It’s 2003 again. Lindsay Lohan is one of the most popular, but also controversial young stars, with her private life possibly being more interesting than her work. Jamie Lee Curtis, on the other hand, is a well-established star who had a breakout role in Carpenter’s Halloween. The two of them are united in Disney’s Freaky Friday, directed by Mark Waters. The movie premiered on August 6, 2003, and became both a critical and commercial success, earning a cult following in the upcoming decades.
Now, twenty years after the premiere, in May 2023, Disney announced that a sequel – Freaky Friday 2 – was in the works and we finally have some great casting updates related to the sequel, as both Lohan and Lee Curtis are seemingly coming back for the sequel.
On top of that, Nisha Ganatra, an Emmy-nominated filmmaker who has worked on numerous television series, has been hired to direct the sequel.

Are there any detectives in the house because Jamie Lee Curtis just reshared a photo she took with Lindsay Lohan and I need a bit by bit breakdown of every detail.
What does the smiles mean? Does Curtis wearing glasses mean the movie’s in production or…? Why would she share the same picture twice?
One thing’s clear, we’re well on our way to getting a “Freaky Friday 2” years after the first one dropped.

Jamie Lee Curtis really knows how to celebrate a Friday. She didn’t need to do anything fancy, just a throwback pic of her smiling with her “Freaky Friday” costar Lohan and she’s got her fans’ attention.
The 65-year-old Oscar winner had previously shared this same picture last November, when she wrote about her hopes to get to “switch places again [with Lohan’s character] in the near future.

Could everyone, like, chill for a sec? That "Freaky Friday" sequel that Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan have been dreaming of is really, seriously, happening.
In a May 10 interview with The New York Times tied to the film's 20th anniversary, Curtis shared that she initially started thinking about a sequel during the "Halloween Ends" press tour. "People wanted to know if there was going to be another 'Freaky Friday.' Something really touched a chord," she said. "When I came back, I called my friends at Disney and said, 'It feels like there's a movie to be made.'"
Lohan also seemed to support the idea wholeheartedly, but while Curtis may have already started to pull some strings, the former said she was leaving the final decision up to the studios. "Jamie and I are both open to that, so we're leaving it in the hands that be,...

Sometimes it’s better to quit while you’re ahead, especially when it comes to creating sequels for near-perfect films. Disney is seemingly ignoring this warning and moving forward with a Freaky Friday follow-up — but the company is banking on its two secret weapons: Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan, who are expected to return to their roles as Anna and Tess Coleman, respectively, after 20 years.
A sequel is officially in development, according to The Hollywood Reporter, with a script currently in the works.

Late last year, Jamie Lee Curtis reportedly was interested in revisiting the 2003 body swap comedy remake she had made with then-rising star Lindsay Lohan, Freaky Friday. The Hollywood Reporter has now confirmed that it is officially in the works at the House of Mouse. Now that Disney is finding opportunities to reboot or give sequels to nostalgic projects thanks to Disney+ with projects like The Mighty Ducks series and the Hocus Pocus sequel, and hot off of Jamie Lee Curtis’ Oscar win, it seemed like a perfect time to cash in on a follow-up.
In the 2003 remake, Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan played a mother and daughter who were constantly at odds with each other. A time came when they simultaneously wished the other could experience life in their shoes when magic fortune cookies made it come true. The next morning, they wake up in each other’s bodies.

After two decades, actresses Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis are in talks to reunite for a sequel to the hit body-swap comedy ‘Freaky Friday’. The sequel is in the works at Disney, with Lohan and Curtis expected to reprise their roles as mother-daughter duo Anna and Tess Coleman. Elyse Hollander, whose work has been featured on the Black List, is penning the script, reports ‘Variety’.
Based on Mary Rodgers’ 1972 novel of the same name, the story was adapted for the screen twice before the 2003 film – in 1976 starring Barbara Harris and Jodie Foster, and in 1995 with Shelley Long and Gaby Hoffman. A Freaky Friday sequel is officially in the works at Disney with both Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis set to return, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
No plot details for the film have been shared, but Elyse Hollander is writing the script. Released in 2003, Freaky Friday was already a remake; it originated as a Mary Rodgers novel in 1972, and its first film adaptation followed in 1976. But the Lohan-Curtis version — written by Heather Hach and Leslie Dixon and directed by Mark Waters — has become a fan favorite thanks to, among many other things, Lohan’s punky Anna, her band Pink Slip, and an incredible scene in which Curtis and Chad Michael Murray sing Britney Spears’ “…Baby One More Time.” It grossed over $160 million worldwide.
Lohan and Curtis have long been willing to reprise their roles in the film, which sees a mother and daughter switch bodies and learn to accept their differences.

