The dogfight between Judith Sheindlin and CBS against Rebel Entertainment Partners over the 95 million sale of the Judy Judy library is over, but not finished.
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Kristin S. Escalante has granted a motion by Sheindlin, Big Ticket Pictures and the Paramount Global-owned CBS to dismiss the two-year-old suit from self-described “successor in interest” Rebel over the more than 5 million the latter claims it is owed for the admittedly convoluted 2017 sale.
“Defendants Big Ticket Pictures, Inc.; CBS Studios, Inc.; CBS Corporation; Judith Sheindlin; and Her Honor, Inc. are entitled to judgment in their favor on all causes of action as fully reflected in the Order, which is signed and filed on this date and incorporated herein by reference to the Court file,” the judge wrote in a September 28 minutes order (read it here).
The judge added in a full order later in the day:

Stephen Hackett has announced his retirement as president of sales at CBS Television Distribution after three decades at CBS and its former subsidiary King World.
Jonathan Bingaman will now lead the sales effort, the company said, after a promotion to Evp Domestic Licensing and Distribution. Both announcements were made today by Armando Nuñez, President and CEO of CBS Global Distribution Group and Chief Content Licensing Officer of CBS Corp., and Steve LoCascio, Chief Operating and Financial Officer of CBS Global Distribution Group. Bingaman will report to LoCasio.
“I’ve been blessed through out my years at King World and CBS to be surrounded by great people and great shows,” Hackett said in the announcement. “It really has been a privilege to be associated with such a great team! The time is right for me to hand over the reins of the sales team to Bing. He will be terrific in his new role.

As CBS Television Distribution’s president of sales Stephen Hackett rides off into the sunset after three decades at CBS/King World, Jonathan Bingaman is being promoted to executive vice president of domestic licensing and distribution at the division.
“I’ve been blessed through out my years at King World and CBS to be surrounded by great people and great shows,” said Hackett in a statement. “It really has been a privilege to be associated with such a great team! The time is right for me to hand over the reins of the sales team to Bing. He will be terrific in his new role. I look forward to the next chapter in my life on my cattle ranch in Colorado.”
CBS Global Distribution Group head Armando Nuñez says the sales team “thrived” under Hackett’s leadership, a tenure that has included recent long-term renewals for “Dr. Phil,” “Wheel of Fortune” and “Jeopardy!

With TV ratings and ad revenue in the U.S. slipping, pushing down license fees, and the off-network marketplace, especially on the drama side, not as robust as it once was, international sales have become increasingly important for American TV studios. In hopes to lure foreign buyers, the international distribution forces of the major U.S. studios this week hosted representatives of hundreds of terrestrial, cable and digital networks, wining and dining them while giving them first glimpse of their new series.
There had been concerns that the rising quantity and quality of local scripted production could threaten the appetitive for American series abroad but that has not been the case, especially as new distribution platforms enter the marketplace every year.
“We are seeing a very healthy market with the number of companies the same if not greater (than last year),” said Sony TV’s president of distribution Keith LeGoy.
