“Dancing with the Stars” premiered in 2005 with a focus on teaching celebrities some fancy footwork. But along the way the professional dancers who teach and partner with those celebrity amateurs became stars in their own right. Many of them returned to the show year after year, and over a dozen have won the coveted Mirror Ball Trophy over the course of the series. Scroll down to see every single “DWTS” pro champion, listed by their number of victories.
It’s fitting that the “DWTS” pros have become fan-favorites because they’re not just dancers. They’re also trainers, choreographers and storytellers, and their chemistry with the stars fuels the show’s best routines, so they’re truly the lifeblood of the competition, especially when they bring talent and charisma out of unexpected places, from child stars to race car drivers to one male model, Nyle Dimarco, who won the Mirror...

As one of the most popular pros in DWTS history, Maksim Chmerkovskiy knows a bit or two about the chemistry of making a partnership work on the dance floor. He danced alongside 16 female celebrities throughout his career on the ABC series. However, even the most innocent dances could appear flirtatious. Chmerkovskiy explains why DWTS contestants catch feelings for their pros: “sexual energy.”

There was a funny moment on “Dancing with the Stars” on “Michael Buble Night” when guest judge Buble told “Bachelorette” star Gabby Windey that she was so good he wondered if she had previous dance experience. She sheepishly confirmed that she worked as a professional cheerleader in the past. It’s no secret that some of the “amateur” dancers who come onto “DWTS” are less amateur than others, and for no one is that the case more than Charli D’Amelio., who was a competitive dancer for over 10 years. Could that backfire against the TikTok star?
Any celeb has good reason to want to downplay their prior experience on “DWTS.” There have been shocking early eliminations in recent years of stars who might have been perceived to be ringers, like eighth-place Heather Morris in season 24 and 10th-place Tinashe in season 27. Other celebs with pre-established skills have gotten far in the competition but not won,...

“Outlander” stars Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe have undeniable chemistry in their roles as the series’ romantic leads Jamie and Claire, giving viewers six seasons of passion and romance — even when they were separated by centuries of time.
In an exclusive excerpt from Heughan’s new memoir “Waypoints: My Scottish Journey,” the actor details his powerful first encounter with Balfe at a casting panel.
Ahead of the show starting production, Heughan explains that “the chemistry had to be just right” between him and whoever took on the role of Jamie’s time-traveling lover. The intense read-through that followed between the two actors easily solidified them as the perfect duo to portray Jamie and Claire.
Heughan recounts how he and Balfe were asked by a casting director to perform what would become a famous scene from the series’ first season — a tense exchange between Claire and Jamie that occurs in an episode titled “The Reckoning.

Leslie Jones's Olympic Games commentary is always a treat - and the 2022 Winter Games are no exception! However, following alleged pushback from NBC, Jones announced on Monday that she may have to stop her live narration. "i m starting to feel like this should be my last olympics i live tweet," she wrote of the Beijing Games. The comedian has been sharing videos of NBC's coverage - including her predictions of the scores of figure skaters, why she won't go skiing after watching the competitors, and more - since the Games kicked off on Feb. 4.
While announcing her departure from live commentary, Jones was seemingly referring to NBC as she wrote, "I'm tired of fighting the folks who don't want me to do it. They block my videos and they get folks who think they can do it like me. And I'm tired of fighting them. I love the...

“Dancing with the Stars” will hoof its way to its 30th season this fall. Who would’ve thought 16 years ago that this little six-week summer show would make it to the big 3-0? But here we are. Scroll down for everything we know about the milestone installment so far.
Debuting in 2005, “DWTS” pairs an amateur celebrity contestant with a professional dance partner who teaches them routines in styles ranging from waltz to salsa to contemporary. Those dances are scored by a panel of judges, but those scores only make up half of the results. Who advances to the next round — and who ultimately wins the coveted Mirror Ball Trophy — is half determined by the judges’ scores and half by the votes of viewers watching at home.

