In my mind, I have always found Exorcist III not only scarier than the original film. Ever since I saw the film on home video in the 90’s, I think the film becomes even more haunting as I get older. Later, I heard that Blatty, the author of The Exorcist and the writer/director of Exorcist III, had to re-shoot an ending that included an exorcism which was mandated by the studio. For years, a “director’s cut” has been on the whispers of genre fans worldwide. Late last year, I found a tasty morsel of information that this rumored “director’s cut” was happening. Bigger genre sites picked it up immediately after our little site was the first to dig up the info from the source, TheNinthConfiguration.com, some credited us to finding the info and bringing it to the attention of many, most of the sites didn’t attribute us.

There’s a good reason that Scream Factory gets so much love here at Daily Dead and from horror fans around the world. Not only are they giving the high definition treatment to cult classics we’ve been dying to see on Blu-ray, but they’re also introducing a younger generation of fans to obscure titles they may not be aware of.
Today, Fangoria announced that they’ve teamed up with Scream Factory for a limited edition special issue that focuses on the horror label and provides in-depth interviews, photos, and more:

Shock Till You Drop's original series Choice Cuts returns and goes inside Scream Factory. If you're a regular Shock reader, they really need no introduction, but they're one of the leading companies today seeking out older horror films and are restoring and releasing them as collector's editions. While Scream Factory handles its fair share of new title acquisitions, their bread and butter is older titles and they've given us some fantastic ones: Day of the Dead, The Funhouse, Lifeforce, The Burning and many, many more. This upcoming summer and fall is huge for Scream Factory, so I sat down with Cliff MacMillan and Jeff Nelson to preview what's to come and to give you a better insight as to how the company works.

If you're a regular FEARnet reader, then no doubt you've also been keeping tabs on Scream Factory, the horror offshoot of Shout Factory that's been putting out stellar Blu-Ray special editions of some amazing genre titles over the course of the last year. Well, in honor of their month long 31 Days Of Screams promotion, the gang from Scream Factory, head of acquisitions Cliff MacMillan and director of marketing Jeff Nelson appeared on GeekNation's Killer Pov podcast this week along with hosts Rob Galluzzo (FEARnet), Rebekah McKendry (Fangoria) and Elric Kane (Inside Horror). This is really the best behind-the-scenes look at how Scream Factory operates. You can hear about some of the challenges the company faces (artwork controversy, acquiring films, surprising titles they lost, fan scrutiny), what's sold the most (and what hasn't) and the full scoop on upcoming releases such as 'Nightbreed: The Cabel Cut,' 'Night Of The Comet,...

A few weeks ago back at the 2013 San Diego Comic-Con, we made it a point to stop by the table of our good friends at Shout Factory whom we interviewed earlier this summer. After all, for the last year under their horror banner of "Scream Factory," they've been putting out some of our most beloved genre titles and giving them the "Criterion" style treatment, complete with stellar new digital transfers, bonus features galore and new original cover artwork. So right on the cusp of their Comic-Con panel, they announced a slew of new titles for the next year including John Carpenter's 'Assault On Precinct 13,' 'Darkman,' Cat People' and the long sought after director's cut of Clive Barker's 'Nightbreed.' On top of that, they also had the always lovely Adrienne Barbeau and 'Swamp Thing' (and Wolverine!) creator Len Wein at their table...

Exclusive Nightbreed: The Cabal Cut Interview - The Scream Factory Comic-Con panel dropped huge news for Clive Barker fans last week when it was announced that they’d be releasing Nightbreed: The Cabal Cut on Blu-ray. In an exclusive interview with Daily Dead, Russell Cherrington, Mark Miller, and Michael Plumides discuss their work on The Cabal Cut, teaming up with Scream Factory, bonus features, and where you can catch a screening of the movie later this week:
Congratulations on getting The Cabal Cut on Blu-ray.
Mark Miller: First let me say, this is an incredible time for Seraphim Films. We have worked closely with Morgan Creek on bringing the Cabal Cut to the world, and upon hearing the news that a deal had been struck with Shout Factory, we were overjoyed. The fruits of our labors have finally paid off. We eagerly await the next chapter in this saga.

