Principal photography has begun on "Loving," writer/director Jeff Nichols' drama about the biracial couple, played by Joel Edgerton and Brit actress Ruth Negga, that sparked the seminal 1967 civil rights case Loving vs. Virginia. The film is inspired by Nancy Buirski's documentary "The Loving Story." After Richard and Mildred Loving married in June of 1958, authorities broke into their home, arrested them, and sentenced them to a year in the state penitentiary. This sentence was suspended on the condition that they be exiled from the state of Virginia. Richard and Mildred would spend the next nine years fighting to get home. New to the cast are Nick Kroll as Bernie Cohen, Jon Bass as Phil Hirschkop, Marton Csokas as Sheriff Brooks, and Bill Camp as Frank Beazley. Michael Shannon will play Life Magazine photographer Grey Villet, marking his fifth collaboration with Nichols, including films "Mud," "Take Shelter" and "Midnight.

Probably one of my favorite actor/director bromances right now is the one between Michael Shannon and Jeff Nichols. The actor has been in every one of Nichols' movies to date, and while we (im)patiently wait for the director's big studio effort "Midnight Special" next spring (sadly pushed from release this fall), the duo are charing another project to pair up on. I love everything about Big Time in Hollywood, Fl., Comedy Central’s brand-new scripted comedy that stars Alex Anfanger and Lenny Jacobson as Jack and Ben Dolfe, scheming slacker brothers whose big-time Hollywood dreams land them in big-time trouble in — and out of — their snoozy Florida town. But let me confess this right now: I love their sweet buddy Del the best. Possibly a bit too much. And I didn’t mind admitting it to Jon Bass, who plays him. With his great big heart, goofy little shorts, sensible sandals and an utter unwillingness to believe that Jack and Ben are anything but a force for … Continue reading →
