One of my all-time favorite horror events was experiencing a live performance of Tales from Beyond the Pale at the Overlook Film Festival in 2016. Such an incredible amount of work is put into these horror audio dramas from the cast, sound engineer, and especially series creators Larry Fessenden and Glenn McQuaid. If they announce any new live performances, it's absolutely worth your time to make a trip to see it, but they're giving horror fans the ability to listen to new horror audio dramas from the comfort of their home every week.
Today, we have details on the launch of a a weekly Tales from Beyond the Pale podcast that will see a mix of new stories with content from their archives, featuring an impressive cast of horror talent. Starring Clay McLeod Chapman and Larry Fessenden, the first release is a brand new audio drama called Reappraisal that will be available on multiple podcast providers,...

The first season of Glass Eye Pix's wildly successful and thoroughly badass audio theater presentation of Tales from Beyond the Pale is available Now, and we've got an exclusive trailer for you to dig on to get you geared up for this Halloween treat!
From the Press Release:
Conceived during a fog-drenched car ride with nothing beyond the windshield but a horizon-less void, Larry Fessenden and Glenn McQuaid created the acclaimed Tales From Beyond The Pale, audio theater inspired by the vintage radio shows of Alfred Hitchcock and Orson Welles.
“It was very gratifying to challenge these artists to step outside their chosen medium and explore the world of audio storytelling and to get everyone into production without a long fundraising period. With audio tales the only limitation to production value is imagination,” states Fessenden.
McQuaid adds: “Season One of Tales from Beyond the Pale represents a year-long effort...

Brave New Worlds is one of the best primers of dystopian literature you'll find on shelves today. A perfect blend of classic and contemporary short stories about government control, technological subjugation and corporate espionage, each story offers a unique position on how we're so apt to allow entities to control us... for our own good, of course.
When I first got the 500 page book in the mail I was worried I wouldn't have time to read it before it gets released in January. But once I started I found I couldn't put it down. Once again, it would seem that editor John Joseph Adams knows how to pick 'em.
Of course, Brave New Worlds won major points right off the bat for featuring Shirley Jackson's 1948 classic "The Lottery" as the opening story. This story...

Horror author Rhodi Hawk has been ensnared by the power of words and stories since her earliest memory, when her grandmother would read to her from Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens. Rhodi has been reading or writing ever since she began her career as a transcription linguist in Us Army intelligence. Later she made a living as a technical writer during the Internet boom, while working on her first novel in the early mornings and at night. Her debut novel A Twisted Ladder– the first in a planned series – was published last year, winning her the International Thriller Writers Scholarship for her first work of fiction. A Twisted Ladder is a complex, intelligent, creepy slice of Southern Gothic literature where myth and science, nightmare and daylight, magic and the monstrous collide.

This past weekend at World Horror Con in Brighton, UK, the Horror Writers Association revealed the winners of the 2009 Stoker Awards. The recipients list, for superior achievement in all aspects of horror writing, reads like a who's who, or at least a list of names you should know and will be seeing again.
Also presented was the Lifetime Achievement Award to Brian Lumley and William F. Nolan. The Specialty Press Award went to Ray Russel and Rosalie Parker of Tartarus Press. In addition, the Silver Hammer Award, for outstanding service to the organization, was presented to Kathryn Ptacek while the President's Richard Laymon Service Award went to Vince A. Liaguno.

Sarah Pinborough is primarily a horror writer with forays into science-fiction, thrillers, media tie-ins and more personal tales of magic realism and mortality. To date she has written six paperback originals for Leisure books, a novella for Ps Publishing and a series of short stories for numerous anthologies. The content of her work is as it comes, sick, funny and nastier than a sack full of burning ferrets on a bonfire. I was greatly impressed by her stab at the creature feature subgenre with Feeding Ground – set in the same universe as Breeding Ground (On my own Tbr list) – women suddenly become grotesquely obese and give birth to ravenous giant spider, and a Kingpin discovers a way to control some of them, with crack cocaine...

Harper - Available Sept 23, 2009
Audrey’s Door is the latest horror novel from Sarah Langan, who gave us The Keeper and The Missing, and it channels Polanski’s The Tenant along with a little bit of Rosemary’s Baby (which are both listed as inspirations in the preface) along with a creepy almost ‘Henry James’ attitude towards New York City and its inhabitants. Langan has a great talent for character development if, despite the intensity of the plots, good tends to triumph over evil (I never like that) and things get wrapped up nice and tidy in the last chapters of her novels. Nevertheless, Audrey Lucas is a creation with whom a chick can really identify; she’s insecure, complex, and caught up in a severely screwed up and macabre situation in her new apartment building where the other tenants are more than a bit odd.
