In case you haven't heard, Eighth Grade is one of the best films of 2018. This video won't do much to convince you of that, as it's merely an incredibly trippy video released by Bo Burnham in order to promote his film. The video uses scenes from the film, but recreates them in the style of Lisa Frank artwork or emojis and it's really trippy.
Even if you aren't crazy about this video though, you should check out Eighth Grade if only to remind yourself just how painful the middle school experience can be, and how much harder it would be in an age of social media:...

This is what you get what you rile the New York-based Satanic Temple -- a beautiful statue honoring the sweet lord of the underworld. Hail, art! Let me explain: The Satanic Temple raised money to build this statue after a legislator installed a Ten Commandments statue in the Oklahoma Capitol two years ago. It seemed like a lark contrarian enterprise for a bit, but the effort has garnered $30,000 in donations. Apparently 30k is enough to hire a real sculptor, because what you're seeing is an actual mold of Satan that will soon be bronzed. Inspiring! Sister Wendy chafes in agony. The plan is to legally install the Satanic tribute at the capitol, but apparently the state stopped licensing statehouse installations when the Satan superfans' efforts gained traction. Yes, an Aclu lawsuit on their behalf is pending. Isn't this fun? Anyway, let's talk about the Satan art. Some observations: 1. "Unicorn" is what I'm getting from this.

If you grew up even tangentially in the 80s, 'Jem and the Holograms' were on your radar with their earworm of an opening theme song. Every week Jerrica and company thwarted greedy corporate thugs and rival bands with the help of a hologram-projecting sentient computer known as Synergy. It was the kind of insane logic that would only work in Saturday morning cartoon form...until now. Recently it was announce a live-action reboot of 'Jem and the Holograms' was fast tracked. And today everyone got their first glimpse of Jem, Kimber, Aja, and Shana. Looks like they'll keep the charming Lisa Frank and David Bowie's illegitimate love child style aesthetic much to this editor's delight. If so, I triple-dog dare the costume design department to bust out these flawless fashion choices from the show. Shana's geometric mullet muumuu. First there was the mullet skirt and it's sister,...

If you ever had a Trapper Keeper and a vivid imagination, your childhood was likely adorned with the iconic visuals of a rainbow art wizard named Lisa Frank. No nineties nostalgia-fest would be complete without mentioning her fantastical illustrations where tropical teddy bears don tuxedos and pastel dolphins contort their bodies into hearts.

We dare you to get through this list without falling in love with Mila Kunis. 1. She was in a Lisa Frank commercial in the early '90s. 2. She isn't afraid to get her Pda on with boyfriend Ashton Kutcher. 3. She speaks fluent Russian. A power she uses for good and not evil. Like defending Justin Timberlake against reporters in Moscow. 4. But she still thinks Russian sounds like Klingon. 5. Because she's adorable being interviewed by awkward interviewers. 6. She likes crêpes. Like, a lot, it seems. 7. She voices Meg on Family Guy. 8. No really, she's the voice of Meg. And she loves it. 9. She makes for...

Few screenwriters in Hollywood have a capital-vee Voice as identifiable and memorable as Diablo Cody's.
The scribe won an Academy Award for "Juno," then went on to create Showtime series "United States of Tara" for Steven Spielberg, pen cult-classic horror tale "Jennifer's Body," and write Charlize Theron-starrer "Young Adult" -- yet another wonderfully Oscar bait-y (if far darker) script for her "Juno" director Jason Reitman.
Cody has since gotten a chance to direct one of her own chatty, snappy, inventive scripts in the somewhat anonymously-titled "Paradise," and now you can watch the trailer. Honest to blog.
Open narration that includes the phrase "here's me after I was barbequed in jet fuel" is a good tip-off that you're in Cody-land. "Paradise" is about a virtuous young woman (Julianne Hough), who, after surviving a horrifying plane crash, decides to take the money she's gotten from the airline and go to Las Vegas.

It's been more than a decade since the 1990s ended, yet the Internet can't seem to go a day without a reminder of the neon slap bracelets that may have been banned from your school.

Considering that we live in a world that has multiple animated Smurfs movies, it’s not shocking that DreamWorks Animation is reportedly setting up a sequel to their own unexpected hit The Croods. The recent riff on cavemen, evolution, and the progression of historial eras (fun!) has banked a solid $385m for DreamWorks and Fox and, still better, it’s actually not a bad family film. Deadline Hollywood reports that the studio is “expected to announce” a sequel, and with Fox’s Cinema Con panel scheduled for Thursday, this week is certainly looking like a good time to do so. Evolution is cool again, you guys. With voice talent from Nicolas Cage, Emma Stone, Ryan Reynolds, Catherine Keener, Clark Duke, and Cloris Leachman, the animated adventure centers on the world’s first family unit as they attempt to survive a changing world around them. Filled with actually funny lines and classic comedic gags, fantastic...

