In Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, director Wes Ball plans to breathe new life into the franchise with a story set several generations in the future following Caesar's reign. Apes are now the dominant species living harmoniously and humans have been reduced to living in the shadows.
As a new tyrannical ape leader builds his empire, one young ape undertakes a harrowing journey that will cause him to question all that he has known about the past and to make choices that will define a future for apes and humans alike.
Given Ball's expertise in the young adult realm with The Maze Runner movies and chatter about Kingdom shifting the spotlight to a younger cast of characters, some fans have expressed concerns about the classic sci-fi franchise becoming a franchise for teens. Then, there's also the fact it has to follow the previous trilogy (no easy feat).

The Captain America: Brave New World star, Anthony Mackie, recently stated that the long-overdue sequel is hoping to offer a “clear reset” for the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s currently chaotic creative direction. Presumably, this aims to maintain the franchise’s reputation amidst its continuous quality decline.
Speaking with Entertainment Weekly after Marvel’s first official screening of movie footage at 2024 CinemaCon, the Brother to Brother actor offered his viewpoint on his first full appearance as the Star-Spangled Avenger. As the MCU prepares for a major reset following the events of Avengers: Endgame, fans have high hopes for seeing how Mackie’s Captain America shapes the franchise’s future.

Nicolas Cage is one of the biggest and most popular actors of his generation. The star has been in several projects over the years, and although he still has more to give, it looks like he simply isn’t interested in visiting “a galaxy far, far away.” Here’s why Cage said “no” after Pedro Pascal suggested he join the Star Wars universe.

M. Night Shyamalan just delivered one of the most artistically audacious films he's made in years with "Knock at the Cabin," and in a new interview, he reveals that he was making the movie at the same time as he was helming one of the most artistically audacious shows on television. In an interview with Collider, Shyamalan spoke about what it was like to make the final season of his dark Apple TV+ series, "Servant," at the same time as his horror adaptation "Knock at the Cabin." It turns out, it was a little bit like playing chess (if Rupert Grint was in both chess games).
"What 'Servant' taught me was, 'Wow, there's a beauty to creating when you have a lot, a lot of things on your table,' Shyamalan shared. "Me as a human being, I don't spend as much time angsting, and I spend more time doing.

Many actors would surrender a limb to be part of the “Star Wars” film and television franchise, Nicolas Cage is making it known that he is not among them.
Cage made that crystal clear during a recent interview with Yahoo! Entertainment‘s Kevin Polowy, in which he confirmed that Pedro Pascal — star of “The Mandalorian” and Cage’s co-star in “The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent” — attempted to “recruit” him into the “Star Wars” cinematic universe.

Ever since Star Wars became a massive hit in 1977, sci-fi fans have been divided by the most fundamental question: Star Wars or Star Trek. Yes, the cult following that continued to build after Star Trek‘s Original Series‘ three-season run ended in 1969 made audiences hungry for more sci-fi adventure. And yes, it was the success of Star Wars that made Paramount release Star Trek: The Motion Picture in 1979.
And yet, fans of the two camps love to pick at each other, praising their own side’s strengths (ur-myths transposed to epic space battles or intellectual curiosity) and mocking the other side’s weaknesses (“I don’t like sand” or “What does God need with a starship?”). With Star Trek: Strange New Worlds and Andor offering some of the best storytelling that the series have to offer, the rivalry between the two has only grown more intense.

Nicolas Cage is not interested in joining the “Star Wars” franchise, be it a movie or a Disney+ series like “The Mandalorian.” Cage’s “The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent” co-star Pedro Pascal is the lead of “The Mandalorian” and once said he wanted to recruit Cage onto the show. Asked about this by Yahoo Entertainment, Cage rejected the idea of joining any “Star Wars” property because his loyalty lies with “Star Trek.”
“I’m not really down,” Cage said, noting he grew up watching William Shatner as Captain Kirk and idolizing the original “Star Trek” series. “I’m a Trekkie, man. I’m on the Star Trek Enterprise. That’s where I roll.”
“I thought [Chris] Pine was terrific in the movies,” Cage continued. “I think the movies are outstanding. I like the political and the sociological [messages]. To me what science fiction is really all about and why it’s...

Nicolas Cage won’t be in a galaxy far, far away anytime soon.
The Oscar winner revealed that he is less than interested in joining the “Star Wars” franchise and is much more of a “Star Trek” person.
“No is the answer, and I’m not really down,” Cage told Yahoo Entertainment! reporter Kevin Polowy in an interview shared on Twitter. “I’m a Trekkie man. I’m on the Enterprise. That’s where I roll.”

