The excitement and buzz continues to build for “The Little Mermaid.”
A source tells me that director Rob Marshall and husband, producer John DeLuca, hosted a private screening of Disney’s live adaptation of the 1989 animated classic on Sunday night at New York’s Whitby Hotel.
The guest list of about 80 people included Emily Blunt and John Krasinski, Matt Damon and his family, Emily Mortimer, Ben Platt and his “Parade” co-star Micaela Diamond, Marc Shaiman, Scott Wittman, Bob Balaban and Lynn Grossman, Diane and Brian Sutherland, and Scott Ellis. The film’s composer Alan Menken and Lin-Manuel Miranda, who co-wrote three new songs for the movie, were also there.
I’m told the star-studded audience applauded after each musical number and continued to rave during a post-screening reception. Marshall joked that the evening’s torrential downpour was fitting because it felt like they were truly “under the sea.”

Jensen Ackles and Katheryn Winnick in ‘Big Sky’ season 3 episode 1 (ABC/Michael Moriatis)
A hiker’s threatened by a creepy stranger and falls to his death in the first few minutes of ABC’s Big Sky season three episode one. Plus, it’s disclosed Cassie (Kylie Bunbury) broke up with Mark, and he and Jerrie are off hunting the cartel. (Cassie says what we all think – Mark and Jerrie are good together.) And Jenny (Katheryn Winnick), Cassie, and Denise (Dedee Pfeiffer) all agree Beau really fills out his jeans – all before the opening credits roll.
We also quickly learn the detective agency’s main case this season will be figuring out what happened to the missing hiker.
Beau (Jensen Ackles) scores major points by complimenting Denise’s veggie lasagna. Cassie notes Denise – who she calls Mrs. Robinson – has never cooked lasagna for her as Jenny and Beau head off to work.

Matt Lillard’s career has experienced a resurgance thanks in part to his performance in the Academy Award winning film The Descendants, and his upcoming baseball flick Trouble with the Curve. But wouldn’t you know it, the guy is a director too, and his movie his making its first official debut at SXSW with Fat Kid Rules the World and you can check out the first official trailer below.
Slashfilm (via THR)
You may recognize someone in the cast of relatively unknowns, that’s right it’s Jacob Wysocki who starred in last year’s similarly themed Terri which had similar tones of an overweight kid trying to fit in. The movie follows Wysocki stars as Troy, who attempts to commit suicide by stepping in front of a bus. However, a young rising punk rock star named Marcus (Matt O’Leary) rescues him at the last second and the two develop a friendship.
