Chicago Med hiatus: When does the show return and what should fans expect from the next new episode?
Chicago Med is still on an extended spring hiatus as the show takes a break before racing toward the season finale.
Some fans may already be upset that the One Chicago shows have taken such a long break during April, but new episodes are on the horizon.
As a reminder, two Hollywood strikes paused the production of the NBC dramas. It delayed the new seasons from premiering for many months.
When the shows finally returned in January, Chicago Med fans were reminded that Dr. Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) had left the show.
Dr. Halstead’s final episode was the Season 8 finale, where he quit working at the hospital and traveled to Seattle. When he got off the plane, he was greeted by Dr. Natalie Manning (Torrey DeVitto) and her daughter.
Several new doctors have joined the fold on the Chicago Med cast this season, adding some freshness to the show.

With Netflix’s The Sandman hitting the streaming service, fans can take a trip in the mystical and often surreal world of dreams. Comic fans have long heralded Neil Gaiman’s story arc as one of the greatest stories told not just in graphic novels but in all literature. His run of comics is often discussed in the same reverence as such titles as Watchmen or The Dark Knight Returns.
Fans were wondering if it would ever get turned into a live-action project that would be treated with the respect and budget it deserved. Netflix was happy to step up to the plate and make it happen. The ten-episode series has captured fans’ imaginations, and they are eager to hear about a second season. The whole series is filled with all sorts of Sandman easter eggs for comics fans and references you may not be expecting.

Exclusive: Lifetime has rounded out cast for both installments of Toni Braxton’s Fallen Angels Murder Club, and Angie Harmon’s Barstow (working title) movies. The movies fall under previously signed deals with Braxton and Harmon, in which they will star in and executive produce multiple films for Lifetime.
Eddie Cibrian has joined the first installment of Braxton’s Fallen Angels, while Kelly Hu joins the cast of the second film. Both films are based on the Hollis Morgan mystery book series by author R. Franklin James.
Cibrian stars as Avery Mitchell, Hollis Morgan’s (Braxton) charismatic boss, while Hu will make her debut in the second installment as the mysterious Joelle. Both productions have started filming and will premiere in 2022. Additionally, Harmon’s Barstow (working title) movies has added Kristoffer Polaha as Elliot, a mysterious stranger with a troubling past.
In the first installment of Fallen Angels Murder Club (wt), members of the Club must have two things in common – a love for books and have a criminal record. Hollis Morgan (Braxton) meets both requirements. Left holding the bag in an insurance fraud scheme concocted by her ex-husband, Hollis served her time and now hopes the court will pardon her conviction so she can return to law school and fulfill her dream of becoming a lawyer. But when a member of her book club is murdered in a scene straight out of the previous night’s novel, Hollis once again becomes the subject of police scrutiny. Refusing to get stuck with another bad rap, Hollis sets out to investigate her fellow club members and after a second book-inspired murder, she races to identify the killer before she becomes the next victim.
Cast also includes Keith D. Robinson, Lisa Berry, Yanic Truesdale (Gilmore Girls), Kaitlyn Leeb (Spinning Out), Humberly Gonzalez (Ginny & Georgia), Rainbow Sun Francks (Umbrella Academy), Henderson Wade, Rob Stewart, Raoul Bhaneja and Shawn Ahmed.
The Fallen Angels Murder Club films fall in line with Lifetime’s Broader Focus initiative which supports the hiring of women in key production roles. The movies are produced for Lifetime by Brain Power Studio and executive produced by Beth Stevenson, Nancy Yeaman, Toni Braxton and Rhonda Baraka. The films are written and directed by Baraka.
In Barstow (wt),Harmon stars as Hazel King, a single mother determined to shield her daughter from the life she once had while protecting and defending those who can’t protect themselves. Plucked off the streets of Las Vegas at 15, Hazel was trained as a hit woman until a surprisng pregnancy drives her to leave it all behind. Living as a single mother running a diner in Barstow with her teenage daughter, Hazel’s past eventually catches up with her and she’s pulled back in for one more hit.
Additional cast include Lauren Richards, George Paez, Tim Granaderos, Gabriel Rodriguez, Casey Mills, Ben Cain, Anthony Reynolds and Nelson Bonilla.
The Barstow movies are produced for Lifetime by Untitled Entertainment and executive produced by Angie Harmon, Michael Rosenberg, Laura Notarianni, Stan Spry and Eric Scott Woods. The first film is written by Tom Evans and directed by Howie Deutch.

Due to The CW's regular shows being delayed by the pandemic, the smallest network has decided to license and air preexisting series. Swamp Thing originated on the DC Universe streaming service and was cancelled after one season. While airing episodes on The CW seems unlikely to spawn a second season renewal at this point, perhaps the characters' story could continue in some way. After all, John Constantine (another DC Comics character) found new life on CW's Arrow and DC's Legends of Tomorrow after Constantine was cancelled by NBC. Could something like that happen again? Stay tuned.

The CW is adding some more shows to its scripted slate ahead of Thursday's fall schedule reveal.
DC Universe's one-and-done Swamp Thing, Serinda Swan's Coroner, and UK comedy, Dead Pixels.

With Tell Me a Story, the series was also canceled today, so it's not yet clear what made the network pull the trigger on a pickup.
It's possible that the fee to air the show dropped considerably with the cancellation.