Nicolas Cage is one of the most prolific actors out there, but there’s one movie franchise he wants nothing to do with. Nicolas Cage recently said he would rather step aboard the Starship Enterprise than journey to a galaxy far, far away, with an interest in the Star Trek series.
In a video interview, Nicolas Cage was asked if he had any interest in being part of the Star Wars franchise–which he quickly rebuked to champion Star Trek. “No is the answer. I’m not really down. I’m a Trekkie, man. I’m (into) Star Trek. I’m on the Enterprise. That’s where I roll…I’m not in the Star Wars family. I’m in the Star Trek family.” You can watch the interview snippet below:

It has been long known that Nicolas Cage loves Superman, but his opinions on influential geek franchises doesn’t end there. In a recent interview with Yahoo! Entertainment, the Oscar-winning actor told fans that they shouldn’t expect him to turn up in the galaxy far, far away any time soon.
Considering the on-screen bromance between Cage and “The Mandalorian” star Pedro Pascal in last year’s action-comedy “The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent,” one might think that Cage would consider joining his pal somewhere in that expansive franchise..

“Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” is, of course, different from the film we would’ve gotten if star Chadwick Boseman had lived. What we got was a action epic that was also a meditation on grief, as well as a deeper exploration of Wakanda’s female characters. That includes Angela Bassett as Queen Ramonda, who navigates grief and responsibility after she assumes the throne upon the death of her son T’Challa (Boseman). But could Bassett go as far as to win an Oscar for her performance? That’s possible according to the Expert journalists we’ve surveyed from major media outlets.

David Harbour might not have been a well-known actor in 2005, but his career had been arcing upward since 1999 thanks to several critically acclaimed performances on- and off-Broadway. At 6'3", he had a sturdy, formidable presence. He could use that imposing frame to his advantage or play against it to sympathetic or pathetic effect. When you're this good in New York City, you're guaranteed at least one "Law & Order" role; Harbour booked three. When he made himself available for movies, he nailed down four parts within a year of each other. One of those was as Tom Cruise's bar buddy in Steven Spielberg's "War of the Worlds." If you're struggling to remember his character, let me help you out: he got cut from the film's final cut.

David Harbour broke out in a major way when Netflix’s Stranger Things creeped onto the streaming platform in 2016. Since then, his movie career has been a small collection of hits and misses, with no bigger flop than 2019’s Hellboy.
David Harbour not only acknowledges how big of a critical and commercial failure it was, but also took away an important lesson. “I learned not to f*ck with established IP, that’s for sure. A beloved and established IP. I mean, I guess that’s the biggest lesson learned. I feel like whatever failures or successes that movie was, of which there are many, the movie itself had such a thing going into it that it was like almost impossible.”
Me: What lessons did you learn from Hellboy?
David Harbour: [laughs] That's a good question… I learned Don't F**K With Established IP, that's for sure. pic.twitter.com/SoqlN...

David Harbour found success in the blockbuster film world with “Black Widow,” where he joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Red Guardian, but his first go-around with studio tentpoles was more or less a disaster. Harbour led Neil Marshall’s 2019 “Hellboy” reboot, which only grossed 21 million in the U.S. on a 50 million production budget. At the worldwide box office, the film tapped out at 44 million. Speaking to Yahoo Entertainment ahead of the release of his new film, the Santa Claus action thriller “Violent Night,” Harbour said “Hellboy” taught him not to get involved with beloved franchise IP.
“Let’s see. I learned not to fuck with an established IP, that’s for sure,” Harbour said. “[Don’t fuck with] a beloved and established IP. That’s the biggest lesson learned.”

Monday night, Paramount hosted an early screening of Damien Chazelle’s highly anticipated new film “Babylon,” and reactions to the comedic epic set in the Golden Age of Hollywood are as wild and grandiose as the era it depicts.
Out Dec. 23, the film is the Oscar-winning “La La Land” writer-director’s first feature since 2018, and in his own words, his most ambitious project yet. The A-list cast is led by “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” co-stars Margot Robbie and Brad Pitt, as well as newcomer Diego Calva. Olivia Wilde, Flea, Jean Smart, Tobey Maguire and Spike Jonze among many others also star in this fictionalized account of big dreams and bigger debauchery in 1920s Hollywood.
A first trailer, released in September, promised entertainment and chaos in equal measure, with characters narrowly avoiding certain death on movie sets, falling off of balconies at sumptuous parties and snorting lines of coke.

Damien Chazelle’s new film Babylon is shaping up to be one of the most divisive of the year.
The latest from the director of acclaimed hits Whiplash and La La Land is a three-hour plus epic set in Hollywood.
Many have been expecting the film, which stars Margot Robbie, Diego Calva and Brad Pitt, to be yet another Oscar contender for Chazelle, whose last release was First Man in 2018.
However, going by the first reactions, it seems Babylon could be too divisive to become an awards frontrunner.
Chazelle himself said that the film was inspired by an intriguing mix of films – namely The Godfather, La Dolce Vita and Nashville.
Reactions have stemmed from those in awe of Chazelle’s impressive directing skills to those overwhelmed by the sheer amount the filmmaker tries to cram into the film.
Variety‘s Clayton Davis called Babylon a “high octane, cocaine-inducing trip”, while...

