The idea is quite simple, and its simplicity doesn’t bother me at first glance. The title Sixty Minutes reminds me of movies like 88 Minutes, but the plot of this movie is not based on any bomb that has to be defused or a criminal has to be caught. The story of Sixty Minutes revolves around the life of an Mma fighter who has to decide whether to participate in his next fight or travel a fair distance and meet his daughter before 6 pm, which, if you are good at decoding movie titles, means that he has to make this choice at 5 pm.
The stakes of this movie are interesting and a little bit silly at the same time. If our Mma fighter doesn’t reach his daughter in time, then he might lose custody of her. Before you ask, there isn’t a court case going on; it’s just her birthday,...

U.S. distribution deals for German films are of great strategic value for international rollouts, but lucrative prospects largely depend on the type of film on offer.
The spectrum of German film continues to broaden, encompassing everything from arthouse, historical drama and family entertainment to animation, action and horror – not to mention English-language German productions.
“With German-language dramas that do well at festivals and gain some prestige, you do have high chances of finding a passionate U.S. indie distributor who will release your film in limited cinemas in New York, L.A., Chicago and other major U.S. cities,” says Moritz Hemminger, deputy head of sales and acquisitions at Arri Media.
“Economically, the U.S., for those kind of films, isn’t always the most financially lucrative market, but a sale there helps for the international sales strategy, as a U.S. distribution deal can trigger international sales in other territories,...

Oliver Kienle's third film is a romantic comedy that proves once again that opposites attract. On 7 June, Oliver Kienle wrapped principal photography for his third feature, following Stronger Than Blood (2010) and Four Hands (2017): the romantic comedy Isi & Ossi is a Netflix title that was shot in one month in Berlin and Baden-Württemberg, as well as Mannheim and Heidelberg. The director penned the movie himself. The protagonists of this love story, played by Lisa Vicari and Dennis Mojen, are polar opposites: Isi is a billionaire’s daughter from Heidelberg, while Ossi is a struggling boxer from nearby Mannheim. When they meet, their first thought is that they can take advantage of each other: she dates him to provoke her parents and to get them to fund her dream to train as a chef in New York; he wants to rip off the rich girl to finance his first...

Cologne, Germany -- The next generation of German directors likes a bit of rough.
Nominations, announced today, for the First Steps Award for debut films, includes unflinching looks at drug abuse, prison violence and religious unrest.
Philip Koch's "Picco," which debuted in Cannes and is being sold by France's Rezo Films, is a harrowing tale of a juvenile delinquent systematically tortured and killed by his cellmates in a German prison. Oliver Kienle's "Bis aufs Blut" follows two friends and drug dealers who survive the hell of youth prison and emerge ready to make one final deal. And Burhan Qurbani's "Shahada," a competition entry at the Berlin Festival this year, sets the religious ferment of Germany's Muslim community against the background of a hostile, often violent, Berlin.
The other two nominees for First Step's feature length film prize provide some relief: Sebastian Stern's "Die Hummel" (Bumblebee) is...