One of the real exciting announcements to come out of this year's San Diego Comic-Con is the fact that Nightbreed: The Cabal Cut (review) is finally making its way to video. Michael Plumides is a filmmaker who was instrumental in making this happen.
Plumides recently sat down with Dread Central and talked about his experiences helping Nightbreed: The Cabal Cut finally see the light of day.
Dread Central: What was your role in this venture?
Michael Plumides: Well, I live in Charlotte, North Carolina. Although I've lived in Georgia and South Carolina I was born and raised here. And though my 4808 Club was shut down by the city after the infamous Gwar show of 1990, I still consider this my home - even if they tried to run me out on a rail. I wrote a book about it entitled, Kill the Music that someday I hoped to turn into a film.

If you're a die-hard horror fan, then no doubt you've been keeping close tabs on either the 'Scream Factory' Facebook or Twitter page. Ever since Shout! Factory launched this horror specific label, I've pretty much jumped for joy at every new title announcement, primarily because unlike some big studio outlets, you know that the gang at 'Scream' are all genuine genre fans. It shows in their product! The level of care and enthusiasm in each title they roll out is obvious, and while other companies may be satisfied tossing out a bare-bones edition of any given horror movie, Scream Factory excels at giving every genre title a "Criterion" style release. The FEARnet crew were lucky enough to stop by the Shout! Factory offices to chat with Cliff MacMillan (Acquisitions Manager) and Jeff Nelson (Marketing Director) about all things 'Scream Factory'! The pair talk about the process of acquiring horror cult favorites,...

A genuine mystery and all-around obsession arose in 1986 during the “discovery phase” of my relationship with horror in the mid-1980s. It would last until the early summer of 2008.
It was something I could not share with my friends or my family, and in those pre-internet days, information (such as the type I needed) was in short supply, and there was little hope that I would ever find the answers I was so desperately looking for.
The question at hand…
Who was Danny Steinmann?
He was the director of my personal favorite of the Friday the 13th films…the often-derided and misunderstood Part V: A New Beginning, released in 1985. He also had the action/exploitation flick Savage Streets to his name from 1984. But that was it, as far as I knew at the time. For months on end, I scanned the pages of Fangoria for word on Mr. Steinmann’s next film,...

Halloween 2 & 3, TerrorVision, The Funhouse and other forgotten gems like Death Valley and The Island, these are all films that Cliff MacMillan holds near and dear to his heart. Cliff is the one responsible for bringing us all of these great titles to DVD/Blu-ray through Shout! Factory's genre arm, Scream Factory and Cliff is the first to admit that he might be being a little bit selfish in his work. But these titles are just the tip of the iceberg for what Scream Factory has in store for us. We grabbed a few minutes with Cliff to talk about Shout Factory's recent and future genre output. Here's what he had to say...
FEARnet: So why don't you want my kid to go to college?
Cliff MacMillan: (laughs) It's only going to get worse next year, I'm sorry.
Why did Scream Factory release their Halloween 2 Blu-ray so close to Universal's?...

After watching the Lethal Ladies Collection DVD recently, I got curious about the line of 70's and 80's exploitation fare from publisher Shout! Factory and what has gone into developing this line. Why these titles? How were they going about tracking down materials to bring these movies to disc (some of them for the first time)? Well, I got on the phone with Shout! Factory's VP of Acquisitions and Production, Cliff MacMillan for a brief chat about just what drove the creation of this line, and the obsessive search for elements to bring these movies to disc. Twitch: How did the "Corman Cult Classics" line come about? Cliff MacMillan Well, I'd known that this library had become available, and I'd been chasing it for a...

The Mutilator For fans of the beloved 1980's slasher The Mutilator that have been left out in the dark wondering when this film will ever be released to DVD in the United States, Code Red has come clean on why this film isn't available yet. According to Code Red, a distributor of rare, forgotten about horror films from yesteryear, they have a valid contract with director Buddy Cooper to release the film..
Originally prints and negatives for The Mutilator were thought to be in New York, but upon searching for them, they came up empty handed. Rumors circulated as a video popped up on Youtube with Buddy Cooper showing a storage shack with some 35mm cans in the background. However, again they came up empty in this regard after speaking with the film's director.
Some trims and some trailers were found, but due to poor storage/weather conditions, after 25 years,...