The Oscar race for Best Supporting Actor is one of the most uncertain of the year. Paul Dano (“The Fabelmans“) led initially, but once the film premiered his co-star Judd Hirsch started to take some of his momentum, and an actor from a different film took over the lead in Expert journalists’ odds: Ke Huy Quan in “Everything Everywhere All at Once.” It would be only the second win in the category by an Asian actor (following Haing S. “The Fabelmans” was the first Steven Spielberg film ever to screen at the Toronto International Film Festival, and the gambit seems to have paid off in terms of the film’s Oscar hopes. It won the People’s Choice Award at TIFF and got out front in the derby, and so far it has stayed there. Now almost all of this fall’s biggest contenders have been shown to critics and/or festival attendees and “Fabelmans” maintains its lead in Expert journalists’ forecasts for Best Picture. But it faces pressure from multiple other films in the conversation.

Before “The Fabelmans” premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival, Paul Dano was the presumptive favorite to win Best Supporting Actor for his role in Steven Spielberg‘s semiautobiographical drama. When Pompeo popped up behind Dempsey and began to talk, he grabbed the mic from Yahoo!’s Kevin Polowy and flipped from the interviewee to the interviewer.

Taika Waititi may have spent his post-“Thor: Ragnarok” success winning a screenplay Oscar for “Jojo Rabbit,” but the writer and director returns to the Marvel Cinematic Universe with flying colors next month with “Thor: Love and Thunder.”
Reuniting with star Chris Hemsworth and with Natalie Portman returning as Jane Foster, hopes are high for this next installment — and if initial reactions out of Thursday night’s LA premiere are any indication, the film does not disappoint.
“Thor: Love and Thunder” puts our hero up against one of his most formidable foes yet: Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale) and powerful extraterrestrial hellbent on sending gods into extinction. He faces off with Gorr alongside Portman’s Foster, returning for the first time since 2013’s “Thor: The Dark World,” who also possesses the power of Thor. Tessa Thompson returns as Valkyrie, and the film co-stars “Guardians of the Galaxy” heavyweights Chris Pratt and others.

Taika Waititi’s “Thor: Love and Thunder” has received thunderous Twitter praise.
The film hosted its red carpet premiere June 23 before debuting in theaters July 8, and critics took to social media to applaud the instant “classic” Marvel film.
“Thor: Love and Thunder” picks up after the fall of Asgard and the events of “Avengers: Endgame” with Chris Hemsworth reprising his titular role as the son of Odin. Tessa Thompson is also back as Valkyrie, as well as Chris Pratt as Star-Lord, Waititi as Korg, and Natalie Portman as Jane Foster, making her return to the MCU in almost a decade since starring in 2013’s “Thor: The Dark World.” Yet this time around, Jane is now wielding hammer Mjolnir as fellow superhero Mighty Thor and “finally given her due,” according to one critic.

The film hosted its red carpet premiere June 23 before debuting in theaters July 8, and critics took to social media to applaud the instant “classic” Marvel film.

Critics got their first peek at “Lightyear” on Wednesday night, the first Pixar movie to get a theatrical run since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic. The previous four “Toy Story” films have all been players at the Oscars (with “Toy Story 3” actually nominated for Best Picture) so eyes are always on this company for Awards Season.
But “Lightyear,” famously, is not a “Toy Story” movie. It’s an origin story for the toy voiced by Tim Allen, but this time about the “character” of Buzz (e.g. the movie that inspired the toy tie-in) and he’s voiced by Chris Evans. Everybody got that?
Other voice talent includes Keke Palmer, James Brolin, Isiah Whitlock, Jr., Uzo Aduba, and the ubiquitous Taika Waititi. The director is Angus MacLane, who has been working with Pixar since 1998, and was co-director on “Finding Dory.”
Reaction from Fandango’s on-the-scene reporter was bullish on the picture.

Michael Bay isn’t here for your questions about Will Smith slapping Chris Rock at the 2022 Oscars. Bay directed Smith in two of his signature action movies, “Bad Boys” and “Bad Boys II.” Asked by Yahoo to weigh in on the slap, Bay responded, “I don’t really care.”
“I wasn’t watching. I saw it. First of all, it’s wrong to begin with,” Bay said. “I don’t really care. Hollywood gets very self-absorbed. There are babies getting blown up in the Ukraine right now. We should be talking about that. I really don’t care.”
Bay only had this to add about the incident at the Oscars: “I’ve worked with him. He’s not that guy. I’ve never seen him lose his cool like that. I thought it was a set up because I saw his smirk. I’ve been on set when Will has...

This is one explosive confrontation that Michael Bay wants no part of.
The “Ambulance” director shared his reaction to the now-infamous Oscars slap between Will Smith and presenter Chris Rock during the March 27 awards ceremony. Bay, who directed Smith in both “Bad Boys” and its 2003 sequel, told Yahoo! Entertainment that Smith’s altercation seemed out of character. See below.
“Everyone was texting me, ‘Did you see it? Did you see it?’ First of all, it’s wrong to begin with,” Bay said. “But that’s all people are talking about and I don’t really care. Hollywood gets very self-absorbed. There are babies getting blown up in the Ukraine right now. We should be talking about that. I really don’t care. It wasn’t right.”
Bay added, “I’ve worked with him. He is not that guy. I’ve never seen him lose his cool like that. I thought...
