please keep in mind that this review only pertains to the first two episodes,...

Marvel has been coming up with a lot of new strategies to fix the mistakes they have made these past few years. One of the most creative solutions has to be the concept of Marvel Spotlight. Many fans were upset with how every single project in Marvel had a level of continuity to another, which made casual watching impossible.

Exclusive: The finale of X-Men ’97 has set a promising track record for Disney+.
The episode, which debuted on May 15, saw 3.5M views globally in its first five days on the streaming platform. That makes it the most-viewed full-length animation series finale since Season 1 of What If…?, the Walt Disney Company says.
According to Disney, viewership had been growing consistently over the four episodes leading to the finale.
X-Men ’97 premiered in March with 4M views collectively across the first two episodes in their first five days on the platform.
The exact breakdown of viewership for each episode is unclear, but regardless it does indicate a strong, growing interest for the animated series, since the finale alone was nearly able to match the audience of the first two episodes in the same time frame.
As an added bonus, Disney also says that viewership for the original 1992 X-Men animated series has doubled since X-Men ’97 premiered.

Taking to social media to discuss his work on the series, former X-Men '97 showrunner Beau DeMayo revealed that Deadpool was "off-limits" to the team working on the X-Men: The Animated Series revival's first two seasons.
The prevailing theory among fans is that it must have something to do with Deadpool & Wolverine being on the horizon. The show has featured plenty of other big Marvel cameos, though, including Captain America, Spider-Man, and Doctor Strange.
Marvel Studios Head of TV, Streaming, and Animation, Brad Winderbaum recently caught up with Screen Rant (via Toonado.com) about Wade Wilson's absence from X-Men '97. As it turns out, there's a chance we will eventually see the anti-hero make an appearance.
"I don't know that it was like a hard and fast rule that we couldn't use Deadpool," the executive explained. "We would have had to have an insanely compelling reason to bring Deadpool in.

‘X-Men ’97’ emerged as an unexpected triumph for the Marvel studio amidst a string of disappointments. The series maintained consistently high ratings, staying faithful to the original animated show in both narrative and essence.
Throughout the episodes, numerous notable characters made cameo appearances. However, one prominent Marvel mutant was conspicuously absent: Deadpool. This absence was peculiar, especially considering his brief appearance in the original series and the anticipation surrounding his upcoming movie. Wouldn’t it have been ideal to further build excitement for him through the show?
Fans recently inquired about the absence of Deadpool to Beau DeMayo, the show’s creator, who disclosed that the Merc With the Mouth was not considered. In a recent interview with ScreenRant, Brad Winderbaum, head of animation, provided further insight into the matter.

‘X-Men ’97’ was an unexpected success for the studio following a series of flops. The show had consistently high rankings, keeping true to the original animated series in both the story and the spirit.
Over the course of the episodes, we’ve seen cameos of plenty of notable characters, and one notable Marvel mutant was missing, Deadpool. This was strange considering that he did appear in the original series briefly, and since he has a movie coming up, wouldn’t it make perfect sense to hype him up even more through the show?

That being said, one particular decision from the former showrunner DeMayo, who pretty much created this latest masterpiece before getting fired for reasons unknown, had the entire team sleepless at nights out of anxiety. This was because this decision included the brutal death of a fan-favorite mutant, and they weren’t sure how fans would take it after their initial reaction to the series.

X-Men '97 also just wrapped up its first season and, while that's expected to run for multiple seasons, what's the deal with What If...? and its place in the Multiverse Saga?
As we first reported on Toonado.com, ComicBook.com caught up with executive producer and Marvel Studios Head of TV, Streaming, and Animation Brad Winderbaum and learned that season 3 (which is expected to launch either later this year or early 2025) will likely be its last.
"What If...? season 3 is - that might be the one that comes out next, in terms of animation," he started. "That is the culmination of a trilogy. We're actually close to completing that one, and it really feels like you've gone...

This has resulted in fans making several casting suggestions and promoting various actors for different roles. And among the many actors being promoted by fans, Stranger Things star Sadie Sink has become a popular choice for Jean Grey. Yet not all Marvel fans agree on it and feel she might be too young to lead such a titular character.

Beau DeMayo has been at the center of media attention ever since X-Men ’97 started airing. While the show has been an absolute hit, many fans were confused when the executive producer was fired from his position eight days before the series aired. Such a drastic decision was quite surprising, as not only did he produce the series, but he was also the sole creator of it.
Beau DeMayo was an important part of X-Men ’97
Since the news hit the internet, many have been wondering if he will be coming back for the second season now that the first has concluded. While the writer has confirmed that he was a big part of the writing of season 2, his exit made his involvement quite hazy. However, a recent interview may have confirmed his standing with the franchise.

Spoiler Warning: This story discusses major plot developments across the entire first season of “X-Men ’97,” currently streaming on Disney+.
To say Marvel fans have enjoyed the first season “X-Men ’97” — the continuation of the beloved animated series from the 1990s, widely credited for laying the foundation for the explosion of superhero cinema in the 2000s and 2010s — is a bit like saying Wolverine has a bit of an anger issue. The show has enthralled viewers with a dizzying narrative tapestry that’s been unflinching in its capacity to make bold choices. First among them was Episode 5, “Remember It,” in which an army of robot Sentinels slaughters thousands of mutants who had been celebrating in their island nation of Genosha, a truly shocking development that vividly — and trenchantly — evokes similar tragedies, from 9/11 to the Pulse nightclub shooting to the attacks in Israel on Oct. 7 and the ongoing siege of Gaza in response.

Right before X-Men '97 launched on Disney+, the trades broke the news that Head Writer Beau DeMayo had been fired from the animated series.
Interviews with the press were cancelled at the last minute and no specific reason for his ousting was ever revealed from official (or unofficial) sources. Making it all the more surprising was the fact Marvel Studios had previously tapped DeMayo to contribute to projects such as Moon Knight and Blade.
Brad Winderbaum, the head of streaming, television, and animation at Marvel Studios, then shared something of a clarification by addressing the situation ahead of the two-episode premiere.
"I can't talk about the details," he admitted, "but I can say that Beau had real respect and passion for these characters and wrote what I think are excellent scripts that really the rest of the team were able to draw inspiration from [to] build this amazing show that's on screen.

Alongside the sharp direction from Mohamed Diab, Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead, Moon Knight stands out as one of the stronger MCU Disney+ shows. Depicting versatile actor Oscar Isaac in a fascinating dual-personality role juggling between two worlds of Marc Spector and Steven Grant, this series pulled the viewer’s heartstrings in six episodes. However, this compelling adventure has not been continued despite its massive success and eight Emmy nominations.

But fans who have grown attached to the Khonshu avatar are not willing to let go just yet. They are fervently calling for the renewal of the show, especially after witnessing Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye getting renewed for another season. It seems Kevin Feige, President of Marvel Studios may need to reconsider his decision regarding the show after seeing this.
