It is absolutely unbelievable, but we've almost reached the end of Grey's Anatomy's twentieth season.
This week, tons of excitement is happening at Grey Sloan as the writers get us ready for next week's season finale.
Catherine has discovered the truth about what Meredith has been up to, and she's out for blood on Grey's Anatomy Season 20 Episode 9.
This week was pretty fast-paced, which was a nice change after a few slower episodes that focused more on surgical cases than character development.
The first big reveal of the hour was the return of Maggie Pierce, a divisive character the likes of whom we haven't seen in about a year.
People have strong feelings about this character and how she fits into the Grey's Anatomy universe, but I have always loved her.
I'll always be a sucker for the way the writers tied Meredith, Maggie, and Amelia together into a sisterhood,...

Some TV shows struggle to maintain consistently high quality writing and production over the course of a few seasons. When it comes to 10 years of the exact same story, fans can forgive the team a few lapses. With 20 seasons under its belt, the show becomes truly legendary, no matter what nonsense happens on screen.
But all great things must come to an end. Though many predicted Grey's Anatomy's demise with this season, as the show's titular character, Meredith Grey, took a backseat, it didn't happen. Now, fans believe that the show's 21st season will likely be its last, if the show continues to move in the same direction.

Grey’s Anatomy is no stranger to losing major cast members. In recent years, it even lost the character the show is named after, although Meredith Grey at least returns occasionally for guest appearances. However, the end of the current season will see two characters leaving the show.
Here is a look at the news on the latest Grey’s Anatomy character exit.
Grey’s Anatomy Losing Two Cast Members
News broke earlier this week that Grey’s Anatomy was losing actor Jake Borelli as part of budget cuts demanded by ABC. Jake plays Levi Schmitt and has been a regular cast member for five years and appeared on the show for seven seasons now. The next few episodes will wrap up his character’s storyline in preparation for his exit.

No matter how hard Grey's Anatomy tries to bring back the nostalgic feel of the early seasons, it doesn't seem to be happening anytime soon. Though Season 20 started off strong as an anniversary season, it has since proven that the writers aren't able to keep that feeling going forever without the cast.
Arizona's comeback, while a highlight of the season, lasted only 1 episode and was immediately forgotten. Episodes with more Ellen Pompeo appearances were enjoyed more than any other. And now that the only new character who really resembled a former fan favorite is leaving, the show will have to look for something else to keep viewers coming back.
Why Is Mika Yasuda Leaving Grey’s Anatomy?
Even though it's unfair to reduce a character to just Cristin Yang's replacement, many fans felt that it was a good thing. Mika Yasuda, portrayed by Midori Francis, managed to touch so many people's...

Grey’s Anatomy goes through a shakeup every few years that clears out some of its beloved cast.
After the news of Jake Borelli’s departure amid budget cuts, another player joined him on the way out before production gets underway on Grey’s Anatomy Season 21.
Deadline reports that Midori Francis, who has played Mika Yasuda for the last two seasons, will not return as a series regular.
The news is surprising given that Grey’s Anatomy ushered in a new era last season by introducing a new crop of interns.
Mika had cemented herself as a firm fixture at Grey Sloan Memorial and was expected to continue for years.
But with budget cuts, the show may not even be on the air for the years to come.
Why is Midori Francis leaving Grey’s Anatomy?
Deadline hinted that Francis’ departure is an amicable decision as the actor plots the next phase of her career after signing with WME.

Big changes are ahead for Grey’s Anatomy. The long-running medical drama has been renewed for Season 21, but the show’s making some major moves next season. The ABC drama is moving to 10 p.m. on Thursdays and will reportedly be losing series regulars Jake Borelli and Midori Francis amid a budget cut. Will Season 21 be the end of the road for Grey’s Anatomy? “Not at all,” Disney TV Group President Craig Erwich told Deadline. He explained that the timeslot move from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m. is a “great opportunity for ABC to launch a new show [Doctor Odyssey], as well as to keep Grey’s on a night where it’s been extraordinarily successful for many years.” The show is nearing the end of its milestone 20th season and remains the longest-running medical drama on TV. “I think the show is creatively firing on all cylinders and continues to...

Exclusive: Grey Sloan is losing a surgical intern. Midori Francis, who has played Mika Yasuda on Grey’s Anatomy for the last two seasons, is departing the medical drama as a series regular, Deadline has learned. According to sources, Francis is in negotiations to return next season to wrap up the story of her character.
I hear this was an amicable decision. Francis had been looking to branch out for the next step of her career and signed with WME earlier this year. She is the second Grey’s Anatomy series regular who will be departing early next season, along with Jake Borelli who has played Levi Schmitt for seven seasons. Reps for ABC and ABC Signature, which produces Grey’s Anatomy, declined comment.

