Ridley Scott’s back-to-back Alien prequels have been given the jazzy new title of Paradise - and not only that, production looks set to begin next year not 2013 and 2014 as inaccurate reports had previously stated.
Scott is returning to space with a two-part prequel, which is said to follow a group of astronauts who are unwittingly turned into prey when they stumble upon a monstrous alien creature – sound familiar?
Well it should, Scott’s original Alien film starring Sigourney Weaver delivered virtually the same storyline, 31 years ago. As the saying goes, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it.
But at least, Alien fans can rely on a set of fresh faces to bring something new to the table. Vulture reports that Scott is interested in Michael Fassbender and Crouching Tiger’s Michelle Yeoh for the lead roles.
It seems everyone is keeping schtum on the film for now.

Apparently we no longer need to use the unwieldy “Ridley Scott’s Alien Prequel(s)”, as it has been given the working title, “Paradise”. Is that any way to describe a grimy, vaguely dystopic future where an acid-blooded alien is trying to rip your head off? Maybe it’s ironic.
Along with this title news, Vulture are reporting all manner of interesting morsels. Firstly, earlier rumours of production being pushed back for a 2013/14 release for the two films seem to be untrue, with Fox apparently committed to moving forward with production in March next year. Next, is the slightly confusing news that the films will be a reboot, with the story following “a group of space travelers who encounter a monstrous alien creature that picks them off, one by one”. Sounds a lot like a straight remake, rather than the mythology expanding ideas that Scott expressed in his interview a little while back.

The Alien prequel has been delayed until 2013 due to whatever problems have arrived this time. Before it was Ridley Scott fighting with Fox over the budget, then word was floating around about the script, or whatever. It's interesting news seeing as recently, visual FX designer Henry South in a now deleted tweet said, “Started work on alien prequel today!! Absolutely stunning. Worth waiting till late 2011 for peeps!” In addition to this, Scott told World Screen magazine last month that, “It’s written and budgeted and, frankly, we’ve already booked film stages in England, so I think [it will happen soon].”...

Lot of small sequel rumblings and rumors are flying about, so let's kick things off with one of the few bits that has a substantiated quote. Speaking to MovieMikes [1], Ernie Hudson says that Bill Murray is part of the holdup around Ghostbusters 3. "I know he really cares about his work," the actor says, "which is probably why there hasn’t been another Ghostbusters as of yet. Dan and Harold are working on the script. If it happens we will see but Bill has been the hold up. His definition of good is a little bit different than everybody else's." Fortunately, the balance of his work over the past few years (even factoring in stinkers like Garfield and Passion Play) Bill Murray's definition of 'good' is pretty much...good. I'll take a Bill Murray failure like City of Ember over Year One. After the break, news and rumors on the long-rumored Trainspotting sequel,...

It looks like Ridley Scott's new Alien prequel has run into some more problems. While Scott has been prepping up to direct two new Alien prequels, he hit a delay due to the high budget and rating issues. Shortly after that news hit, FX supervisor Henry South confirmed on his twitter that production design had started, which got everyone excited that the film project was moving forward.
Now its being reported by the folks over at scriptflags that Fox Studio has pushed the release date of the film 12 months all the way back to 2013, and the film's sequel to 2014. No reason was given on why the film got pushed back. Fox seemed to be really excited about Damon Lindelof's script, so I don't know why they don't want to jump into production.
The word is that Noomi Rapace and Olivia Wilde are the two front runners for the lead role in the film.

We have learned, via tweet from Henry South, a visual FX designer working on the Alien prequel, that production has officially begun!
Here is Henry's tweet:
Started work on alien prequel today!! Absolutely stunning. Worth waiting till late 2011 for peeps!
It has been reported that Ridley Scott will be returning to the franchise he began with the original film. The search continues to find the perfect leading lady after it was announced that the prequel would feature a new lead character, rather than the iconic Ripley, played by Sigourney Weaver.
Currently the list of leading ladies includes Noomi Rapace, Carey Mulligan, Abbie Cornish, Natalie Portman and Olivia Wilde. As of now Rapace, continues to rise to the top and is Scott's current favorite for the part. Right now there is no official release date other than 2011, mentioned above.
I am on Team Rapace for the lead. Her performances in the Millenium Trilogy were amazing,...

Master of the disaster flick Roland Emmerich has scrapped plans for a low-budget alien invasion film called The Zone.
It would have been made in a 'found footage' style, like Cloverfield and Paranormal Activity, in which discovered video recordings reveal extraordinary events.
Peter Mackenzie and Brandon Scott were set to play a journalist and cameraman who witness the arrival of extraterrestrials.
But The Hollywood Reporter says Emmerich (pictured) is no longer pursuing the $5million project.
Speculation suggests the reason is that the mockumentary and alien invasion genres are becoming too crowded.
Only recently, I detailed the numerous alien films coming up (including Ridley Scott's Aliens prequel duology which, according to a tweet from visual effects designer Henry South, has now entered pre-production).
The latest entry is Apollo 18, to be produced by Wanted director Timur Bekmambetov. This low-budget project, about secret missions to the moon and the discovery of alien lifeforms,...