Of the four remaining contestants on season 1 of “The Masked Dancer,” the Sloth is one of the best and he could well win the Diamond Mask. He had four judges rocking in their seats when he danced to “Twist Remix” by Neeraj Shridhar on February 3. That routine earned Sloth a slot in the Top 4 competing again on February 10.
We’ve rewatched all of Sloth’s slides across the dance floor including those from earlier episodes: “What I Like About You” by The Romantics on January 6;”Up Where We Belong” by Joe Cocker and Jennifer Warnes on January 13; and “Ain’t That a Kick in the Head” by Dean Martin on January 27. And we’ve reviewed his four clues videos again.

The Sloth is one of the strongest contenders still in the hunt to win season 1 of “The Masked Dancer.” He numbers among the final six who take to the stage on the January 27 episode. The Sloth secured his slot with a dazzling performance of the “Up Where We Belong” by Joe Cocker and Jennifer Warnes on January 13. He is one of the clear favorites of the four judges.
We’ve been busy trying to figure out who is hiding inside the Sloth costume. To do so, we watched both of his performances (the other was on on episode 2 to “What I Like About You” by The Romantics). And we’ve reviewed his clues videos. Keep reading for all “The Masked Dancer” spoilers, including our best guess as to the real name of the Sloth.
We are sure that the Sloth is Maksim Chmerkovskiy who was a professional partner on “Dancing With the Stars” for 17 seasons.

Of the four remaining contenders in Group B of “The Masked Dancer,” the one that is proving the most difficult to determine their real name is the Sloth. Even before “Dancing with the Stars” began its 29th season, figure skater Johnny Weir seemed like a natural front-runner, but it took him a while to find his footing in the ballroom. He finally had a breakthrough on “Disney Night,” though, going from the middle of the pack to the top of the judges’ leaderboard. Watch his game-changing rumba above.
Weir has a lot to live up to. He’s an Olympic figure skater like three previous Mirror Ball champions: Kristi Yamaguchi, Meryl Davis and Adam Rippon. And he has a vibrant, outgoing personality like Rippon that, on paper, made him seem like an almost inevitable champion. However, he didn’t seem quite as comfortable as his predecessors in his first couple of weeks. His season premiere cha cha scored straight 6s from the judges for a total of 18 out of 30. “Dancing with the Stars” announced its season 29 celebrities on September 2. So who are the contestants vying for the Mirror Ball Trophy when the season premieres on September 14? Scroll down to see the complete list.
You’ve always got to watch out for athletes, who have a long tradition of winning “DWTS.” Super Bowl champion Vernon Davis is hoping to become the fifth NFL star to take home the grand prize, following Emmitt Smith, Hines Ward, Donald Driver and Rashad Jennings. But coming from such a strong tradition of gridiron dancers can be a double-edged sword because it raises expectations from the very beginning.
Also with high expectations will be Johnny Weir, a figure skater who won three US Nationals titles, medaled once at the World Championships and competed at the Olympics twice. He would be the fourth figure skater to prevail on “DWTS,” following Kristi Yamaguchi, Meryl Davis and Adam Rippon.

Peta Murgatroyd was “shocked” and “sad” when she was informed that Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews would not be returning to “Dancing with the Stars” next season.
According to the two-time champ, the pros were told of the massive shake-up on a Zoom call shortly after Bergeron and Andrews were handed their pink slips last week.
“To be honest, I was shocked. I was sad,” Murgatroyd told “Us Weekly” (watch above). “I was sad that chapter of the show is done and it made me emotional on the call. I was, like, ‘Oh, my God, Tom’s not going to be there anymore? Like, he is the show.'”
Bergeron had been with the show since “Dancing” premiered in 2005. Andrews, who finished in third place on Season 10 in 2010 with Murgatroyd’s husband Maksim Chmerkovskiy, joined as co-host in Season 18 in 2014 (which was incidentally won by Chmerkovskiy and Meryl Davis). “I...

