“Outlander” fans were out in force last weekend, congregating down under in Sydney and Melbourne for Hublander: A Visit to the Highlands, a first-of-its-kind convention for the TV blockbuster, featuring an hour-long Q&a with star Sam Heughan and hilarious hour-long chats with co-stars Duncan Lacroix, John Bell and Charles Vandervaart.
Gold Derby attended the event and was the only media outlet with exclusive one-on-one access to the show’s leading man backstage. “Good to see you guys, in person and not on Zoom! It’s just amazing, we’re having the best time,” Heughan declared. “It’s great to see all the fans down under and it’s so nice to see the fans come from all over.” Watch our exclusive video interview above.

2023 was a year full of highs and lows for fans of “Outlander.” High: Their favorite romance epic returned for Season 7, Part 1 (which aired from June 16 to August 11) after more than a year-long drought. Low: But it just failed to receive any Golden Globe nominations on the morning of Monday, December 11. High: Starz officially green-lighted a prequel series titled “Outlander: Blood of My Blood,” to air in the near future. Low: But that meant the parent series would officially be ending with Season 8. Deep breaths, “Outlander” fans — we’ll all get through this together.
Voters of the Golden Globe association snubbed “Outlander” in the top Best Drama Series category, and its leading stars — Caitriona Balfe as Claire Fraser for Best Drama Actress and Sam Heughan as Jamie Fraser for Best Drama Actor — were skunked, too. So why was Season 7, Part 1 of “Outlander” not nominated at the 2024 Golden Globes?

It’s been a tumultuous time for the Frasers and the MacKenzies in Outlander season seven, with Roger (Richard Rankin) and Bree’s (Sophie Skelton) son kidnapped in the 1980s, and the American Revolutionary War beginning back in the 18th century, where Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie (Sam Heughan) struggle to stay alive amid mounting violence.
The seventh episode of season seven, “A Practical Guide For Time-Travelers”, leaves us with a shocking cliffhanger after Jamie faces the British forces in battle, with his illegitimate son William (Charles Vandervaart) fighting for the British during the First Battle of Saratoga. [This interview was conducted prior to the SAG-AFTRA strike authorization.] Outlander‘s seventh season paves the way for America’s Revolutionary War, and on either side of the fight are Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) and his son William (Charles Vandervaart). The gravity of this situation has yet to be fully unveiled as Jamie and Claire (Caitriona Balfe) flee Fort Ticonderoga at the end of Episode 5, “Singapore,” just as William bids the Hunters farewell to take up arms with the red coats. The brewing battle isn’t entirely new to the Frasers, though. As viewers have seen over the years, the couple, comprised of a World War II combat nurse-turned-doctor and an 18th-century Highlander warrior, have gone through the Battle of Culloden together and, more recently, the Battle of Alamance, where they lost Jamie’s godfather, Murtaugh (Duncan Lacroix). (Credit: Starz) Now, Jamie could be approaching a battlefront manned by his biological son William who still...

Starz’s Outlander season seven episode five splits time between Brianna starting work in her new job as Plant Inspector and Jamie, Claire, and Ian’s experiences in Fort Ticonderoga.
The episode begins with Brianna (Sophie Skelton) finding Jemmy and Mandy in the old family graveyard and reminding them it’s not a playground. Jem admits that Mandy wanted to speak to granddad, although no one knows if that’s where he’s buried. Bree agrees it’s possible, and Jem confesses that he built a cairn for Jamie.
It’s too difficult for Bree even to enter the graveyard, so she remains at the gate. She’s not ready to take that step yet.
Bree returns home and holds more of her mom and dad’s letters. Roger (Richard Rankin) joins her, and she explains that the kids visit Jamie...

Season 7 of “Outlander” began airing on June 16, which means it’s ineligible to compete at the current 2023 Emmys — that’s why it’s not nominated for anything on Wednesday morning. (See the list of nominations.) Even if Starz’s sweeping romance epic had aired within the eligibility period of June 2022 – May 2023, it’s unlikely Emmy voters would have showered it with much love. Why? Because, shockingly, “Outlander” hasn’t been nominated in any category in the past five years.
To date, the cult TV series has only received a grand total of four bids: music composition (2015), period production design (2016) and period costumes (2016 and 2018). The list of egregious snubs includes lead actors Caitriona Balfe (who plays time-traveling doctor Claire Randall Fraser) and Sam Heughan (who plays her Highlander true love Jamie Fraser), plus all of the show’s writers, directors and producers.

