“They/Them,” a new Blumhouse slasher that promises a queer take on the horror genre, is set to go straight to streaming on Peacock next month. But before that, the film received a full in-person theatrical screening, as the closing night premiere of Los Angeles queer film festival Outfest.
“This is the perfect place,” Kevin Bacon, who plays the film’s chief villain Owen Whistler, told Variety on the red carpet.
“They/Them” is a slasher horror film set in a gay conversion therapy camp. “When we learned we were going to be in Outfest, let alone the closing night, we were absolutely thrilled,” Bacon said. “I don’t generally get to see my films with an audience, especially these days. When they’re made for a platform, you don’t get a chance to see how it plays. So this is really exciting.”

With much of the world self-isolating and most cinemas closed, streaming services are becoming increasingly the focus of where people will access home entertainment. Giants like Netflix, Amazon and Hulu are releasing new content all the time but horror specialist channel Shudder has decided to keep gore hounds entertained while stuck in their homes by extending their standard 7 day free trial period to 30 days if you use the promo code Shutin.
The code works for new members in the Us, Canada, UK, and Ireland signing up via Shudder.com
Shudder made the announcement via social media and said it would also be posting daily recommendations on Twitter with the #ShudderShutIn hashtag. In the Us there’s also a ‘Shut In’ collection featuring people trapped, including titles like Escape From New York and Audition, should you wish to be comforted by the thought “at least I’m not locked in with the Kiri Kiri Kiri lady.

Another year has come and gone, and it was another great one for horror. Theatrical horror, indie horror, physical media, streaming, books, TV—there was so much good stuff I couldn’t even get to all of it, though I gave it my best effort. Here are some of my favorites of 2019 in no particular order.
Shudder: In just a few short years, Shudder has become the single most essential must-have for every horror fan. Their library grows more expansive and impressive every week, their curation of beloved favorites, smaller and lesser-known indies, and horror from around the globe impeccable. This year alone they featured the likes of Tigers Are Not Afraid, the Tom Savini documentary Smoke and Mirrors, One Cut of the Dead, Belzebuth, The Furies, Get My Gun, Hagazussa, Knife + Heart, The Ranger, the documentary Horror Noire, The Head Hunter, and so, so many more. With such a busy week now behind us, it’s time to catch up on a few reviews, so you all know what that means…the review round-up is back! Yes, today we’ve got a pair of films to discuss that I wanted to make sure didn’t get ignored. One is the horror comedy Satanic Panic, while the other is the psychological drama Strange But True. Both movies are interesting little independent offerings likely to be swallowed up by the big new release this weekend, but are they better? Well, read on below to see my thoughts on both flicks, at least one of which is a really fun alternative to the larger genre offering in multiplexes now. Read on to find out more… Satanic Panic There’s a small stroke of genius to be found within Satanic Panic, which finds an amusing way to skewer the rich...

This punky, anything goes horror-comedy is the feature debut from director Chelsea Stardust, and while it suffers from a rocky first act, some hit-and-miss gags and a general low-budget feel, it quickly finds its feet along the way. I was surprised at how much fun I had with this film. If you can enter into the spirit of things, Satanic Panic would make a fine Friday night movie to watch with friends.

On Friday, September 6th, director Chelsea Stardust’s Satanic Panic will be hitting select theaters and will also be arriving on digital platforms as well. Featuring a brilliant cast that includes Rebecca Romijn, Jerry O’Connell, Ruby Modine, Jordan Ladd, Aj Bowen, Jeff Daniel Phillips, as well as up-and-coming actress Hayley Griffith, with a screenplay from Grady Hendrix, Stardust’s infectiously funny horror comedy is centered on a pizza delivery girl (Griffith) who gets more than she bargains for after she decides to confront a group of rich weirdos who stiff her on a tip, and realizes they have sinister plans for both her and her virgin status.
Daily Dead had the opportunity to speak with Stardust recently, and she discussed how she originally became involved with Satanic Panic after already being a fan of the script, her experiences working with her brilliant cast, experiencing the film on the road with various audiences,...

Chelsea Stardust exorcises handsy demons and passes round the hat in the horror comedy film Satanic Panic.
The upcoming Satanic Panic is a good-natured sendup of all things bad. Since Penny Lane's documentary Hail Satan?, it seems devil worshippers are putting their best hooves forward in an effort to mainstream. Not the ones who do it right, of course, the elite few who go the extra mile to truly plum the darkness and depravity of demonic surrender. The ones who get rich off it, and aren’t afraid to sacrifice a virgin or two along the way: The diabolical one-percenters who don't pay taxes and certainly don't tip pizza delivery drivers.
These one-percenters are people like Danica Ross, though she isn't exactly a person. Played by Rebecca Romijn, she and her followers live by an unforgiving code as dictated by the "triple-faced fuck monster of remorseless intent and illuminator of poisonous knowledge,...

