The Paddington films are some of the most acclaimed family films with high audience ratings and nearly 100% on Rotten Tomatoes with 97% for the first film and an astounding 99% for Paddington 2. The stage musical adaptation of ’80s classic The Karate Kid will kick up its world premiere in St. Louis next spring in what producers are calling a pre-Broadway engagement.
The Karate Kid – The Musical, with a book by original screenwriter Robert Mark Kamen and music and lyrics by Drew Gasparini (Smash), will begin a limited engagement on May 25, 2022, in a Stages St. Louis production at The Kirkwood Performing Arts Center just outside St. Louis, Mo. The musical will run through June 26.
The production will be directed by Japanese director Amon Miyamoto (Pacific Overtures). Casting for the musical has not yet been announced.

Japanese property to entertainment group, Kinoshita has come to the rescue of the annual Tokyo FILMeX film festival. The festival recently lost its principal supporter following the restructuring of Office Kitano.
Kinoshita, which owns nursing homes and retail properties, and has entertainment businesses including distributor Kino Films and the Dongyu Club talent agency, is expected to take on both a financial and management role. The next edition of the festival will now go ahead, as normal, Nov. 17-24, this year.
Office Kitano is the production company and talent management firm controlled by director Takeshi Kitano, who also appears under the name Beat Takeshi when performing as an actor or comedian. In March this year Kitano announced that he would quit Office Kitano, which he founded in 1992.
