Saverio Principini, also known as Sage, is a multi-platinum producer
and songwriter originally from Rome, Italy. As songwriter he has 5
number one hits in Italy with mega star Vasco Rossi. He's been active
in the Los Angeles music scene for over two decades. Saverio started
his career with the nickname Shining as a bass player for cult metal
band Astaroth with whom he toured across Europe and recorded a 4 song
EP on Rave-on Records, known for having discovered King
Diamond's Mercyful Fate. Eventually he moved to California where, after
playing with various local acts, he founded Word who caught the
attention of Virgin Records and ended up recording an album for Virgin
Italy, "Dentro il Giardino" backing up Italian star Alberto
Fortis. The music of Word was extensively used on the CBS Show "Valley Of The Dolls".
After his bands projects ended Saverio dedicated himself fully in
production and songwriting participating in several milestones records of
Italian music, in fact artist such as Vasco Rossi, Eros Ramazzotti,
Laura Pausini, Jovanotti, Piero Pelu', Franco Battiato, Adriano
Celentano and many others have used Saverio's skills to record their
albums in Los Angeles for many years now. Fluent in Italian, English
and Spanish he has arranged , produced and written with stars from all
parts of the world, Diego Torres, Divididos, Myriam Hernandez, Gino
Vannelli, Filippa Giordano just to name a few. Saverio has produced the
vocal sessions of Leona Lewis on her duet with Italian Star Biagio
Antonacci which debuted at number 1 in Italy. He created international
collaboration with Steve Vai and Eros Ramazzotti, Slash and Vasco
Rossi, he has collaborated with Grammy winners producers such has Pat
Leonard, John Shanks, Doyle Bramhall II, Humberto Gatica, he has
written Songs with Gino Vannelli for his classical album Canto on BMG,
produced and written a number of jingles for the Italian version of
many successful cartoons of the Fox Family Network, and has produced
the music for The Pussycat Dolls The Search for the Next... which
premiered on the CW Network and Re-broad-cast with MTV Worldwide.
With his song Funny Game he was a finalist in the John Lennon
Songwriting Contest in the Country Category in the 2002 edition.
Magazines worldwide have enthusiastically reviewed soul singer Amana
Melome's debut album Indigo Red that Saverio fully co-wrote and
produced. He also co-produced 3 songs for Grammy Winner Italian star
Laura Pausini on her multi-million seller album "Yo Canto". In 2007 he
wrote a short Musical for the presentation in Tuscany of the new
venture of historical wine makers Frescobaldi and Mondavi which was
performed in front of an elite crowd in a villa designed by
Michelangelo himself! In 2008 Saverio co-wrote the title track for
Sony-ATV feature film "The Lodger" sung by Opera singer Sasha Lazard.
The song called "Di Notte" was chosen by Sony to be considered for a
nomination for the Academy Awards as best song in a feature film. At
the end of 2008 he released on his indie Label Savana Records a project
called SOUP which features Frank Zappa's historic drummer Vinnie
Colaiuta as a co-writer and guests such as Miles Davis' pianist John
Beasley. Also in 2008 he was asked to write a catalog of music for
the Oprah Winfrey Show. In 2009 Amaia Montero's debut album, on which Saverio was the
executive producer was nominated for a Latin Grammy and broke all
records in Spain as the most consecutive weeks at number 1 in the
charts. In October 2009 he became the artistic director of (H)it Week
LA, a 3 day event in Los Angeles showcasing the best of Italian modern
music in Los Angeles with concerts at the Fonda Music Box, the Broad
Stage of Santa Monica and live performances on KCRW. 2009 ended in the
most positive note for Saverio when the song "Sto Pensando A Te" that
he wrote with Italian bonafide rock star Vasco Rossi went to number 1
in Italy, achieving 5 Platinums and from January to April 2010 was the
most air played song in all Italian radio stations and continuous to be
among the most broadcasts along with over 10 millions hits on You Tube.
He recently produced and released in his label the debut CD of Fabio
Mittino, an Italian guitarist that performed piano music of G.I.
Gurdjieff and Thomas DeHartmann for the first time ever on guitar only.
Principini has
produced the come back album of Italian alternative rockers Tiromancino and
produced indie LA band The Tigers for Amanda Scheer Demme's His and
Hers Compilation that features bands such as Oasis, Daft Punk and Ryan
Adams. In 2010 he entered a World Wide Music Publishing deal
with EMI which ended once the label was acquired by Sony ATV.
In 2017 he signed to STAR SRL a publishing company of Curci Edizioni Musicali Italy, represented by Downtown Music Group in the US.
He also collaborated and produced The Lonely Island including writing one song for their Universal second CD The Wack Album.
Other songs in Italy that picked at number one on the Italian charts have been
Manifesto Futurista, I Soliti and Cambia-Menti, Come Nelle Favole, all sung by Vasco Rossi.
"I Soliti" is the ending song of the movie "Questa Storia Qua"
which debuted at the Venice Film Festival and made headlines in Italy
for the concert like crowds lining up outside movie theater during the
first few weeks of showing.
In recent years he has collaborated and recorded with Ricky Martin, Alejandra Guzman, Club Dogo, Kevin Bacon with whom he played and acted as musical director on the Jimmy Kimmel Show for the Bacon Brothers.
He has produced the debut album for The Voice's Winner Sister Cristina for Universal Records.
He regularly writes for Fox Sports' shows WPT and RTM.
Saverio is a member of Naras (National
Academy of Recording Arts and Science) and Laras and continues to write and produce in his Los Angeles recording facility Speakeasy Studios.