Why do we feel like we wore this exact same outfit to Stacey Smith's 10th birthday party? Hey, maybe Rita Ora is recycling the oversized tee from her own middle school sleepover days. Then again, the giant skull print with gold chain detail is a little wild for a preteen's taste (Lisa Frank would not approve!) and those thigh high suede boots are a far cry from slippers. We'll just assume the songstress went for maximum comfort in preparation for the all-nighter she planned to pull in Vegas. In a way, that's sort of like one giant adult slumber party.

We haven’t covered “Gone Home” here at MTV yet, but a new trailer featuring the dulcet tones of early-90’s Bratmobile seems like as good an angle as any.
“Gone Home” is an exploration game about the Greenbriar family, set in rural Oregon in 1995. Katie comes home from a trip abroad to find out that her entire family -- Mom, Dad, and sister Samantha -- have disappeared. As I understand it, the entire game takes place in the Greenbriar’s somewhat expansive home and follows Katie as she pokes through her family’s life to figure out what happened to them.
It seems very point-and-clicky, but a point-and-click in which puzzles have been replaced by little nostalgic narrative touches and exploration, and authenticity -- the music, the X-Files tapes, the Secret Image puzzle (spoiler: it’s a shark), the Lisa Frank-esque Trapper Keeper with the...

Having showcased her talents on TV, in film and as a voice actress, Mila Kunis has already shown she has many strings to her brilliantly gifted bow. Not only is she talented, she is also drop-dead-gorgeous and was named Esquire magazine's 'Sexiest Woman Alive' 2012.
Last week the actress added 'all-round nice person' to her credentials and gave us even more reason to love her, when she gave an unusual but entertaining interview for her new film Oz the Great and Powerful with Radio 1. Bored with standard interviews, she chatted to a very nervous Chris Stark about Jägerbombs and playfully agreed to go to Nandos with him, followed by a Watford football match.
Here are ten things you may not have known about the soon-to-be chicken-eating, footie fan.
1.Milena Markovna Kunis was born in Ukraine on August 14, 1983. She moved to Los Angeles when she was 7 with her parents and older brother Michael.

March usually comes in like a lion or a lamb. This year it blew in shrieking like a Bieber-crazed junior high girl. Movie news seemed to be steeped in love this past week. But it wasn't the kind of romance that's written about in 16th century literature; it was more the kind that's etched into Trapper Keepers with Wite-Out during study hall.
Yep, between a major Mila Kunis crush and a kiss-and-tell involving Oprah, the last seven days were all about puppy love. Here's how it went down:
» The week kicked off with a Mila Kunis interview that veered from her film "Oz The Great and Powerful" (opening today) to talk of "Baywatch," yager bombs and dropping trow at weddings. During a press junket for the film, the actress helped quell the nerves of a jittery British journalist by making small talk. Eventually the endearing reporter (who...

The star looked seriously stylish in her sexy, strapless gown — and you can check out her latest glam premiere look right here!
Mila Kunis looked like a gorgeous screen siren at the Oz The Great and Powerful premiere in Russia on Feb. 27, where the star exuded Hollywood glamour in a strapless plum, custom-made Atelier Versace dress that put her figure on full display. The 29-year-old looked sultry in the gown, and the color was a great choice against her complexion.
With a thigh-high slit on one side, the star showed some skin in the feminine frock while still looking totally tasteful when she walked the red carpet with her co-stars, (the recently single Michelle Williams and James Franco). Pointy nude pumps, a cocktail ring and a thin gold bangle finished off the stellar look. Mila’s get-up defines sexy chic — and her beauty look really complimented her premiere perfect ensemble!

You may have heard that Sunday's Oscars was the worst ceremony in Academy history. I bet you also heard it was the best ceremony in Academy history. Get this: Neither is true! The Oscars were perfectly Oscar-y on Sunday, not dreadful or miraculous almost ever. Except for when host Seth MacFarlane stepped up to the dais. Oh God, guys. I don't watch his cartoon, The Hilariously Funny Family Guy Variety Hour or whatever it's called, but rest assured I won't be tuning in any time soon. We'll get to that in a bit.
Let's start with uplifting award handouts: I mostly applauded the night's winners, including the first honoree, the sexy, angular, tantalizingly clean-shaven Christoph Waltz. No doubt about it, the sinister gent is a talented looker. I have dreams where he stares at me like a cruel headmaster and I fall to the ground in sexual hysteria.

