When Taylor Swift took over The AMC at The Grove to debut “The Eras Tour” last October, cars wrapped around the block. With the official kickoff event for what would become a $261.6 million box office hit filling auditoriums with celebrities — while outside hundreds of screaming fans swarmed the luxury mall’s towering parking deck and famed Cheesecake Factory Observational Deck — it seemed as though presidential motorcades had inconvenienced SoCal less than a single night at the movies with planet Earth’s favorite pop star.
No one is complaining about a visit from Taylor Swift, of course; least of all the film lovers who in 2023 rightly hailed her as a dark horse savior of cinema in a dire time. Still, when contrasted with Lady Gaga’s pared-down world premiere for HBO’s “Gaga Chromatica Ball” — a tidy event with an enthusiastic but small line on the sidewalk and a single-block road...

The invitation stated the event was going to be standing room only. “Think dance party while watching the film.”
And that’s exactly what it was. On Thursday night, Lady Gaga brought a dance party to Nya studios in Hollywood to mark the world premiere of her film “Gaga Chromatica Ball.”
The evening kicked off with a Q&a moderated by Access Hollywood’s Scott Evans. “This was such a special time. This tour went on during a time that people didn’t think that you could. The stadiums were packed all, they were sold out and [people were] all dressed up, dancing and singing,” said Gaga in front of an audience of about 400 guests that included “RuPaul’s Drag Race” stars Gottmik, Sasha Velour and Violet Chachki.

Rocking black hair, bleached eyebrows and a white ensemble that she said was meant to resemble a car part, Lady Gaga debuted her Gaga Chromatica Ball concert special in her signature style Thursday night, with a premiere screening in Los Angeles for her fans.
The concert film follows Gaga during the Los Angeles stop of her 2022 Chromatica Ball Tour, as she takes over Dodger Stadium with both her biggest hits and new songs from her 2020 album Chromatica. It was Gaga’s first all-stadium tour and comprised just 20 dates, starting in Germany in July 2022 and ending two months later in Miami.
At the premiere event, Gaga — who made a quick change after the red carpet into a black outfit featuring a sparkling mask — sat down for a short Q&a with Access Hollywood‘s Scott Evans ahead of the screening. Guests were told in advance it would be a standing-room-only event...

Despite Ryan Gosling’s Oscars performance of “I’m Just Ken” being a highlight of the 2024 show, the actor admits he originally did not want to perform the nominated song.
During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Thursday, the Barbie actor said his answer was “100 percent no” when he was first asked to perform the film’s hit song.
“There’s a lot of ways that could go wrong,” he explained.
Though initially hesitant, Gosling ended up performing the number after, in a bright pink bedazzled suit and cowboy hat along with an army of 62 Kens, as well as his fellow Barbie movie Kens — Simu Liu, Ncuti Gatwa, Kingsley Ben-Adir and Scott Evans — as well as Mark Ronson and Slash.

Ryan Gosling visited “The Tonight Show” ahead of his latest hosting stint on “Saturday Night Live” and spoke about his internet-breaking live performance of “I’m Just Ken” at the Oscars last month. Asked by host Jimmy Fallon if it was an immediate yes when the Academy called him up to request he perform the “Barbie” original song live during the ceremony, Gosling said his answer was “100% no.”
“There’s a lot of ways that could go wrong,” Gosling said.
But the performance went very right. Gosling, bathed in pink lighting and wearing a sparkling pink suit and pink gloves, started singing “I’m Just Ken” while in the audience sitting behind Margot Robbie. He then made his way to the stage, where he was joined by Mark Ronson and Slash on guitars. His fellow Ken actors Simu Liu, Scott Evans, Ncuti Gatwa and Kingsley Ben-Adir joined the armada of backup dancers behind Gosling.