“Dancing with the Stars” can be hazardous to your health. You wouldn’t necessarily think that this amateur celebrity dance show is a dangerous sport, but there’s no question that it’s an athletic pursuit, and as many athletes know, injuries are bound to happen. Click above to see all the celebs who had to leave the ballroom abruptly because they got hurt or sick, and one who exited the show for personal reasons.
To compete on “DWTS,” celebrities have to train with their pro partners to learn brand new routines every single week. If they last long enough in the competition they eventually have to learn two or three dances per week, including group routines. And if they’re really lucky, they get the opportunity to perform a no-holds-barred freestyle routine that’s usually their most demanding performance of the season. It’s tough enough for amateur dancers...

If you’ve watched “Dancing with the Stars” for any amount of time, you get a feel for the kinds of celebrities who are usually invited to compete. Keeping those criteria in mind, scroll down to see our ultimate list of dream cast members from A to Zane, all of whom we’d love to see take a chance on the dance competition. Who from our list would you most like to see join the cast? “Dancing with the Stars” producers, feel free to bookmark this page for inspiration.
Looking back on the winners from previous seasons, it pays to be a pro athlete, and it’s easy to understand why. It’s grueling for celebrities to learn new physical skills every week as they train new dances, so celebs who already have athletic backgrounds tend to have the fitness, stamina, and training regimen to keep up with the frenetic pace.

Surprise eliminations on “Dancing with the Stars” are commonplace these days with passionate fan bases completely overriding the judges’ scores. So I’d love to see the show cast another all-stars season, but this time focused on the celebs since season 15 (their last all-stars edition) who, quite frankly, got screwed in their initial appearances on the show. We asked readers which celeb who was ousted early in recent years most deserves another chance at the Mirror Ball Trophy. And the results were crystal clear. Scroll down to see who fans voted for.

“Dancing with the Stars” was all over the place in season 28 with surprise eliminations and one uncoordinated contestant wearing out his welcome, but there was no surprise bigger than the elimination of James Van Der Beek in the Semi-Finals. I think the show should consider another all-star season, but this time the show should use it to give a second chance to stars like Van Der Beek who got screwed the first time around.
Van Der Beek’s ouster — the week his wife suffered a miscarriage, no less — will go down as one of the show’s worst, but since the show’s last all-star competition in season 15 he’s far from the only talented celeb dancer who went home way too soon. For instance, actress Elizabeth Berkley was one of the three best dancers of season 17 based on the judges’ scores, but she left the show in sixth place.

“Girl on Fire” indeed. Hannah Brown’s “Dancing with the Stars” victory on Monday ended a four-season streak of male champs and equalized the number of male and female winners.
Now “Dancing” has an even 14 male winners and 14 female winners through 28 seasons. As Thanos would say, “Perfectly balanced, as all things should be.” What’s interesting about its champs, though, is a bunch have come during some one-gender domination. Seasons 2 through 5 were won by men; Seasons 15 through 18 were won by women; and Season 24 through 27 were all dudes again.
Had Kel Mitchell, who finished second, prevailed, it would’ve marked the longest win streak by either gender at five straight.

The last female winner was Laurie Hernandez on Season 23. The Olympic champ also set a record as the show’s youngest female winner and youngest overall winner at 16. To...

