Exclusive: Noah Media, producer of Netflix’s 14 Peaks and Sky’s Villeneuve Pironi, has restructured to focus on international docs and laid off a small number of staff.
The London outfit has in the past few months transitioned from a “UK sports-based production company into an international documentary producer,” according to a statement from CEO and co-founder John McKenna.
“This will see us transition from a staff-based to a more freelance-based model, in line with the norm across the factual production space,” said McKenna. “This has unfortunately meant some redundancies in the past few months for some employees we think are fantastic colleagues and people.”
For the year to March 31 2023, Noah had around 45 staff, according to its latest accounts. It will offer “freelance project-specific contracts” for employees who have lost jobs where possible, McKenna added, and he said this has already happened for some of those laid off.

When it comes to action, Vikings: Valhalla has some big tunics to fill. Its predecessor, Vikings, delivered many thrilling sword and axe skirmishes worthy of these legendary warriors. The new series reassembles the same stunt team and prop makers in hopes of capturing even more honor and glory for the noble Norsemen. Fighting through gore and muck is the Viking way, and this crew strives to engage us viscerally with the ferocious spectacle of medieval war. And Vikings: Valhalla doesn’t pull any punches. Jack Charlton is the subject of a new feature documentary from the producers of “Bobby Robson: More Than a Manager.” Charlton was part of England’s 1966 World Cup winning team and is also hugely popular in Ireland after a stint managing its national team.
Noah Media has teamed with Charlton and his family on the project, which has just entered production. It will be released theatrically in summer 2020, 30 years on from Italia 90, where Charlton led the Republic of Ireland in its first ever World Cup.
The producers said there will be rarely seen archive and the film will explore the story of the Englishman who became an Irish hero.
Jack Charlton won the 1966 World Cup alongside brother Bobby, who was always the more revered player. Jack was the more outspoken of the pair and a household name as pundit and TV celebrity by the early 1970s, before turning his hand to coaching.

Coming off the success of Bullitt, Steve McQueen turned his sights to Le Mans, an auto racing drama that, after a complicated production, ended up flopping upon release. However, with its documentary style and accurate depiction of the sport, it’s gone on to build up a cult acclaim over the last few years.

Gabriel Clarke and John McKenna's "Steve McQueen: The Man & Le Mans," which premiered at Cannes Classics and went on to San Sebastian, Deauville and will screen at the upcoming BFI London Film Festival, starts following the king of cool in 1970 when he was fresh off hits "The Thomas Crown Affair" and "Bullitt." McQueen wanted to make on a film about France's 24-hour Formula One race Le Mans. During the six months he worked on the film, his director John Sturges quit, his marriage disintegrated, his Solar Productions neared bankruptcy and he was rumored to be on Charles Manson's kill list. Virtually dialogue-free and cinema verite, "Le Mans" ultimately went to director Lee H. Katzin and flopped at the 1971 box office. Chad McQueen helped to produce the doc about his father's experience, which includes plenty of interviews as well as newly discovered archival footage and McQueen's private audio recordings.

"I'm a driver, I'm an actor, and a filmmaker." FilmRise has debuted the trailer for Steve McQueen: The Man & Le Mans, a documentary about actor/director Steve McQueen trying to make the racing film Le Mans, which was released in 1971. Apparently it was a very troubled, messy production with all kinds of problems and on-set rivalries - resulting in what was a "poorly received" film that didn't really connect with American audiences. The documentary features plenty of archival footage along with some interviews to present a unique, inside look at the production and what really went down. Of course, found within all that footage is McQueen talking about a love for car racing and filmmaking. "This is the story of racing, man."