All Ryan Gosling needed was a 40-piece orchestra, 62 dancing Kens, over 24 gigantic Barbie heads, four “cameo Kens” and a Guns N’Roses surprise to turn his highly anticipated performance of “Barbie” track “I’m Just Ken” into one of the most unbelievable moments in award show history.
After all the protracted speculation about whether Gosling would perform “I’m Just Ken” at the Oscars, the news broke in late February that he had been confirmed for a song and dance extravaganza. But in fact, Oscars producers had been talking to Gosling for months.
“Ryan Gosling is a true professional, that man — we met with him on Zooms months ago, talking about that performance,” said Molly McNearney, who produced the show with Raj Kapoor, Katy Mullan and Rob Paine. “Greta Gerwig weighed in creatively as well. He was so committed to it. His choreographer, Mandy Moore, is exceptional — she was on all the calls.

As the clock inched toward midnight at the Vanity Fair Oscars party (and on the eight-month long “Barbie” press tour), Greta Gerwig gleefully danced the night away.
With an In-n-Out burger in one hand and a cocktail in the other, Gerwig grooved to Dua Lipa’s hit “Dance the Night” with another one of her Barbies, Hari Nef, who sported a pink feathered Balenciaga jacket with a sizable train.
For this last hurrah, Gerwig swapped the pink boiler suit she famously wore while directing the $1.4 billion blockbuster (and the stunning Gucci gown she wore at the ceremony) for a black open tuxedo jacket, skipping a shirt in favor of draping Boucheron diamonds on her neck and chest.

Ryan Gosling went full Ken at the 2024 Oscars with a rousing and ridiculous live performance of “I’m Just Ken” from the “Barbie” original soundtrack. “I’m Just Ken” was one of two songs from “Barbie” that earned a nomination for best original song. Billie Eilish’s “What Was I Made For?” was the other.
Before the performance, Gosling’s “Barbie” co-star Simu Liu asked the Oscars audience to turn on their phone lights and sing along to Gosling’s performance.
Gosling, bathed in purple lighting and wearing a sparkling pink suit and pink gloves, started singing “I’m Just Ken” while in the audience sitting behind Margot Robbie, who couldn’t help but laugh. He then made his way to the stage, where he was joined by Mark Ronson on guitar and a handful of backup dancers. Slash also appeared on stage, contributing guitar to the song.

With or without a renewal, “Couple to Throuple” isn’t ending. Not really.
Peacock’s reality dating show for the poly-curious concluded its inaugural “experiment” this week — with its unconventional cast wrapping up their first attempts at non-monogamy in an emotional Season 1 finale that debuted Thursday, February 29.
Following 10 weeks of chaotic “third” swapping at an idyllic resort in Panama City, the starring couples and the sexy singles they dated made only the vaguest plans for their post-show futures. Instead, the subjects spent most of the episode better defining their relationship goals and tearily saying goodbye to their myriad exes. Per the obligatory where-are-they-now epilogue, just one triad was still romantically involved come showtime.
That might feel like the final resting place for a freshman series in a sea of shows stuck in development limbo. (NBC has yet to comment on the future production plans for “Couple to Throuple.”) But when...

Though many might claim the world of reality dating has tried it all — a spectrum from love at first sight to love at no sight at all — producers at Peacock’s Couple to Throuple still have something new to bring to the table.
“We noticed we were getting more and more applications where people weren’t necessarily looking for one singular person, or had different ideas around what a relationship could be,” executive producer Tom O’Brien tells The Hollywood Reporter. As the managing director at Naked, a Fremantle label, O’Brien and his team cast for a range of reality dating series.
In pursuit of a show that could give these outside-the-box submissions a home, he and the rest of Naked developed Peacock’s exploration of ethical non-monogamy, Couple to Throuple.

