Composer-songwriter and author Edna Lewis was born in Brooklyn, New York and joined ASCAP in 1939, and her chief musical collaborators included Beverly Ross. He popular-song compositions include "Lipstick On Your Collar", "Judy's Turn to Cry", and "I Wish That We Were Married", and she authored "Folk Ballads from the World of Edgar Allen Poe".
