CBS chairman-ceo Leslie Moonves was the subject of another New Yorker expose that included new allegations of sexual misconduct from six more women Sunday.
Moonves is expected to exit CBS Monday, though whether he will be fired or be allowed to step down remains to be seen. Reports indicate he has been in negotiations for a severance package for the past several days, with some sources saying the amount could near $100 million.
The industry, which was already rocked by the first report in July, reacted with frustration and disgust, asserting that Moonves should not be allowed to receive a payout as part of his departure agreement.
Time’s Up released a statement slamming CBS for a “culture of toxic complicity” at the company, and insisted that it will “accept nothing less than full transparency of the investigation’s findings, a commitment to real change across all levels of CBS management...

Since the sexual misconduct allegations against Harvey Weinstein first came to light, it has opened the floodgates in Hollywood for further allegations against those working in the film industry. Just some of those in the industry with allegations made against them include Brett Ratner, Kevin Spacey, Charlie Rose, Murray Miller, Eddie Berganza, Mark Schwahn, and James Franco. Now, the latest celebrity to face similar allegations is Michael Douglas. The thing that is unusual in the case of Michael Douglas is how he has handled the situation. In most instances, an allegation against someone in the film industry has gone public

DC Comics has fired longtime editor Eddie Berzanga following claims of sexual assault by three former employees. “Warner Bros and DC Entertainment have terminated the employment of DC Comics Group Editor Eddie Berganza,” DC Entertainment said in a statement obtained by TheWrap. “We are committed to eradicating harassment and ensuring that all employees, as well as our freelance community, are aware of our policies, are comfortable reporting any concerns and feel supported by our Company.” In a report by Buzzfeed last week, at least three women have come forward accusing longtime DC editor Eddie Berzanga of trying to forcibly kiss or.

Multiple ex-employees of DC are publicly accusing veteran editor Eddie Berganza of sexual assault.
Three women, two on the record and one unnamed, shared allegations in a BuzzFeed story published Friday in which they described instances of Berganza forcibly kissing or groping them. Rumors of misconduct had long followed Berganza, who has been with the company since the 1990s.
Liz Gehrlein Marsham was 29 in 2006, when she said Berganza kissed and groped her, three weeks into her new job at DC. The alleged incident occurred at a bar in New York called McGee's, where DC employees often hung out....

I started writing a weekly column here at ComicMix a year ago today. The past year I’ve given my thoughts on a number of issues focusing in particular on diversity in comics. Those issues have often involved Lgbtq representation. I’m going use this column to highlight some of the topics I’ve covered, see if anything has changed or if any predictions I had made turned out to be true and maybe add in an anecdote or two.
The second column I wrote for ComicMix was about Coagula, DC Comics first and only trans superhero. A lot has happened this past year as far as Coagula is concerned. She went from being an obscure character created by Rachel Pollack from a still uncollected run of Doom Patrol, a long cancelled series with seemingly little hope of being brought back as a monthly comic to being the flagship title...

Last week DC Comics and Idw announced will join together to publish a 144 page graphic novel titled Love Is Love to raise money for Equality Florida to help the victims of the Pulse Nightclub shooting in Orlando, Fl on June 12th. This groundbreaking venture between two comic book publishers and a nonprofit was organized by writer Marc Andreyko and will be retailing for $9.99.
Let’s let that one sink in. This is an important moment in comics history. Of all the causes over the years that comics have tried to benefit, this is the first time that mainstream comics publishers have stepped up to benefit members of the Lgbt community in need. This is also the second time an anthology has come out to benefit victims of the Pulse Nightclub shooting as Margins Publishing put out two issues of a digital zine titled Our Hearts Still Beat where 100% of the...

Once again I’m going to talk about the sexism in the comic book industry. Yeah, I’m kind of sick of it, too. However, this week, in a wave of optimism, I’m going to suggest a solution!
The subject is in the news once again because DC Entertainment finally issued a statement about the continuing charges that members of its editorial staff engage in sexual harassment.
As far as I know, there are no new charges this week. Instead, the pressure of fan reaction online and in the press must have finally reached the attention of someone at Warner Bros. corporate HQ, and the issue could no longer be ignored. It’s obvious that DC would like this to be ignored, and as evidence, I offer the fact that they released their statement on Friday afternoon, a time well known to publicists as a dumping ground because journalists,...

This has been a week of heart-breaking news, at least for me. No, nobody I know died (at least as of my deadline), but I hate all the stories coming out of DC Entertainment. No more Shelly Bond? Are they crazy? And Eddie Berganza? I remember meeting his cute kids. What the hell happened?
And that’s before we even get into conjecture about who this is supposed to be.
I don’t want you to think that by talking about Eddie’s kids that I am in any way suggesting that his accusers are lying about him. It’s difficult enough for a woman to stand up and make the accusation. No one does that for kicks. Rather, I’m suggesting that harassers (and their victims) are more complicated than just one type of action, no matter how vile. If anything, if we think that harassers and rapists and...

A lot has happened recently at DC Comics. They’ve announced plans for their Rebirth which drew mixed reactions – including from myself a couple of months back. They went on to announce a talent workshop with the idea of being able to bring in some fresh faces in comics to help breathe new life into their properties. Then earlier this month they announced a new imprint called Young Animals headed by Gerard Way, which I and many other people praised. Things coming down the pipeline from DC Comics seemed to be showing promise and certainly the return of titles like Doom Patrol have me excited.
Then last Thursday happened.
First, news broke that Shelly Bond, Executive Editor of the Vertigo imprint who had been with the imprint since its inception, had been let go as a result of “restructuring.” Vertigo editors will now be reporting directly to the top brass at DC.