The CW has acquired former DC Universe series Swamp Thing, based on the DC character, along with Canadian drama Coroner and half-hour British comedy Dead Pixels, from BBC Studios, in their U.S. debuts. All will premiere on broadcast and the network’s free ad-supported streaming platforms. They join previously announced Tell Me A Story, from CBS All Access. Premiere dates and times will be announced later.
The CW is known for using acquired scripted series as summer programming. This year is different as there is a lot of uncertainty over when TV series will be able to go into production amid the coronavirus pandemic, so it is possible that the CW would use some of the acquisitions for late summer or fall to give its originals more time to produce new episodes. The CW is expected to unveil its fall schedule on Thursday.

With many broadcast shows in disarray as a result of the coronavirus production shutdown, a trend is emerging of networks turning to streamers and international waters for content to fill their schedule.
Only hours after Fox announced it will air season 1 of the Spectrum series “L.A.’s Finest” this fall, the CW has gone three better by acquiring the broadcast rights to four different series, among them “Swamp Thing” from DC Universe and “Tell Me a Story” from CBS All Access.
In additional news, the Kevin Williamson-created anthology thriller has been canceled by All Access, Variety has confirmed, meaning that the show will end at two seasons, both of which will be heading to CW for a second-window run and will remain available to stream on All Access.
The other two shows that CW has picked up are “Coroner” (two seasons) and “Dead Pixels” (one season), which hail from Canada and the U.

I was just the right age for Swamp Thing when he shambled into comics back in the early 1970s. I had years of super-heroes committed to memory so I was primed for something different. Along came Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson’s creation and it dealt nicely with familiar horror tropes but with enough of a twist to feel different along with continuing characters and exquisite artwork.
The arrival of Swamp Thing on DC Universe was equally well-timed in that we’ve had plenty of super-hero films and live-action television so it was a welcome addition to their initial lineup. Then came the news that there was trouble on the set, the series order was cut, then canceled after one ten-episode season. We were left with plenty of unfulfilled potential.
For those who missed out on the show, Warner Home Entertainment has released Swamp Thing the Complete Series in a fine Blu-ray package.

Swamp Thing Episode 2
It’s weird being in the midst of an episode review for a show when you find out the whole thing has been canceled. But it’s especially disappointing when the episode you’re writing about is so damn good. Such is the case for “Worlds Apart,” the excellent second hour of the just-canceled Swamp Thing on the DC Universe streaming platform.
Following an impressive premiere, the new episode – directed by executive producer, and Underworld master Len Wiseman -- delivers more horror, some gore, and satisfying swamp monster hero action while setting up a supernatural element.
The action picks up after the events of the pilot episode that had Alec Holland (Andy Bean) blown up and transformed by the swamp into the titular monster (Derek Mears...

Only one episode into its first season, Swamp Thing has been canceled by the streaming service DC Universe.
Multiple outlets, including Deadline and Entertainment Weekly, report that DC Universe has decided not to move forward with Swamp Thing, which premiered on the streaming service on Friday, May 31st.
Warner Bros. has not officially commented on the cancellation, but Deadline reports that the streaming service is being "reevaluated" following the "At&T acquisition of Time Warner."
Back in April, StarNews reported that the show's previously planned 13-episode first season had been cut down to 10.
At this point, it looks like a new episode of Swamp Thing will continue to be released every Friday until this season comes to an end. Time will tell if the series can find a home at a different streaming service or network, and we'll keep Daily Dead readers updated as more details are revealed.

The DC digital service, DC Universe, will not be picking up a second season of Swamp Thing, its drama series based on the DC characters created by Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson, according to sources. The series, which premiered on May 31, hailed from James Wan’s Atomic Monster in association with Warner Bros. Television.
Like every other initiative, DC Universe is being reevaluated following the completion of At&T acquisition of Time Warner as WarnerMedia has put an emphasis on the launch of a new streaming platform. There have been questions how DC Universe fits into those plans.
There already had been chatter that new leadership of WarnerMedia was not particularly high on Swamp Thing whose order was reduced from 13 to 10 episodes in April. The cancellation comes just one episode into the show’s run.

Is this a DC Universe show?
That was my first thought as I watched the final trailer for Swamp Thing, the latest live-action drama to launch on the superhero-oriented streaming service.
Swamp Thing "follows Abby Arcane as she investigates what seems to be a deadly swamp-born virus in a small town in Louisiana but soon discovers that the swamp holds mystical and terrifying secrets," according to the show's official logline.

It looks like there could be trouble ahead for DC Universe and new drama Swamp Thing.
According to StarNews Online, Swamp Thing will end production earlier than originally planned, with the aim of completing ten episodes instead of the previously announced 13.
The order allegedly came from producers, Warner Bros., who are allegedly questioning the future of DC Universe as a whole.
The streaming service launched last fall, and Swamp Thing was poised to be its third live-action series, coming in behind Titans and Doom Patrol.
Swamp Things actress, Virginia Madsen appeared to confirm the news in a since-deleted Instagram post.
"I'm beyond sad," the actress said in the post.
"What a terrible decision. We have been cut to the core by those who have never set foot into the Swamp," she continued.