Rounding up the best unproduced screenplays in Hollywood, as voted on by hundreds of film executives, The Black List has been a strong resource to clue one in on projects to potentially anticipate, but first, to kickstart Hollywood on bringing them to screen. Last year’s chart-topper, the Madonna film Blonde Ambition by Elyse Hollander, was picked up by Universal Pictures and also in the top five was Liz Hannah’s The Post, which Steven Spielberg turned out quite fast. Today we have this year’s edition.
Topping the 2017 edition we have the post-wwii drama Ruin by Matthew Firpo and Ryan Firpo, which Gal Gadot is set to star in with direction by Macbeth and Snowtown‘s Justin Kurzel. Also among the list is the abortion drama Let Her Speak, the story of Anne Frank’s diary, Keeper of the Diary (which will be directed by Kenneth Branagh at Focus Features...

Most scripts on the Black List — an annual ranking of Hollywood's best unproduced screenplays, voted upon by the people who read them (many of them agency and studio assistants) — remain just that: unproduced.
But not always. Certainly landing in first place on the list doesn't hurt. Such was the case with Blond Ambition: The biopic from first-time screenwriter Elyse Hollander about Madonna's rise to fame earned 48 votes on the 2016 list, 13 nods ahead of the second-place entry from veteran scribe Dan Fogelman (This Is Us).

Madonna doesn’t seem to be getting into the groove of the planned movie about her life.
On Instagram Tuesday, the queen of pop appeared to express her distaste with the biopic, which EW previously confirmed is currently in the early stages of development at Universal under the title Blond Ambition. If produced, the film will chronicle the industry icon’s rise to fame in 1980s New York City, where she spent the formative years of her career cutting her teeth on the underground music scene before splashing into the mainstream with an eponymous debut album.

She may still be alive and kicking but the ultimate Lucky Star Madonna is all set to get her very own biopic after Universal has picked up Elyse Hollander’s script which takes the title from the megastar’s 1990 world tour Blond Ambition.
The story, which is to be set in early 80’s New York, will see Madonna Louise Ciccone working on her first album, struggling in a business that treats women badly, while also dealing with a burgeoning love life and the first hints of fame.
Only last year, Hollander’s script topped the 2016 Black List, the industry ranking that tracks Hollywood’s most-liked unproduced screenplays so it was only a matter of sitting back and waiting for the right (or best) offer to land in her hands and it couldn’t much bigger than Universal. Considering this is Hollander’s debut script after working alongside Alejandro G.

Chris here with some news to have you clutching your layered pearls. And stacked bracelets. And lace. That's right, a Madonna biopic is now in development at Universal. Whether you like it or not, get ready for Blonde Ambition.
Now before we cry foul or "too soon", the film sounds like less of a traditional biopic and more of a moment in time for the legend. Elyse Hollander's script topped last year's Black List (Hollywood's annual list of best unproduced screenplays) and follows the making of Madonna's first self-titled album. This would set the film in the early eighties before "Like A Virgin" skyrocketed her profile, but still in the era of "Lucky Star", "Borderline", and "Holiday". What will it be like to see club scene Madonna on the screen rather than the megastar? Will something like Truth or Dare have stylistic influence?
Word's out on what Madonna herself thinks about the film,...

Madonna is pretty famous, at least as far as iconic music superstars go, but nobody’s ever made an emotional biopic about how she went from a non-famous baby to the woman behind “Borderline.” Now, finally, that might be changing. According to Variety, Universal has picked up the rights to Blonde Ambition, a script written by Elyse Hollander that tracks Madonna’s life in 1980s New York “while navigating fame, romance, and the dismissive attitude of the music industry at the time” around the release of her self-titled debut album.
This is Hollander’s first script sale, but she has previously worked as an assistant for Alejandro González Iñárritu, so maybe Blonde Ambition will have some Birdman-style weirdness or Revenant-style bear attacks. You might say that Madonna was never attacked by a bear, but since there’s never been a biopic about her before, there’s really no ...