The complete run of Starlog magazine has been scanned and made available over at archive.org. For those unfamiliar with the publication, it began life as a one-shot magazine about Star Trek. After art directors Kerry O’Quinn and Norman Jacobs were left high and dry by the publisher, they took all the existing material and decided to turn it into a magazine celebrating all science fiction on television and film. O’Quinn reached out to his friend David Houston to edit the new publication, dubbed Starlog and it debuted in the first half of 1976.
At the time, other publications covering the field appeared infrequently or failed to gain newsstand distribution in sufficient numbers to thrive. These included The Monster Times, Castle of Frankenstein, and Cinefantastique. Covering only aspects of science fiction was Warren Publications’ Famous Monsters of Filmland so there was a niche to be filled.

Chicago – It always takes a few minutes for viewers to adjust their eyes to the stiff, herky-jerky movements of characters in a direct-to-video animated film from DC Comics. “Superman vs. The Elite” opens with a cheeseball caricature of the Man of Steel headlining an outdated kiddie cartoon. It’s pretty silly, but at least the satirical characters are far more expressive than the “real” Superman once he rears his blandly noble head.
Yet as soon as I was ready to write off this seemingly disposable release, it won me over with its witty banter, topical themes and a villain who could prove to be a real showstopper if he was brought to the big screen. If Zack Snyder’s upcoming “Superman” reboot is a solid hit, then I suggest that studios consider Joe Kelly’s Action Comics yarn, “What’s So Funny About Truth, Justice & the American Way?” as source material for the sequel.

Marvel might rule the live-action comic book movie arena, but when it comes to direct-to-dvd animated action DC takes the trophy. They consistently pump out great versions of different story arcs comic book fans have wanted to see in motion for decades. DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. Premiere bring us the latest animated addition to their movie collection with Superman vs. The Elite.
The movie is based on the 2001 story "What's So Funny About Truth, Justice & the American Way?" that was published in Action Comics #775. Superman's ethical ways of doing things are put into question when a new group of super-powered crime fighters show up. The new group known as the Elite does what it has to in order to get the job done… which includes killing the enemy. The Man of Steel begins to wonder if his way of doing things has become irrelevant. Does humanity in the 21st...

In the 1940s, Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster produced a two-pager for Life that showed if the Man of Steel were alive, he’d grab Hitler and Mussolini and bring them to justice, saving countless millions of lives. A nice bit of wish fulfillment during World War II.
In the 1970s, comic book writers began exploring what it really means to have someone as powerful as Superman operating in a world much like ours. Writer Elliot S! This Wednesday will see the publication of Flashpoint #3, the mid-point, and it will reveal the secrets of Project: Superman while the armies of Aquaman and Wonder Woman are warring against each other. Event editor Eddie Berganza says of those who are reading Flashpoint, "They're starting to figure out where these 52 are coming from, and it's staring them right in the face with Flashpoint. A lot of the concepts, a lot of the ideas, they're cropping up within the pages. You have a book called Frankenstein in the Flashpoint world, and guess what, we're doing Frankenstein, Agent of Shade. You'll see a couple of other background players start showing up that become more important as we go into September." The various aspects of Flashpoint have done away with long established alliances between heroes, and emphasized an edgier world demonstrated largely by the aforementioned war between Aquaman and Wonder Woman. "At times,...

DC's animation department has done a terrific job with all of their animated features showcasing some of the biggest names in DC's library, and the next film in this legacy is the anthology style film, Green Lantern: Emerald Knights. When I popped this into my Blu-ray player, honestly, I wasn't sure to expect. I've been a fan, overall, of the DC animated films and their adaptation of All-Star Superman was almost perfect, it captured the heart and story of the comic while also making things cohesive for the animated medium.

Chicago – Superheroes may appear relatively sure-footed, but they are on shaky ground with modern audiences. The sense of awe evoked so effortlessly in Richard Donner’s 1978 classic “Superman” is practically impossible to pull off these days. Comic book adaptations have to be entrenched in realism (as in “The Dark Knight”) to truly wow audiences. Fantastical superpowers and pure-hearted morality just seem so passé.
It’s unclear whether Martin Campbell’s upcoming reboot of DC’s “Green Lantern” franchise will follow in line with the Marvel series, which has uneasily melded self-referential humor with its hokey fantasy (with the exception of the first “Iron Man”). Filmmakers can’t act hipper than the material and still expect audiences to sit through it. Hopefully Campbell’s film will have some semblance of the spirit so vibrantly evoked in DC’s latest original movie, “Green Lantern: Emerald Knights.”

To support The Dark Knight, Warner Premiere offered up Batman: Gotham Knight, a collection of stories from various animators that were dark and largely uninteresting. It’s gratifying to see that they have learned from this rare misfire and have offered up a companion to this month’s The Green Lantern feature film with Green Lantern: Emerald Knights, on sale Tuesday. There are five stories, largely culled from the comic books, with a sixth tale connecting everything together. Essentially, Krona, the fallen Guardian, has come back from banishment as an enormous, angry form, having coalesced within a star. Summoning Shadow Demons from the Anti-Matter Universe of Qward, Krona threatens the Guardians and their world of Oa.
The entire Green Lantern Corps has been summoned to deal with this cosmic danger but they pause to stand in line to take their turn recharging their rings. While waiting patiently to save all of reality,...