One of the most charming moments of last night’s SAG awards was Jennifer Lawrence’s Best Actress acceptance speech, where she thanked MTV for allowing her to get her SAG card by casting her in a My Super Sweet 16 promo years ago.
Lawrence is far from the first now-a-lister who had to pay the bills back in the day. We rounded up some of our favorite commercials from stars who probably wish that the ubiquity of YouTube didn’t make these long-in-the-past acting jobs quite so easy to find.

I can't think of anything I'd rather do less than watch The Hobbit. Haven't we put Peter Jackson's six-hour Crayola still-lifes behind us yet? These movies look like Lisa Frank folders come to life, and if Peter's not going to include magenta unicorns and rainbow clouds in his adventures, he doesn't care about anyone having a good time.
Meanwhile his star Cate Blanchett, which is Latin for "cheekbones of corundum," is a damn treasure. I personally can't think of anything more tiring or mind-numbing than the Twilight phenomenon. But guess what? It's over! The last movie premiered, made one trillion dollars, and nothing can compromise the fact that it's over. Stephenie is over. The special effects stolen from an episode of Nickelodeon's Animorphs are over. It's all over. Now I saw we tie up this series with a bow and send it into the deep, deep past.
But before we do, let's come up with a bunch of ways to remember this series for what it was: a chintzy, yet extravagant mess. Here are 10 images that conjure the essence of The Twilight Saga. Please contribute your own.
1. 738 minutes of Rob Pattinson shivering
2. A tribute to the enduring melodrama of Caucasians
3. A PSA in support of pale, mouth-breathing females
4. A series of dimly lit Lisa Frank folders
5. A hideous wig show directed by Christopher Nolan.

It's been a big week for seapunks. Their young, underwater-themed movement was thrust into the spotlight after two big performers debuted suspiciously seapunky acts over the weekend without crediting the movement's originators.
Rihanna's green-screened Saturday Night Live performance of "Diamonds," and Azealia Banks' "Atlantis" music video, which dropped a day later, are below. Both videos take freely from the Lisa Frank aesthetic of seapunk, a web-based art genre that was formed after someone tweeted about a dream he had concerning a leather jacket with barnacles as studs. Since then, seapunks have become a legitimate niche culture. Rihanna and Banks have both loosely linked themselves to the aesthetic simply by wearing turquoise, or in Banks' case, comparing herself to a mermaid. But they're famous, and therefore, not allowed in the club.
So what to make of these videos? Tell us you're not seeing more fake dolphins than is standard.

Azealia Banks is really leaning into her Fantasea mixtape's aquatic theme. In addition to the under-the-sea tendencies, the new clip for "Atlantis" looks like it was commissioned by a think-tank of Redditors high on some interstellar prodigy of Lisa Frank. Not sure if the choice moment is plural Azealias dancing in plural sharks' mouths, Azealia wearing smiley-faces-with-peace-sign-eyes shades, or the way she cops an earring-slash-nose ring that guy Xerxes from 300 would blush at. Have fun and take breaks every fifteen seconds or as required.

Drew Daywalt’s latest short is a clever take on a creature feature.
Written and directed by Daywalt and starring Aj Bowen and Ed Ackerman, Meat follows two hunters who hit an unknown creature and are forced to put it out of its misery. But like any hunter worth their weight in venison, they don’t want to waste a good piece of fresh meat. Even if it is a very magical piece of meat.

Not to spoil the third act of this video (by which we mean that we are about to spoil the third act of this video), but special to Nicki Minaj: hair salons will catch flame if you point a blowtorch directly at them. Especially when those hair salons are decorated in all-pink, surely flammable objects from the Lisa Frank Outlet Factory. To be fair, the décor is pretty standard for Nicki, as is the decision to run around half-naked and drape herself over offbeat racing vehicles (please see also: the ice motorcycle from "Super Bass"). "I'll never forget the day I got stuck on Lisa Frank," she says. "The stickers were so cool! The colors were awesome. So I go to the store. And wow! There's tons of awesome Lisa Frank stuff. I gotta have it, what more can I say?"
Check out the Urban Outfitters video below for a history of the Lisa Frank brand below, as well as Kunis' appearance at the 2:55 mark.