Richard Rankin and Sophie Skelton in ‘Outlander’ season 7 episode 4 (Photo Credit: Starz)
Starz’s Outlander season seven episode four opens with a short time jump to Lallybroch in 1980. Two years have passed since Brianna (Sophie Skelton) and Roger (Richard Rankin) purchased the property, and the family’s living in a mobile home in the front yard while it’s being repaired. Jemmy and Mandy have reached the fighting siblings stage, and Mandy hits her older brother with a stick. Mandy only grudgingly says she’s sorry.
It’s revealed Bree and Roger won’t let the workers paint over the dining room murals or fix a large spot on the wall. There’s still so much work to be done that the estimate’s jumped up to what Bree describes as an “astronomical” figure. They’re halfway through their money and not even close to having bedrooms at this point.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Outlander Season 7, Episode 2, “The Happiest Place on Earth.”] Outlander is drawing a line in the sand between longtime friends Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) and Lord John Grey (David Berry) in the latest Season 7 episode, “The Happiest Place on Earth.” Once on opposing sides during the Jacobite rebellion in Scotland, the Revolutionary War in America also puts them on different sides of the fight, which Jamie intends to avoid, considering his biological son William’s (Charles Vandervaart) involvement in the fight. Still, the men agreed to maintain their friendship through it all, even if Berry hints at hardships ahead. (Credit: Starz) “Lord John and Jamie find themselves on opposite sides of the war,” the actor notes. Lord John’s a loyalist, and Jamie is a rebel. These two have come to a point in their relationship where it’s pretty much untenable.” While they part ways in the episode with positivity...

After keeping us in Fraser’s Ridge for multiple seasons — featuring a slew of frustrating but not always interesting villains, and at the cusp of the Revolutionary War — “Outlander” Season 7 feels like a breath of fresh air.
The season premiere begins where we’ve been before: a determined Jamie (Sam Heughan) with Ian (John Bell) at his side, out to save his beloved Claire (Caitríona Balfe) from being tried for the death of Malva Christie (Jessica Reynolds). Claire, meanwhile, does what she can to survive — and she has truly perfected the art of keeping her wits about her while facing impending doom.
But unlike other seasons that bludgeoned and violated our heroine in unnecessarily graphic ways, we’re given a respite here. Instead, Claire’s looming trial and potential execution are delayed in part thanks to her skills as a doctor and because of the era’s political unrest, with Jamie always one step behind.

The final season of “Outlander” is almost here and the cast are placing their bets on how it all ends.
The show’s leads, Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan, are just hoping for a happy ending for their tragic couple.
“I don’t know, but I would like to see them happy at the end,” Balfe told Et Canada’s Keisha Chante when asked to predict the ending of the show. “You know, I would like to see them just sitting on a porch, being able to put their feet up, have a nice cup of tea.”
While they hoped for greener pastures for their characters, some of the other cast members had more extreme predictions.

For fans of the Starz hit series “Outlander,” the time spent waiting between seasons can feel like an eternity. The sixth season concluded just over a year ago, and in that time the cast and crew have been hard at work to bring out another season of the show. We also received the bittersweet announcement at the end of March that the show’s eighth season would be its last.
Season 6 left us with a monster of a cliffhanger, with Claire (Caitriona Balfe) getting arrested and sent to prison for murder and Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Ian (John Bell) setting off on a mission to get her back. Never a dull moment for the Frasers. Thankfully, the wait is almost over. Season 7 premieres on Starz on June 16. Starz has released the first trailer for “Outlander” Season 7, which will premiere June 16.
The new season, inspired in part by Diana Gabaldon’s “Outlander” book series, will waste no time getting into action, picking up on the harrowing events of the Season 6 finale where Jamie (Sam Heugan) and Young Ian (John Bell) were racing to rescue Claire (Caitriona Balfe) before she was tried and wrongfully convicted for the murder of Malva Christie (Jessica Reynolds).
In true “Outlander” fashion, nothing comes easy; the trailer depicts much hardship to come for the Frasers and those they love. The American Revolution is in full swing and the chaos that comes with an emerging nation means the land they once called home is changing. Will Jamie, Claire, Brianna (Sophie Skelton), Roger (Richard Rankin) and their loved ones be able to change with it is a key question this season.

Claire and Jamie’s epic romance has withstood almost everything under the sun, and the Revolutionary War is no exception.
Picking up from the contentious Season 6 finale, the seventh installment of “Outlander” kicks off with Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Young Ian (John Bell) racing against the clock to save Claire (Caitríona Balfe) before she is tried for the murder of Malva Christie, of which she was wrongly accused. “Outlander” is giving fans a little more time before they have to say goodbye — and giving subscribers more of a reason to sign up for a full year instead of just a few months. Season 7 of the time-travel romance will air in two parts, Starz said on Wednesday, with the first half airing this year and the second half waiting for 2024.
Season 7, as previously announced, consists of 16 episodes, the show’s highest order count since Season 1. Like Season 1, which aired in 2014 and 2015, Season 7 will be split into two eight-episode bunches — the “Droughtlander” is officially over on June 16. “Outlander” has already been renewed for a final Season 8, which will consist of 10 episodes and presumably air in 2025 or later.
It is currently unclear if the show, based on Diana Gabaldon’s series of historical-fantasy romance novels, will completely adapt the entire saga. Each season of “Outlander” thus far has adapted (roughly) one...

“Outlander” Season 7 will resume Claire (Caitríona Balfe) and Jamie’s (Sam Heughan) sprawling and globe-trotting love story in June on Starz, the network announced Thursday while also revealing the first images from the new season.
The penultimate season of the time-traveling drama will debut June 16 with the first eight episodes of its extended 16-episode season, with the second half of the two-part season set to premiere in 2024.
After previously announcing the drama would come to a close after Season 8, Starz has already renewed the series for an eighth and final season. “Outlander” fans are in no danger of letting go of the beloved characters, however, as the network has also greenlit a prequel series, titled “Outlander: Blood of My Blood,” which will follow Jamie Fraser’s parents.
