Fresh off his latest BAFTA win for The Sixth Commandment, Timothy Spall’s next project has been revealed.
The Harry Potter star is leading Death Valley with Welsh actress Gwyneth Keyworth (Black Mirror) for the BBC.
Written and created by Paul Doolan (Mammoth) and set in Wales, Death Valley follows the unlikely crime-solving partnership between eccentric national treasure John Chapel (Spall), a retired actor and star of hit fictional detective TV show Caesar, and disarming detective sergeant Janie Mallowan (Keyworth). Thrown together by the murder of John’s neighbor, John and Janie are an odd, yet hilarious duo with opposing instincts, and each week they get to the bottom of gripping murders.
“I’m really looking forward to teaming up with the brilliant Gwyneth Keyworth and the fantastically talented team of creatives and technicians on this new and unique comedy drama,” said Spall.
BBC Studios is producing and distributing, and filming will begin next month.

Channel 4-backed U.K. independent content production company Spirit Studios has teamed with James Watt, co-founder of multinational brewery BrewDog, to produce “Mission Finpossible,” a drama documentary aiming to to highlight the issues facing the world’s shark species. Humans kill over 120 million sharks a year, mainly for their fins for soup and many shark species are now under considerable risk of unrecoverable decline with some species having declined to near extinction in recent years. The shark is an apex predator and crucial to maintaining healthy ocean ecosystems.
Spirit Studios, whose previous content activism campaigns include global mental health movement #Iamwhole, will produce the documentary that will feature an original scripted element together with input from the world’s leading shark experts and archive footage. BrewDog is funding the project and will also produce an exclusive beer to raise funds for shark support groups around the world. The...

Horrible things happen in “Black Mirror,” which can be pretty hard to watch. Fortunately, these dark tales have attracted some amazing talent, some of whom are well known and others less so. Regardless of their resume, these actors have the unenviable task of taking such challenging and often off-putting stories and making them not just compelling, but relatable as well. Whether it’s serving as the comic relief, the everyman caught in a frightening situation, a politician asked to do the unthinkable, or a crazed villain that haunts our dreams, these characters become palpably real in this grim reflection of our world.

E4’s new comedy, starting tonight, about a group of West Country 20-somethings boasts a star turn from Sean Bean…
Looking back now, the most outlandish part of brilliantly inventive 1999 sitcom Spaced isn’t a movie parody, cutaway gag or eccentric character, but the idea that you could rent a fully furnished two-bedroom flat in Zone Two for ninety quid a week. If Tim Bisley and Daisy Steiner were house-hunting in London today, they’d be forced to pack up their Gillian Anderson posters and typewriter and head back to their respective hometowns to crash on a mate’s sofa.
That’s the fate of Kent (Dylan Edwards) in the first episode of Wasted, a new UK comedy series starting tonight on E4.
Having failed to make it as a Bristol-based DJ, Kent goes back to the village of Neston Berry and to the bosom of his...

It's been a long wait, but Elfie Hopkins and the Gammons is finally shooting in Wales.
The independent horror feature film stars Jaime Winstone as a grungy wannabe detective who attempts to uncover the human flesh-eating truth about the close-knit Gammon family.
The film is directed and co-written by Ryan Andrews who told Shock Till You Drop
"After meeting Jaime I knew she could become the main focus [for] something really special and unique in British horror fantasy terms. Elfie is a finely tuned representation of my own childhood memories growing up in rural Wales. I often used to imagine myself as a vampire hunter let loose on a community of surreal country folk. Riyad and I have taken those already magnified experiences and transformed them further into a combination of British twee and American grunge – a weird mash-up of two worlds with a heightened reality comic-strip feel informed by everything...

Jaime Winstone (Donkey Punch) will star alongside her father, Ray Winstone (Beowulf) in Ryan Andrews‘ cannibal thriller Elfie Hopkins and the Gammons.
Elfie Hopkins and the Gammons might sound like a new animated adventure for under the 12′s. This is just so wrong. Hot chick, cannibals, blood, fighting, violence, and flipping Beowulf himself, do you really need more to get you excited. Jamie will play the title role, a quirky wannabe detective investigating the Gammons, a weird new family who make move into the village. Ray will play the local butcher. This is the first time both actors have worked together.
Speaking about the role Jaime has said:
Elfie Hopkins has been an alter ego of mine for a while now and I can’t wait for the world to meet her. She’ll kick ass! For me, Elfie’s a dream role to play and I feel there is...

'Elfie Hopkins and the Gammons' might sound like a new animated adventure for under the under 12's but in fact it's a new British cannibal horror which is set to star everyone's favourite Brit hardman Ray Winstone. And now his very own daughter, actress Jaime Winstone ('Donkey Punch', 'Dead Set'), is set to play the title role. Jaime (below) will play Elfie, a quirky 'wanna-be' detective whose appetite for a real-life case is matched by the appetites of a new family (The Gammons) who move into the village. Ray Winstone plays the local butcher and meat is definitely on the menu...The story, a twisted tale of cannibalism set in a British rural hunting village, is set to begin shooting from 8 March in and around the Cardiff, Wales area. Kimberley Nixon, Aneurin Barnard, Gwyneth Keyworth, Amanda Drew and Will Payne are all reportedly co-starring.

Emily Blunt, Rebecca Hall and Robert Pattinson have made it. Stuart Heritage tries to sift the stars from the waiters at the Screen International Stars of Tomorrow reception
Walking into the Screen International Stars of Tomorrow reception is a supremely disconcerting experience. If history is any indication – previous events helped to launch the careers of Robert Pattinson, James McAvoy and Emily Blunt – then you know you're about to share oxygen with actors who will soon become world-conquering celebrities. The problem, for me at least, is figuring out who any of them are.
I deliberately chose to go into the event blind; partly because I thought it'd be fun to treat the whole thing as a big game of Cluedo, and partly because I couldn't spot talent if it attacked me with a hammer. At the 2009 Baftas, I saw Dev Patel running up and down the red carpet and assumed that...