Come on girls (and guys), you know you've always been sentimental about your Lisa Frank collection. Heck, when you were younger you probably didn't even know that Frank was real. From stickers to diaries, folders, binders, beach towels, and beads, the creative and imaginative Frank has been a part of many childhoods. After several years of keeping mum, the creator is now opening up for an ad in a very rare interview at her headquarters in Tuscon, Arizona. Though now speaking out thanks to Urban Outfitters (who produced the footage), Frank still decided on covering her face for privacy.
"When I was little, I was totally a girly girl. And I was a huge colorer. Huge! To keep me quiet, [my parents] bought the coloring books and the crayons and I would fill up the books and they'd have to buy me another one," she began.

Last year, Bay Area rapper Kreayshawn went viral after releasing her song, "Gucci Gucci." This year, we have Kitty Pryde.
Talking her stage name from a popular X-Men character, Kitty Pryde is a teenage rapper from Daytona Beach, Fla., and she recently released her Ep -- ironically titled The Lizzie McGuire Experience, which apparently features a non-ironic tribute song to Justin Bieber. Now, Kitty Pryde is going viral with her new song, "Okay Cupid," which is named after the popular dating site OkCupid.
The sleepy-voiced rapper rhymes about cute boys, sexting, drinking Bud Light Lime, and doodling on her binder. "Lordy, shorty you’re a ten / And I wait for your drunk dials at 3:30 a.m. / I love them.”
In the lo-fi video, Kitty Pryde goes to a hipster garage sale, hangs out in a driveway with her hipster friends, surfs the web on her hipster MacBook (which is...

J-14, Teen Beat, Tiger Beat, Bop. If you were a pre-teen girl in the ‘90s, you probably recognize the names of these teeny bopper magazines. You also may have plastered your walls with their glossy pullouts, printed with uber-cheesy photos of teen idols (don't miss TresSugar’s extensive collection).
James Van Der Beek (a.k.a. During the first episode he brings a girl back to his apartment, only to have her start playing “I Don’t Want to Wait.” It was hard to watch without getting a serious pang of ‘90s nostalgia: Beanie Babies! Smash S01E06: "Chemistry"

Jennifer Love Hewitt is trying too hard. We admit that this wasn’t our first thought when we saw her looking hotter than ever on the April cover of Maxim. Our teenage crush is most certainly alive and well. But what bummed us out was her interview within, where the former Ghost Whisperer works so desperately hard to convince us she’s a naughty girl.
This actually is nothing new for the actress, who turned 33 last month. She’s playing a housewife-turned-prostitute in the new Lifetime series, The Client List (premiering next month), which she describes as “a lingerie-heavy show every episode.” Jennifer admits to taking her style cues from Victoria’s Secret Angles, which she views as “gorgeous glamor heroes.” It’s a far cry from her days emulating Audrey Hepburn as a style icon. We’re not sure if this is all a conscious effort to change her...

Katy Perry transforms into a beautiful mermaid to promote a hairdryer. The "E.T." hitmaker rocks a skin-tight mermaid outfit, which has multicolored tail made up of thousands of Swaroski crystals. She is seen leaning against a wooden log while letting her pink-lavender hair blows in the wind.
Katy enjoyed dolling up as a mermaid for the new campaign which was shot for Ghd. "I love it because I'm such a fan of the Disney movies. Ariel is such a big influence. It's always fun to dress up once in your lifetime as a mermaid and have that fish fin tail," she said.
"It was fun-i got to have purple hair which foreshadowed the real purple hair I had last fall," Katy said before adding, "It's as if Lisa Frank had done 'The Little Mermaid (1989)'." The 27-year-old chart-topping singer additionally praised the photographer, "Dave Lachappelle made the set amazing."...

The strange thing is, this look isn't too far off from something Katy would wear on stage at one of her concerts! Katy Perry played characters from Snow White for a past ghd hair care ad, but to represent the brand new ghd blow dryer, she is a gorgeous mermaid. "It was fun -- I got to have purple hair which foreshadowed the real purple hair I had last fall. It's as if Lisa Frank had done The Little Mermaid," Katy tells Yahoo Lifestyle. This is a first for ghd. Not only did they get Katy to add a flipper to her costume regime, but this is actually the only hair dryer the brand has ever created. Pick it up at the beginning of March at ghd.com. Eden Univer [polldaddy poll=5905934]...

I had the pleasure of sitting down with Adam Lambert earlier this week in Los Angeles, where we chatted about the usual: his new album, Trespassing, it’s awesome first single, “Better Than I Know Myself,” and our mutual obsession with The Hunger Games. Yes, in addition to being handsome and talented, Adam is also a total Ya nerd. Stars are just like us, guys!
Adam had no idea that he was a fan favorite to plan Cinna back before the movie was cast. “I definitely identified with the character when I read the books,” he told us. “I think Lenny Kravitz is gonna be rad.”
When we pressed him on his allegiance to Team Gale or Team Peeta, Adam admitted, “I didn’t know there were teams!” He added, “I think the thing that was really clever about the books is that, much like Twilight,...

