A follow-up to Leigh Whannell’s excellent 2020 take on The Invisible Man is happening, and talk of a Dark Universe revival is also underway…
Back in 2020 – just before the world ground to a halt because of the global pandemic – Universal released The Invisible Man, a gripping psychological thriller featuring Elisabeth Moss and directed by Leigh Whannell.
The film was a critical and commercial success, earning over $150m from a reported budget of just $7m (a return that would have been much higher had cinemas not locked down at the time).
In the wake of the film’s positive reception, Whannell was given a crack at The Wolfman, another Universal monster. He then lost that gig to Derek Cianfrance when Ryan Gosling came on board, but when Gosling later departed the project, so too did Cianfrance.
That meant the job went back to Whannell and the film is question is now titled Wolf Man.

Roger Dicken, the Oscar-nominated British special effects artist, sculptor and model maker known for his work on Alien and When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth, has died. He was 84.
Dicken died Feb. 18 at his home in North Wales, Mick Cooper, a friend of more than five decades, told The Hollywood Reporter.
On his first film, Dicken was a member of the effects team for Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968); later, he created and operated the dinosaur puppets seen in The Land That Time Forgot (1974).
Dicken sculpted several prehistoric creatures — plus a pair of full-sized pterodactyl feet — for the stop-motion adventure tale When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth (1970), written and directed by Val Guest for Hammer Films. He and American animator Jim Danforth shared the Oscar nomination for visual effects.

Back in March of this year the landmark 1943 film Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man (dir. Roy William Neill) made its debut. In honor of the film’s 80th birthday, let’s have some fun celebrating the first big screen monster bash.
The Universal Monsters, particularly the trifecta of Dracula, Frankenstein, and The Wolf Man, are some of the most recognizable icons in pop culture, let alone film.
The legacy of Universal’s horror output from the 1930s and 40s has reached every corner of the zeitgeist. The visage of Bela Lugosi’s Dracula, Boris Karloff’s Monster, and Lon Chaney Jr’s Wolf Man have reached a point of cultural saturation that few fictional characters ever reach.
One of the most remembered films from this cycle is of course, Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man. It’s hardly a new or astute observation to connect today’s mega blockbuster shared universe...

Dracula has made his way from the novel to the big screen, and it gives us chills to watch this horrendous persona in theatres, but ‘Renfield’ is an exception. Directed by Chris McKay, who is famous for ‘The Lego Movie’, ‘The Lego Batman Movie’, and ‘The Tomorrow War’, and with a cast that boasts Nicolas Cage, Nicholas Hoult, Brandon Scott Jones, and Ben Schwartz, ‘Renfield’ seems worth the hype it has created. Here are 5 reasons why you shouldn’t miss this movie:
Nicolas Cage as Dracula would be enough to make any movie a must-see! Hell Yes!
Watching Nicolas Cage as Dracula on the Big screen is the type of entertainment that you cannot miss. “Some call me The Dark One. Others, the Lord of Death. To most, I am Dracula,” he growls as he makes his dramatic entrance. It almost feels like he was Born to play this role.

Fall is upon us, and that brings the changing of the leaves, apple cider, and of course, scary movies. Seeing scary movies when you’re a little kid is the best. Really wanting to see what all the bigger kids are seeing but also being scared of what you just saw. It’s a magical time to be alive. With Hocus Pocus 2 about to hit Disney+, now is a great time to run down the best kid’s films for Halloween. These are guaranteed to frighten your little ones but not leave you unable to sleep after they crawl into your bed at night.
Honorable Mention: The Monster Squad (1987)
While this film was a mainstay of my childhood, if you look at it today, some of the language hasn’t aged very well. I still love this film as I can look past its flaws and remember...