Screenwriter Grady Hendrix calms some fears about the rising Satanic Panic.
Directed by Chelsea Stardust (All That We Destroy), the upcoming horror comedy Satanic Panic plays fast and loose with demonic forces. It changes the standard virgin sacrifice into a quarterly earnings celebration and Tupperware pep talk, but does it with midnight movie mythology. Hayley Griffith (The Loudest Voice) plays the virgin, Sam, a little low on gas but high in spirit. The high priestess of the satanic cabal is Danica Ross played by Rebecca Romijn. Her followers pledge themselves to Baphomet, and incur the playful wrath of a lesser demon because they didn't read the fine print.
The devil is always in the details, and novelist Grady Hendrix, who wrote the screenplay from a story he wrote with Ted Geoghegan, can find them with the Dewey Decimal System. Hendrix, who wrote My Best Friend's Exorcism (2016) among other funny fright films,...

Happy September, dear readers! The best time of the year is upon us, where the weather is getting cooler, kids are back in school, and we have a brand new batch of movies to get excited about coming to both the big and small screens throughout the next few months.
In September, we’ve got It Chapter Two, Satanic Panic, Rob Zombie’s 3 From Hell, Bliss, Villains (one of my absolutely favorite films of 2019 thus far), Haunt, Freaks, Artik, Ad Astra, and so many more films on the docket, which should get you primed for Halloween season.
Then, October kicks off with the already polarizing Joker, followed up by the animated Addams Family movie, Along Came the Devil 2, Mary, Bong Joon Ho’s Parasite (my most anticipated movie of the fall season), Robert Egger’s The Lighthouse, Trick from Patrick Lussier, Zombieland 2, and Travis Stevens’ The Girl on the...

"Death to the weak, wealth to the strong!" Rlje Films has unveiled an official trailer for the indie horror comedy Satanic Panic, which premiered at the Overlook Film Festival this year. This also stopped by the Oak Cliff Film Festival, and just played at the Fantasia Film Festival this summer. The film is about a pizza delivery girl at the end of her financial rope who has to fight for her life - and her tips - when her last order of the night turns out to be high society Satanists in need of a virgin sacrifice. Starring newcomer Hayley Griffith as Sam, with Ruby Modine, Rebecca Romijn, Arden Myrin, Jerry O'Connell, Jordan Ladd, Whitney Moore, Clarke Wolfe, and Aj Bowen. Cinepocalypse 2019 Review: Satanic Panic is Everything a Horror Kid Could Want Out of a Horror Movie
Well, that was just what I needed.
After several days of programming that was alternately bleak and grim at Chicago’s Cinepocalypse genre festival this year, along came Chelsea Stardust’s latest film, Satanic Panic, to serve as the wild, bloody kick in the ass I was looking for. This is a movie that knows exactly what it wants to give its audience and then overdelivers in those departments. It’s a blast.
The movie, Stardust’s second feature, stars the incredibly likable Hayley Griffith as Sam, a sweet, innocent twentysomething working her first day delivering pizzas. When she takes a job delivering to an address outside of her zone, she stumbles upon a group of Satan worshippers led by Rebecca Romijn looking to sacrifice a virgin and bring about the birth of an all-powerful demon. Wouldn’t you just know that Sam fits the bill of what they’re looking for?...

When gullible 22-year-old virgin Sam (Hayley Griffith) takes on a gig delivering pizzas to make ends meet, she quickly discovers that it's not going to be as easy as she'd anticipated. Her pizza joint gets a call from the bougiest part of town, and when no one else will take it, Sam steps up, hoping a big order will mean a big tip. However, instead of leaving with spending cash, she finds herself in the middle of a Satanic black mass meant to solidify the wealth of this community populated by old money aristocrats, led by the ultra prim Danica (Rebecca Romijn). Short one virgin for their sacrifice to the lord of...

It’s great to see Fangoria back in action and producing horror movies! I really enjoyed their last film Puppet Master: The Littlest Reich. It really captured the greatness of those old-school B-horror films.
Their next movie is a horror comedy called Satanic Panic, which is said to include “a healthy dash of imaginative gore.” Rebecca Romijn (Star Trek: Discovery, X-Men) is set to star in the Chelsea Stardust-directed film.
The plot follows a pizza delivery girl (Hayley Griffith) at the end of her financial rope who has to fight for her life — and her tips — when her last order of the night turns out to be high society Satanists (led by Romijn) in need of a virgin sacrifice.
Sounds like it will be a silly fun horror film! Romijn and Griffith will be joined by Ruby Modine (Happy Death Day), Arden Myrin (Insatiable), Jerry O’Connell (Carter), Aj Bowen...

The Satanic Panic cast also includes newcomer Hayley Griffith as well as […]