What can I say about Adam Lambert that you don’t already know? He is absolutely delightful, fun to talk to, and is wonderfully humble despite being mega-talented. I arrived at our interview in Beverly Hills this week to find Adam decked out in an all-black ensemble, the only color popping from his bright blue shoes. The singer, whose new album Trespassing drops mid-March, is well known for his eccentric fashion taste, but I couldn’t help but notice that his outfit was a bit on the subdued side. Naturally, I had to ask about his current sartorial mood.
“I think what you’re drawn to fashion-wise has to do with where you are emotionally and what you’re exploring in your life,” said Adam. “I think there was a point where, two years ago, in the middle of my first album, where it was all so ridiculous.

Like you, I predicted most of this morning's Oscar nominees -- but that doesn't mean I'm too proud to spew a little bile. Here are my five nominees for "Most Annoying Nominee." Maybe I'll get Roberto Benigni to unveil the winner and spray him/her with seltzer later next month.
1. Rooney Mara in The Girl I Ignore at the Dmv
Forget that The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo is just a PBS Masterpiece whodunit disguised with Nordic permafrost and Hot Topic gift cards. Focus on the more obvious weirdness: Rooney Mara’s performance as the titular inkee adds no depth or urgency to Stieg Larsson’s flatly rendered savant. She adds facial symmetry, which is appreciated, but I came away from David Fincher’s pretty hate machine wondering how people like my parents devoured Lisbeth Salander’s boring vindictive streak for three straight tomes. There’s no there there! Just costuming,...

We imagine being the face of Marc by Marc Jacobs would make it easy to forget that you haven’t even finished puberty yet. That’s why we were filled with such sparkly Lisa Frank feelings at the sight of Elle Fanning looking refreshingly junior high on at a friend’s house in Studio City, California. Torn jeans, bright white sneakers and a pillow? That’s practically the national sleep over uniform! We hope Elle enjoys her much-needed break from the demands of couture by taking part in the hollowed traditions of girlhood: eating way too many Cool Ranch Doritos, hiding the Ouija board under the couch in mute terror, and understanding only half of every Sex and the City episode.

Before "The X Factor" starts, Steve of course has to check in with Nicole, who is still getting booed by the audience. Heh. She's also wearing some kind of Lisa Frank-inspired lace top and spouting off things like "God is good."
That won't make anyone like you more after you couldn't sack up and send Marcus home last week, Nicole.
Anyway. The first song is the Pepsi Challenge viewers' choice song. Clearly the viewers are stuck in 1997.
1. Marcus Canty, "I'll Make Love to You"
Kinda racy for a Fox singing competition show. Also, not as good done as one part instead of four. And he's wandering around with a single white rose as one girl writhes aroudn on stage in the background. Seriously, this all smacks of a bad early 90s music video. And the ending is really weird. Vocally, it was fine, but I was way too distracted by all the strange trimmings.

Children of the '90s have yet another reason to feel nostalgic.
Apparently, Lisa Frank -- yes, she of the neon-colored, animal-filled designs that adorned Trapper Keepers across America at the end of the 20th century -- has launched a clothing line.
Obviously, the designs are filled with bright colors, pandas, dolphins, puppies, hearts, and other assorted adorable things. And obviously, we want So Many of the things. Though the dolphin T-shirt and kitten-adorned polar fleece are amazing, we particularly covet the Lisa Frank logo sweatshirt. What we wouldn't have given to sport that baby in 1994! Instead, we'll have to make do realizing our dreams almost two decades later.
The fun is not just for nostalgic grown-ups, either -- there are plenty of kid-sized items for sale. If you spend more than $50, you get six free holiday pencils with toppers. Basically, this will be the best Christmas ever (at least...

If you're still mourning your bright trapper keeper, you can fill the void with clothing that's just as bright! If you thought Lisa Frank and her colored dolphins was a thing of the '90s you're totally wrong -- in fact, the woman who was behind the bold school gear from my favorite decade is back in a big way! What better place to show your affinity for colored teddybears in top hats than on your chest? On the Lisa Frank site, there's an array of apparel for both adults and children -- and you don't have to splurge to take home a unicorn tee! With most items priced in the $20-$30 range, these items would make the perfect present for the '90s enthusiast in your life -- (hint, hint)!
