Monica Lewinsky is hittin' the red carpet! After keeping a low profile for a few weeks, the 40-year-old decided to step out for a surprise appearance at New York City hotspot Cipriani Wall Street for the Kitchen Spring Gala Benefit alongside Vanity Fair's Editor of Creative Development David Friend. Lewinsky wore a strapless coral dress with a dark navy sheer sleeve overlay and black peep-toe pumps. The event honored New York artist Robert Longo, and according to the New York Times, "All of the art-world wattage in the room was eclipsed, however, by an appearance from Monica Lewinsky. She was huge fan of Longo and was honored to be invited." The former White House intern's appearance...

One of the most unusual treats in this month's inaugural Vulture Festival was a special session that ticket-holders had with our art critic, Jerry Saltz. He took them on an art walk through Chelsea, discussing the state of the gallery scene, the differences between artists and civilians, and the changing role of art criticism. As a bonus, attendees got to hear from superstar artist Robert Longo, who talked about his philosophy and the way he sees the art world working today. Check out this video of some of the art walk's highlights!

The actor, a staunch environmental activist, helped raise a whopping $38.8 million at a charity auction Monday to benefit environmental and conservation programs, including initiatives to protect wildlife and endangered species, event organizers announced in a statement. DiCaprio teamed up with Christie's in New York City for what was being called The 11th Hour Auction, whose sales surpassed even the most optimistic of expectations. The auction—which featured pieces by Robert Longo, Elizabeth Peyton and Carol Bove, among others—sold all 33 works that went under the hammer,...

"A lot of the works of this quality have never been at auction. We have what we believe are conservative estimates," Loic Gouzer, international specialist at Christie's and the head of the sale, said in an interview.
"It is going to be the biggest one-time environmental fundraiser ever," he added.

I get the impression most expect Wally Pfister will share some sort of connection with Christopher Nolan, with whom he served as director of photography on Memento, Insomnia, Batman Begins, The Prestige, The Dark Knight, Inception and The Dark Knight Rises. Considering Pfister's first outing as a feature director is a sci-fi film involving a scientist (Johnny Depp) whose brain is uploaded into the supercomputer he created with the intent on having it think for itself, there is a suggestion they, at least, share the same interests. Then again, this could also become something of a Johnny Mneumonic 2 (remember Robert Longo?) and Pfister could be laughed out the building. I think we are all hoping (and expecting) something different, but will expectations be too high? Ironically enough, I asked the same of Inception back in 2010. The film I'm referring to is Transcendence and Depp will co-star alongside Paul Bettany and now Deadline reveals Warner Bros.

The 2013 Tribeca Film Festival, presented by American Express, not only celebrates film culture but also recognizes leading artists who are part of the New York art scene. In keeping with Tff co-founder Jane Rosenthal's ambition to support all types of artists (not just filmmakers), each festival year twelve local artists donate artwork that will be awarded to festival filmmakers whose films are selected by the Tff jury as winners in their respective categories. This is an especially auspicious year for the Tribeca Film Festival Artists Awards Program, sponsored by Chanel. The participating artists include Stephen Hannock, David Kratz, Curtis Kulig, Gillian Laub, Robert Longo, Angelina Nasso, Erik Parker, Jose Parla, Joyce Pensato, Clifford Ross, William Wegman and Dustin Yellin, all of whom are among the finest contemporary artists in the world, let alone New York City. As is tradition, their works will be exhibited without charge by the ...