Grey’s Anatomy already has cemented its place in the TV history books. Now it’s just about enhancing its legacy. But like every long-running series on broadcast, the hit medical drama also has to abide by the budget constraints imposed by parent media companies, which have been reigning in costs. As Deadline reported exclusively yesterday, Grey’s Anatomy has been asked to trim its budget for its upcoming 21st season, which will impact the cast.
Additionally, ABC this morning unveiled its fall schedule where Grey’s is shifting from 9 Pm to 10 Pm on Thursdays. Deadline asked Disney TV Group President Craig Erwich whether the moves signal a potential end game for the show.

Grey’s Anatomy is a relic by broadcast TV standards, but the long-running medical drama is about to get another shakeup.
Deadline reports that the renewal for Season 21 came with a pretty big caveat — a reduced budget.
The longer a TV series is on the air, the more costly it is to produce episodes.
Broadcast TV has always been a numbers game, and with reduced ratings across the board, changes have to be made to make shows profitable.
The first significant change is Jake Borelli’s departure.
Borelli, who played Levi Schmitt, has been a series regular for five seasons.
Levi Schmitt may get an ending
While the actor is not returning as a series regular, negotiations are underway to bring him back for a multi-episode arc during Grey’s Anatomy Season 21 to give Levi a satisfactory conclusion.

Grey’s Anatomy is the latest show to be working its way around cost-saving methods, with one of its series regulars exiting soon. Season 20 will be the last full one for Jake Borelli, who stars as Dr. Levi Schmitt, according to Deadline. However, don’t expect the finale, which airs on Thursday, May 30, to wrap up his story, as he is currently negotiating to appear in “several episodes” to do just that, the outlet notes. Nothing this far suggests how he could be written out, with Levi’s focus on teaching the current group of interns at Grey Sloan Memorial, though he did have a possibly telling encounter with his ex-boyfriend, Dr. Nico Kim (Alex Landi), during which he learned the other man was about to become a father with his new partner. Amid overall decline in linear ratings, it has become common practice for broadcast networks to ask for financial concessions on long-running series, which naturally become pricier as they age. As a high-end drama series headed into its 21st season with a large cast, most of whom have been on the show for years, Grey’s is expensive. I hear its renewal — like many other broadcast shows’ these days — came with a budget cut.

When Grey’s Anatomy burst onto the scene and washed over the competition in 2005, Ellen Pompeo’s Meredith Grey was front and center.
That all changed in 2023 when the original star departed as a series regular, dropping down to a recurring status.
As promotional material for Grey’s Anatomy Season 20 has trickled out, Meredith has been heavily featured in scenes that highlight her return to Seattle.
Beyond that, there was no confirmation of how long Pompeo would be on-screen.
Until now.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the beloved actress will appear in at least four episodes of the strike-shortened season.
Could Ellen Pompeo return for more episodes of Grey’s Anatomy Season 20?
Four episodes of a 10-episode season isn’t bad, but the outlet notes that Pompeo may appear in more than that.
At the time of her departure, Pompeo was set to produce and star in a limited series for Hulu.

Expect to see some familiar faces returning to Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital soon.
Jessica Capshaw is set to guest star in Season 20 of Grey’s Anatomy, reprising her beloved role as Dr. Arizona Robbins. Also Alex Landi will return as Dr. Nico Kim.
No word yet on how, exactly, these two will make their way back to Grey Sloan. Capshaw joined the cast in Season 5 and remained until Season 14, when Arizona left Seattle during the finale to move to New York so that her daughter Sophia could be closer to her other mom, Dr. Callie Torres (Sara Ramirez).
Landi recurred on the show from Seasons 15 to 18, before exiting in May 2022. While he was on the show, he was in an on-again off-again relationship with his co-worker Dr. Levi Schmitt (Jake Borelli), who is still on the show.
Additionally, Grey’s Anatomy is also adding two new faces, Natalie Morales and Freddy Miyares.

It’s hard to believe Grey’s Anatomy has been on the air for almost 20 years.
As a midseason replacement back in 2005, the show wasn’t expected to break out in the way it has done.
Despite big casting shake-ups, it remains one of ABC’s most popular dramas and will likely be on the air for countless more years.
With Grey’s Anatomy Season 20 just around the corner, it’s time to take a look at everything we know about the milestone season.
We even have an update on Ellen Pompeo’s return as Meredith Grey.
Get all the details below.
Grey’s Anatomy Season 20: when will it premiere?
The medical drama will return from an extended hiatus on Thursday, March 14, at 9/8c.
Unlike previous years, it will air out of 9-1-1, which is moving from Fox.

When news emerged that Grey's Anatomy Season 20 production was underway, there was a big question mark over Ellen Pompeo's name.
After departing as a series regular during Grey's Anatomy Season 19, Meredith Grey returned with professional and personal breakthroughs later that season.
Her story was seemingly at its end, but Pompeo had been adamant about coming back here and there following her exit.
And it seems she still has a soft spot for Meredith and her former colleagues because she's lined up more than one appearance in the upcoming season.
The news came courtesy of costar and director Debbie Allen, who was asked by Entertainment Tonight about Pompeo's status on the call sheet.
"Miss Thing is there, honey," enthused Allen.
"She's in the first episode, and she's in the one I'm going to direct.