As we wrap up our year-end coverage, IndieWire looks back at the people, projects, and ideas that defined 2023 — and what’s coming next.
To fully appreciate the financial success of Greta Gerwig’s zeitgeist-shifting smash hit “Barbie,” let’s briefly consider some of the other heavy-hitters it trounced at the box office: John Wick, Indiana Jones, Transformers, the “Fast and Furious” family, and The Flash. The number-one film of the year may have sprung from beloved (slight shudder here) intellectual property, but Gerwig so wholly transformed the iconic doll, shaping a new mythos around her in the process, that nothing about “Barbie” felt been-there or done-that in the slightest.
While Hollywood’s affection for — and attention to — the kind of franchise features that used to regularly top the box office charts is on the decline, the success of “Barbie,” the sort of fresh take on seemingly old material that should...

Following the box office success of Barbie, there’s been a lot of chatter about a potential sequel that would see Margot Robbie reprise the titular character role.
However, in a new interview, Robbie seems to shoot down any possibilities of a follow-up to the Greta Gerwig-directed film.
“I think we put everything into this one. We didn’t build it to be a trilogy or something,” Robbie told the Associated Press in an interview. “Greta put everything into this movie, so I can’t imagine what would be next.”
Barbie made over $1.4 billion at the box office and Robbie also reflected on the success of the film noting that “original films can still hit huge.”
“It doesn’t have to be a sequel or a prequel or a remake,” Robbie continued. “It can be totally original. It can still be big given the big budget to do that.

The film presents the iconic blonde bombshell in ways we’ve never seen while taking Mattel to task for decades of questionable motivation concerning its portrayal of “toys for girls.” To Mattel’s credit, the legendary toy company leans into Gerwig and Noah Baumbach’s biting script, giving the Hollywood couple plenty of room to play in Barbie Land. Barbie is a unique film experience worth watching, and you can pre-order a copy of the film by clicking this link.

Chris Evans is reportedly off the market. Multiple media outlets have reported that the 42-year-old actor has married his 26-year-old girlfriend, actress Alba Baptista (star of “Warrior Nun”), in a small ceremony at their home in Boston, Massachusetts.
Earlier this summer, the actor’s brother Scott went to bat for the couple in an episode of podcast “The Viall Files” and accused his brother’s fans of “being like ‘You are a piece of crap’ to anybody he’s tried to date, and just destroying them and telling them they suck.”
Chris Evans and Baptista confirmed their relationship in November 2022, with a source telling People at the time that the two had been dating for “over a year.” Scott Evans opened up about what dating is like for his brother in July.
Scott said that the internet can take something good and turn it into something awful pretty easily. As Scott put it,...

Greta Gerwig’s Barbie might as well wear the Infinity Gauntlet because the pink-powered meta-comedy has defeated Avengers: Endgame as the best-selling movie ever at Alamo Drafthouse. The theater chain isn’t keen on releasing ticket sale totals for either film. However, Barbie is sitting pretty at the box office, with $596 million in North America and $1.343 billion worldwide. For those who want to compare, Avengers: Endgame snapped up $858 million in North America and $2.799 billion globally. While Barbie is bigger than Endgame at Alamo Drafthouse, the Marvel event film is still the second-biggest movie in history behind James Cameron’s Avatar.
A portion of Barbie’s popularity at Alamo Drafthouse could point toward the theater chain’s merchandise push, with Drafthouse cinemas offering limited edition items to guests, including lunch boxes, t-shirts, and sunglasses. Alamo Drafthouse says Barbie is responsible for selling more merch than any other film hosted by the boutique theater.

C’mon, Barbie! Let’s go party! Greta Gerwig’s existential comedy Barbie is making history after becoming the highest-grossing Warner Bros. film at the global box office! Say farewell to the top spot, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2. There’s a new champion at the pinnacle of the chart!
Today’s news is another win for Barbie after the film inspired by the classic toy line surpassed Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight as WB’s biggest movie in the studio’s history in North America. Before leaving Batman in the dust, Barbie pounced on Illumination and Universal’s The Super Mario Bros. Movie, becoming the top-grossing title of 2023 in North America. If Barbie remains on track – and there’s no reason to think it won’t – it could become the world’s top-earning film of the year. With enough time, Barbie could overtake Disney’s...