Outspoken Olympic figure skater Adam Rippon launched his YouTube channel in May with a Portal A-produced series dubbed Break The Ice, in which the bronze medalist has heart-to-heart conversations with various celebritity guests while teaching them how to ice skate.
Following the success of the first season of Break The Ice-- which featured appearances from fellow YouTube stars like Manny Mua, Todrick Hall, and Molly Burke, and which garnered roughly 3.5 million views across all platforms -- Rippon has nabbed a sponsor for the show's sophomore outing: none other than luxe vodka brand Ketel One.
Season two, which will run from Oct. 30 to Dec. 18, comprises eight ten-minute episodes with appearances from: Queer Eye's Bobby Berk, Zach Villa of American Horror Story fame, Glow’s Jackie Tohn, YouTube duo Superfruit, musician Betty Who, YouTube sexologoist Shannon Boodram, and fellow figure skater (and Dancing With The Stars alum) Meryl Davis. After a one-week hiatus, James Van Der Beek has reclaimed the top spot in our “Dancing with the Stars” odds as not only the one to beat, but the guy to beat. The next closest man in our odds is — gulp — Sean Spicer in seventh place. If the “Dawson’s Creek” alum does take home the Mirrorball, he’d be the fifth consecutive man to win, marking the longest win streak by either gender on the show.

Meryl Davis is married! The Olympic ice dancing champion and former winner of Dancing With the Stars wed Russian-Canadian figure skater Fedor Andreev on Saturday in the South of France, People reported. "We can confirm and wish the happy couple and their families nothing but the best!" a rep for the U.S. Figure Skating Association told E! News. Randall Christensen, the Emmy-winning costume designer best known for his work on ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars,” died Sunday after a long fight with carcinoid cancer. He was 60.
Christensen’s work on the beloved reality show, which spanned 11 seasons since his start in 2006, earned him the moniker “the next Bob Mackie,” given to him from the iconic costume designer himself. As a lead designer on the show, the prolific designer created a wide array of dance and skate costumes for the show’s many contestants. In 2006, he earned an Emmy for outstanding costumes alongside multiple nominations from the Costume Designers Guild.
The designer’s work was also featured in a variety of feature films throughout his career; his gown can be seen worn by Jennifer Lopez in the 2004 film “Shall We Dance,” and he was tapped as the costume designer for films including “Take the Lead,” “Dance With Me,...

Maksim Chmerkovskiy won the 18th season of “Dancing with the Stars” with Meryl Davis, but he still thinks about the one that got away. That would be 13 seasons earlier, when he and Mel B came in second place.
“I was so disappointed,” Chmerkovskiy tells the spring issue of Lapalme magazine, in which he and wife Peta Murgatroyd have a photo spread. “I thought I had her at a good time, she was in incredible shape, before her marriage problems and she was there to work. We were crazy with our work schedules and we even had to learn routines in parking lots. But alas, we came in second.”
The two were frontrunners from the start and had the highest average score of the season, but they were edged out by Indy 500 champ Helio Castroneves and Julianne Hough. The Spice Girl had a one-point advantage over Castroneves, but he had the backing of the fans.

It’s better to give than to receive, and the judges’ very generous donation of a 30 for Bobby Bones‘ freestyle has saved him and “Dancing with the Stars” from further ignominy. Without that 30, he would’ve been the first winner who didn’t receive a perfect score during their run.
A perfect score for Bones and his partner Sharna Burgess was by no means guaranteed. He had never received a higher single score than an 8 and never scored higher than a 24, first achieved in Week 7, and his dancing level, frankly, didn’t really warrant much higher than that. But as the judges are wont to do sometimes, they handed out perfect scores for everyone’s freestyles on Monday’s finale, which is also kind of insulting to Milo Manheim, Evanna Lynch and Alexis Ren; if Bones’ half-soliloquy, half-dance deserved a 30, then their far technically superior routines deserved 40s. Hilariously, this...

Witney Carson, Alan Bersten, Sharna Burgess and Keo Motsepe are the four pros in the “Dancing with the Stars” final. Three of them, Bersten, Burgess and Motsepe, are seeking their first win, but a victory for two of them, Burgess and Motsepe, would be very, very sweet after some tough, long and unlucky roads.
Burgess is by far the most overdue of any pro still awaiting their first Mirrorball trophy. A pro since Season 16 and the only female pro this season who hasn’t won, she has three runner-up placements — Nick Carter (Season 21), James Hinchcliffe (Season 23) and Josh Norman (Season 26) — and one third-place finish, with Noah Galloway in Season 20. She may have won in any other season with these people — and even Charlie White, who had to settle for fifth place in Season 18 while the show pimped his ice dancing partner Meryl Davis and Maksim Chmerkovskiy — but she had the...

