The 30th Vesoul International Film Festival of Asian Cinema will feature 92 films, including 52 never-before-seen films from 29 countries, under the banner of commitment!
Mohsen Makhmalbaf, Iranian director with 60 international awards to his credit, is President of the Jury. Other members include Taiwanese director Zero Chou, winner of the Golden Bear at Berlin 2007, Fatemed Motamed-Arya, the most awarded Iranian actress in the history of Iranian cinema, and Japanese actor Shogen, cinema ambassador at the Sea-Okinawa Pan-Pacific International Film Festival.
The 17 films in the fiction and documentary competitions come from China, Korea, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Bangladesh, Nepal and Taiwan. Four are French premieres, six European premieres, five international premieres and two world premieres.

After a three-year hiatus, the Jio Mami Mumbai Film Festival is returning with a larger lineup and an expanded focus on South Asian cinema.
The festival will feature 250 films including 40 world premieres, 45 Asia premieres and 70 South Asia Premieres. The opening and closing films have not been finalized yet.
The festival’s new vision is to become a hub for South Asian and South Asian diaspora cinema and talent and, in keeping with this, the main competition is for 14 films from the region. In the film, a filmmaker on assignment follows a crematorium worker and an old woman in the ancient city of Banaras with his camera. A victim of violence, the filmmaker is burning with anger and hatred and is determined to take revenge for his past trauma. But a series of unexpected events challenges his conviction.

The 31st CineMart co-production market came to a close last night (Jan 29) with the awarding of prizes.
The ceremony, held at the Doelen as part of the International Film Festival Rotterdam (Iffr), saw two projects rewarded.
The Eurimages Co-Production Development Award of €30,000 for the best CineMart 2014 project with a European partner was given to Tabija by Igor Drljaca from Bosnia and Herzegovina, a production of Scca/pro.ba.
The jury stated: “This is a project with great urgency developed by a young team, in an interesting form and style. This will be a film that portrays a generation of young people after a war we all know. We are very much looking forward to see this intense and modern film from a country, that hasn’t made such a film yet.”

The ceremony, held at the Doelen as part of the International Film Festival Rotterdam (Iffr), saw two projects rewarded.
The Eurimages Co-Production Development Award of €30,000 for the best CineMart 2014 project with a European partner was given to Tabija by Igor Drljaca from Bosnia and Herzegovina, a production of Scca/pro.ba.
The jury stated: “This is a project with great urgency developed by a young team, in an interesting form and style. This will be a film that portrays a generation of young people after a war we all know. We are very much looking forward to see this intense and modern film from a country, that hasn’t made such a film yet.”

The International Film Festival Rotterdam’s co-production market CineMart (26 – 29 January) has completed its selection for the 2014 edition.
The selection includes new projects from directors including Peter Webber, Naomi Kawase, Alessandro Comodin, Eran Kolirin, Alexis dos Santos and Alejandro Landes, Shereen Seno and Igor Drljaca.
Returning producers include Cedomir Kolar (Asap Films), Helena Danielsson (Hepp Films), and Piotr Kobus (Mañana).
Iffr and Cph:dox, the Copenhagen International Documentary Film Festival, combine forces at Iffr on the Art:Film initiative, which connects visual art to cinema. The three Art:Film projects presented at CineMart 2014 are Fierté nationale by Sven Augustijnen, Tarda Primavera by Michael Frammartino, and Invention by Mark Lewis.

Malayalam film Kanyaka Talkies by K. R. Manoj will open the feature film category while Kamal Swaroop’s Rangbhoomi will open the non-feature category of Indian Panorama at the International Film Festival of India (Iffi) 2013.
Indian Panorama will screen 26 Feature films and 16 Non-Feature films.

The first edition of the Extravagant India! International Indian Film Festival will be launched in Paris in association with the Indian Embassy in Paris and the Paris City Hall showcasing Indian cinema from October 16-22, 2013.
The festival will have competitive and non-competitive sections along with interactions with filmmakers and meetings with industry experts to boost co-productions between India and France.
There are three sections in competition: feature films, short films and documentary films.

The festival is organized by the Kerala State Chalachitra Academy, in addition to the International Film Festival of Kerala (Iffk). The festival has a National level competition for Documentaries (long and short), short fiction, animation, music videos and campus films. The Best Short Fiction (upto 69 mins) wins a cash prize of Rs. 50,000/ and a certificate. At the Stairs is about the lives of three aged widows in Banaras who are waiting to die there and attain Moksha. It weaves a visual narrative which juxtaposes life and death, body and soul, confinement and liberation.
