The family of Bill Turnbull paid tribute to him as they announced his death yesterday, saying the BBC and Classic FM presenter made them laugh every day and that they were “immensely proud” of him.
The 66-year-old, who co-hosted Breakfast for 15 years, died at home in Suffolk almost five years after being diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer.
A special programme will be shown in his honour on Friday, the BBC said.
“The last week of his life was very special: the whole family was with him and we shared some wonderful moments,” wife Sarah McCombie said in a statement read out on air by Naga Munchetty.
“Even though he was often in pain, Bill was dignified and brave throughout, and he was his usual determined self right to the very end.
“Billy made us laugh every day and we are immensely proud of him – he was the heart of our family.

If the title of People Just Do Nothing doesn’t tell you everything you need to know about the cult-hit BBC series, consider the events of the pilot: Out of the gate, we see four boys banging away at their pirate radio station, Kurupt FM, assaulting everyone within a half-mile radius of their block tower with a barrage of British rave tunes. When a hostile neighbor threatens violence, Grindah — the self-proclaimed “Greatest Mc in the Galaxy” and “general” of the group — demurs from confrontation, instead castigating his Bff DJ Beats for turning up the volume.

At first glance, it looks like a traditional food diary. A one-page questionnaire with simple prompts: “Who did you eat with? What did you order/have? Is there any particular reason you wanted the food you ordered or had?” The first questions, though, reveal a singular context: “Years in prison for wrongful conviction. Where did you eat your first meal after release?”
It’s the answers to these questions that artist Julie Green turns into poignant pieces of art. The Oregon State University professor (who prefers gender neutral pronouns) receives...

The presenter revealed that he was considered for a CBS series during an interview on Alan Carr: New Year's Specstacular.
Speaking alongside James Corden, who is soon to depart to present The Late Late Show on CBS, Ross said: "I've got no advice for James because he – okay, I'm going to tell you something that I don't think James knew – years and years and years ago, when David Letterman first moved to CBS, I was offered that show, believe it or not, and I turned it down for two reasons.
"One - because my children were a bit older than James's [kids] so they already had their friends and social life so we couldn't really move over, and secondly I turned it down because I didn't think I could pull it off [in America], and I think I was right.

Professor Green reveals what it is like to live with Millie Mackintosh on tomorrow night's (December 3) Sweat the Small Stuff.
The rapper suggests that his wife isn't as tidy as she likes to say she is, and that things have surprised him after living alone in a house with her.
He explains: "Before she moved in with me I was living with two mates. Then when we got married, I bought a house and we were getting it renovated, so we were still living with my mates.
"And I'm not saying that they were the glue that held us together, but we've moved into our house now and it's just us two that rattle about in it."

The X Factor's Judges' Houses stage can be a terrifying experience - so imagine what it's like if you're performing for Scary Spice herself! Luckily, Mel B enlisted her fellow Spice GIrl Emma Bunton to help her choose the three boys who'll make it through to the live shows...
Here's a rundown of all the photos you need before Judges' Houses this weekend... although we'll be honest, we're not quite sure what on Earth is going on in this one below. Only on X Factor, eh?

Kate Hudson made the macabre revelation that she and mother Goldie Hawn can see dead people while appearing on Alan Carr's Chatty Man over the weekend.
Hudson, who was on the show with current-co-star Zach Braff to promote his Garden State follow-up Wish I Was Here, told host Carr that she once saw "a really creepy ghost of a woman with no face".
She continued to elaborate: "It is not really seeing, it is feeling a spirit. A fifth energy. I believe in energy. I believe our brains can manifest into visual things."
Hudson - engaged to Muse's Matt Bellamy with whom she has a three-year-old son - added that despite this "fifth energy", she isn't afraid of it, and implements ways of keeping it under control.
"When you see something, you are supposed to tell the energy what year it is and that they don't belong there," she said.

Made in Chelsea star Cheska Hull has told Digital Spy that rumours of Ollie Locke leaving the show are premature, as not even he knows what he's doing yet.
Sources claim that Locke will not return to the E4 show following the end of its fifth series last Monday (June 17), but Hull has insisted that the "rumour started from nowhere".
Speaking to DS at the Clothes Show TV launch in Mayfair last night (June 20), Hull stated: "I don't know if Ollie knows. He's my best friend and I would love him to come back in, but it's his decision.
"At the end of the day that rumour started from nowhere and I don't think he's even decided."
On whether Locke's potential departure would force her to quit too, Hull said: "I can't imagine actually doing it without him... [but] I really want to do it and if Ollie decides not, I will do the next series.

Professor Green has seemingly confirmed reports that his fiancée Millie Mackintosh has quit Made in Chelsea.
The reality star was first rumoured to be leaving the E4 series in April after refusing to film scenes relating to the couple's upcoming wedding.
Green has since told BBC Radio 1: "She just had enough of it. I'm happy with her to do anything that makes her happy and it really wasn't making her happy.
"She was getting pressures to film things that she just wouldn't film. She wanted to keep her private life private.
"That doesn't fit well with the format of the show when everyone on it is acting like a wally, trying to play up to it. Everything changed for her."
Asked if any of her co-stars will be invited to their September wedding, he added: "No Chelsea people. I don't know many Chelsea people apart from Millie and her immediate circle,...

Professor Green is expecting his friends to ''ruin'' him with ''drugs and prostitutes'' on his stag night. The rapper - who grew up on a tough council estate in East London - is to tie the knot with 'Made in Chelsea' star Millie Mackintosh later this year and he is expecting his send off as a bachelor to either be a crazy night of debauchery, or ''s**t'' because his pals will forget to arrange anything for him. He said: ''Well I don't get to plan it, do I? But my mates are f***ing reprobates so they'll either just not plan anything and...