Age is just a number, and Milo Manheim might prove that adage true again. The 17-year-old is one of the frontrunners to win “Dancing with the Stars” and would in turn become the show’s youngest male champ ever.
The “Zombies” star, who has the second highest average score this season, would break the record currently held by Jordan Fisher, then 23 when he took home the Mirrorball trophy in Season 25. Fisher had ended the 21-season, 10-and-a-half-year reign of Apolo Anton Ohno, who won Season 4 on his 25th birthday.

With the women dropping like flies and the way scores are going on “Dancing with the Stars,” we could be in store for something that hasn’t happened since the first time it happened way back in Season 3: an all-male final three. Milo Manheim, Juan Pablo Di Pace and DeMarcus Ware are our current predicted finalists, with Manheim the odds-on favorite to win it all.
“Dancing” usually has a mix of female and male celebrity final threes with just three exceptions in 26 seasons. Season 3 was all dudes: winner Emmitt Smith, runner-up Mario Lopez and third-place finisher Joey Lawrence. Twice has the show had all-female final threes: Melissa Rycroft beat Shawn Johnson and Kelly Monaco in Season 15, and Meryl Davis triumphed over Amy Purdy and Candace Cameron Bure in Season 18.

“Dancing with the Stars” eliminated its third contestant on Monday, and for the third time, a woman, Nancy McKeon, went home. Not only that, but it was the third woman who was in the bottom five that was announced during the Week 1 elimination. She followed Nikki Glaser and Danielle Umstead off the dance floor. Will they be joined by the other two who were in the bottom five, Mary Lou Retton and Alexis Ren, in the next two weeks? More importantly, why are the female celebrities dropping like flies?
As we’ve previously noted, “Dancing” is a pretty equal opportunity show, producing 13 female champs from the first 26 seasons. In addition, 25 out of 52 finalists have also been women. There was even a four-season streak with female champs: Melissa Rycroft (Season 15), Kellie Pickler (Season 16), Amber Riley (Season 17) and Meryl Davis (Season 18). Mirai Nagasu isn’t the only one who considers Meryl Davis the queen. The ice dancer is our readers’ favorite Olympian who’s taken home the Mirrorball trophy, receiving 23 percent of the vote in a recent poll.
Davis, who dominated Season 18, is one of six Olympians who have won “Dancing.” Adam Rippon became No. 6 after Monday’s “Athletes” finale, joining Olympic champs Davis, Apolo Anton Ohno, Kristi Yamaguchi, Shawn Johnson and Laurie Hernandez.
Rippon was just behind Davis, with 20 percent. The Olympic bronze medalist is the first male figure skater and third overall to win. Previously, 2010 Olympic champ Evan Lysaeck placed second on Season 10 and Davis’ ice dancing partner Charlie White was fifth on Season 18.

Adam Rippon won the special four-week, all-athletes season of “Dancing with the Stars” on May 21, which made him the 11th sports star to claim the Mirror Ball Trophy. But is he the best athlete who has ever won? Yes, according to the readers who responded to our poll, but another figure-skating Olympian was right behind him.
A quarter of our readers (25%) thought Rippon was the best ever, and it was certainly a decisive victory on the dance floor. He topped the judges’ leaderboard every single week of the shortened season, even in the season finale after his unconventional freestyle routine left Carrie Ann Inaba and Len Goodman scratching their heads.
Figure skaters come to the ballroom with an advantage since their sport already trains them in choreography and musical interpretation, and if you can do it while balancing on the narrow blade of an ice skate, you can do it in dancing shoes.

