With its winsome narration, frequent cutaways to nature and focus on discovery, “Edge of the World” resembles nothing so much as Terrence Malick’s similarly titled “The New World.” Say this for director Michael Haussman and writer Rob Allyn: They have good taste. Their period drama set in 19th-century Borneo may not rise to the level of its lyrical predecessor — few movies do, after all — but there are worse transgressions than a film’s grasp exceeding its reach.
In yet another similarity to Malick’s retelling of the American creation myth, “Edge of the World” follows an English explorer who finds more than he was expecting upon arriving in a foreign land. Here it’s Sir James Brooke (Johnathan Rhys Meyers), who arrives in Borneo in 1839 and quickly meets two princes vying for power; that they’re cousins only adds to the intrigue — and tension. Much to their surprise,...

When brothers Jake and Conor Allyn were growing up, they had something of an unusual family tradition.
Whenever they would go to the movies, their dad, Rob, had a tendency to choose something that wasn’t exactly age-appropriate for his young kids.
That’s how Jake came to perform a monologue from “Braveheart” in his elementary school talent show while the other students were singing along to Aaron Carter songs.
Child-friendly or not, the Mel Gibson epic that easily earned its R-rating instilled in the siblings a deep love of movies and inspired them to start making their own homemade films. As kids, they borrowed their parent’s camcorder to capture footage around the block. They even got savvy with special effects, setting off their own fireworks for dramatic flair.
Nearly two decades later, Jake, 30, and Conor, 34, are still making what they refer to as personal home videos. The only difference?...

After the suicide bombing of a party in Indonesia, American Marine/FBI agent Jake Travers (Lutz), posing as a grad student, is bent on vengeance but quickly finds that the world’s problems can’t be solved with violence alone. He teams with a Muslim cop Hashim (Bayu) to hunt down a dangerous international jewel thief – with ties to Indonesian terrorists – Malik (Rourke), who has used the explosion as a cover to kidnap a Sultan’s daughter, Sultana (Hasiholan), in a plot to steal the royal treasury.
Following in the footsteps of Taylor Lautner, another Twilight alumni, Kellan Lutz, tries his hand at action movies with Java Heat – a sweat filled thriller that does nothing to stand out from the action movie crowd.

Kellan Lutz, Mickey Rourke featured in new poster for Java Heat This is actually one of the most popular films we have in our database at the moment and tells of an American in Indonesia who joins forces with a Muslim cop in order to hunt down a terrorist. Connor Allyn, whom I must confess, I've never heard of before, but best of luck to him anyway, directs the film, as well as scripting alongside sibling (I assume) Rob Allyn. Also in the cast are Ario Bayu, Rio Dewanto, Uli Auliani, Mike Duncan and Atiqah Hasiholan. IFC Films distributes the actioner from Margate House, in association with Im Global. Check out all the images (recently updated) from the movie below as well.

[1] Sometime last summer, a report [2] surfaced that Jim Carrey had been offered a part, possibly the lead, in the magician comedy Burt Wonderstone. Steve Carell has since landed the title role, but now it seems Carrey may be interested in climbing aboard in a different capacity. Carrey has entered negotiations for the film, which will be directed by 30 Rock's Don Scardino. Chad Kultgen first drafted the film, then John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein did a rewrite, and Jason Reitman was recently hired [3] to polish the script. The story follows a Vegas magician who breaks up with his stage partner and finds himself upstaged by a younger, hipper illusionist. Carrey's potential character in the film has not been revealed, though I suppose the most obvious guess is that he'll play Wonderstone's former partner.
