Cape Town, Jan 16 (Ians) The Indian women’s hockey team registered a stellar 5-1 win over South Africa in the first game of the four-match series here on Monday.
For India, Rani (12′), Monika (20′), Navneet Kaur (24′), Gurjit Kaur (25′) and Sangita Kumari (30′) scored, while South Africa found the back of the net through captain Quanita Bobbs (44′).
Vaishnavi Vitthal Phalke, the industrious midfielder took to the pitch as a senior for the first time as she was selected to start against South Africa in this game. It marked a momentous occasion for the young player who led the Indian women’s junior team at the Uniphar U23 5-Nation Tournament 2022 in May.
India got into their passing rhythm quickly and pushed South Africa back into their own half early on in the quarter. India took the lead through Rani (12′), who expertly converted a penalty corner to make it 1-0 in favour of the Indian women’s hockey team.

New Delhi, Nov 1 (Ians) The Delhi High Court on Tuesday temporarily restrained Sjoerd Marijne, former coach of the Indian Women’s hockey team and book company HarperCollins from publishing confidential details about players in the Dutchman’s new book.
“..till the next date of hearing, an ad interim injunction is passed restraining the defendants from publishing the book containing portions (of confidential information of women players)” Justice Amit Bansal ordered while posting the matter for the November 18 hearing.
The court was dealing with a plea moved by Hockey India against Marijne and HarperCollins Publishers India Private Limited over the alleged violation of the code of conduct in the memoir authored by the dutch tactician titled “Will Power: The Inside Story of the Incredible Turnaround in Indian Women’s Hockey” which is not yet launched.

New Delhi, Sep 21 (Ians) The Delhi High Court on Wednesday restrained Sjoerd Marijne, former coach of Indian Women’s hockey team, from making any statements or giving interviews, or publishing any material from his upcoming book on men’s hockey team captain Manpreet Singh as they are ‘prima facie defamatory.’
“In my prima facie view, the statements made are on the face of it defamatory and injurious to the reputation and goodwill of plaintiff (Manpreet Singh),” Single-judge Justice Amit Bansal remarked.
The court further said, “.. till the next date of hearing Defendant No 2 (Marijne) is restrained from issuing any statement, giving interviews, correspondence and publishing excerpts in relation to the aforesaid statements as pointed out in the manuscript.”
During the course of the hearing, Publishing house HarperCollins Publishers India Pvt Ltd submitted that till pendency of Singh’s suit filed, they do not intend to publish the excerpts of the manuscript.