With his victory Monday night, Adam Rippon has joined an elite group of “Dancing with the Stars” champions: He is the sixth Olympian to take home the Mirrorball trophy. The Olympic bronze medalist follows Apolo Anton Ohno (Season 4), Kristi Yamaguchi (Season 6), Shawn Johnson (Season 8), Meryl Davis (Season 18) and Laurie Hernandez (Season 23).
The first five are all Olympic gold medalists, with three of them — Ohno, Yamaguchi and Davis — Winter Olympians like Rippon, and the other two, Johnson and Hernandez, Summer Olympians. Davis is a close friend of Rippon’s who mentored him and fellow figure skater Mirai Nagasu this season.
Rippon made his first — and last — Olympic team on his third attempt this year, winning a bronze in the figure skating team event with Nagasu. At 28, he was the oldest singles skater to make his Olympic debut in 82 years.

Rippon made his first — and last — Olympic team on his third attempt this year, winning a bronze in the figure skating team event with Nagasu. At 28, he was the oldest singles skater to make his Olympic debut in 82 years.

“Dancing with the Stars: Athletes” only lasted four weeks, but figure skater Adam Rippon won it in decisive fashion. He became the Mirror Ball Trophy champion on Monday night, May 21 after topping the judges’ leaderboard every single week. In fact, he was the front-runner before he ever set foot in the ballroom. We tipped him to win as soon as the cast was announced in April. But is he the best athlete ever to win “DWTS”? Click through our gallery above of all 26 winners. Then scroll down to vote in our poll at the bottom of this post.
To date 11 sports stars have won “DWTS.” Rippon is the third figure skater, following Olympic gold medalists Kristi Yamaguchi (season 6) and Meryl Davis (season 18). But one sport has accounted for even more Mirror Ball titles. Football has produced four victors: Emmitt Smith (season 3), Hines Ward (season 12), Donald Driver (season 14) and Rashad Jennings...

If it feels like “Dancing with the Stars: Athletes” just started, that’s because it kind of did. Season 26 of “DWTS” came to an end on Monday night after a lightning-fast four weeks of competition that reduced 10 contestants to three finalists: football player Josh Norman and figure skaters Adam Rippon and Tonya Harding. The Mirror Ball Trophy champion was crowned at the end of the night. So who took home the title? Scroll down for our minute-by-minute live blog for all of the night’s developments.
We expected all along that Rippon would make the finals. He was the Mirror Ball front-runner from the moment the cast was announced in April. That was due in part to his success at the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea, where he won the bronze medal in the figure skating team event. But his lively interviews off the ice won him as many...

Mirai Nagasu isn’t letting the haters bring her down. In two lengthy Instagram posts, the Olympic bronze medalist reflected on her “Dancing with the Stars: Athletes” run, which ended with a surprising elimination last week, and the “truly hurtful” messages she’s received from viewers about her personality — and she’s making no apologies.

“I’ve been sent direct messages about how entitled my personality comes across and how egotistical I am. I want these people to know that after being knocked down so many times, my self-confidence is something I’ve truly had to work to build,” she wrote. “At the end of the day, to be told that my personality sucks is truly hurtful and this has led me to question myself. I...

We thought Mirai Nagasu was a lock for the “Dancing with the Stars” finals along with her Olympic figure skating teammate Adam Rippon. They were the two top contestants based on judges’ scores after three weeks of competition, but at the end of the semifinals she was unexpectedly eliminated with Jennie Finch Daigle and Chris Mazdzer, while Rippon advanced to the championship round with Tonya Harding and Josh Norman. Did she deserve to be sent home? Not according to our readers. Scroll down to see our complete poll results.
Nagasu was robbed according to 66% of respondents. Another 4% thought she, Finch Daigle, and Mazdzer all should have made the finals, so a whopping total of 70% of “DWTS” fans thought she should have been one of the final three vying for the Mirror Ball Trophy on Monday night, May 21. This is somewhat reminiscent of the last time a pair of figure-skating teammates went head-to-head on the show.
