House Speaker Mike Johnson criticized President Joe Biden for threatening to stop U.S. shipments of weapons to Israel if they launch a major invasion of Rafah, a southern city in Gaza, saying it was “a senior moment.”
Biden made this threat during a CNN interview with anchor Erin Burnett.
“I want to ask you about something happening as we sit here and speak, and that, of course, is Israel striking Rafah,” Burnett stated. “I know that you have paused – Mr. President – shipments of 2,000 pound U.S. bombs to Israel due to concern that they could be used in any offensive on Rafah. Have those bombs- those powerful 2,000-pound bombs – been used to kill civilians in Gaza?”
“Civilians have been killed in Gaza as a consequence of those bombs and other ways in which they go after population centers,” he responded. “And I made it clear that if they go...

Biden Tells Netanyahu: U.S. Won’t Support Retaliatory Strike on Iran. But Some Republicans Want One.
President Joe Biden urged Israel not to launch a counter-strike against Iran, telling Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that the U.S. will not participate in one. Iran on Saturday launched drones and missiles to attack Israel — most of which were intercepted by forces from the U.S., Israel, and other countries in the region.
In a phone call with Netanyahu late Saturday, Biden told Netanyahu, “You got a win. Take the win,” according to a senior U.S. official who spoke with Axios. Biden further told Netanyahu that the U.

The Doha Film Institute (Dfi) kicked off its 10th Qumra talent and project incubator meeting on a somber note on Friday as its organizers spoke out about the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
Some 200 international industry professionals are due to attend the Qatari event, running from March 1 to 6, to nurture 40 projects by emerging filmmakers. The event is a cornerstone of the Dfi’s activities.
“While we celebrate the progress that we have made in nurturing new voices in cinema, we are also confronted with the genocide in Gaza and the ongoing attempts to silence the voices crying out against it,” said Dfi CEO Fatma Hassan Al Remaihi.
“This cultural genocide is a profound reminder of our responsibility as a global community to ensure that all voices are heard, and all lives are treated with dignity and respect.”

Sen. Tommy Tuberville has finally — albeit partially — surrendered his blockade on military appointments and confirmations.

Hundreds of political appointees and government staffers representing over 40 U.S. agencies signed a letter to the Biden administration calling for a cease-fire in the Gaza Strip.
According to The New York Times, which reviewed a copy of the letter, more than 400 individuals anonymously signed on to Tuesday’s missive demanding the president’s administration call more forcefully for de-escalation in the conflict between Israel and Hamas in Gaza. Israel’s retaliatory siege against Gaza following the Oct. 7 terrorist attacks by Hamas, which killed 1,400 Israelis, has now killed more than 11,000 Palestinians.

Secretary of State Antony Blinken was repeatedly interrupted at a Senate hearing today by about a dozen protesters opposed to Israel’s actions in Gaza.
The demonstrators, some of whom chanted “ceasefire now” and “no Gaza genocide,” were escorted or dragged out of the hearing by Capitol Police.
On CNN, which was carrying the hearing live, one woman was seen standing up behind Blinken with the sign, “ceasefire in Gaza.” Others in the crowd had painted their hands red to represent blood and held them up during the hearing.
“I appreciate that people feel passionately about these issues. I would ask that you respect our witnesses and our committee members and allow the American people to hear their testimony. We will pause until the room is clear,” said Sen. Patti Murray (D-wa), the chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee.
Blinken was interrupted again by another demonstrator, and then by a larger group.

Gen. Charles Q. Brown Jr. replaced Gen. Mark A. Milley on Friday and was sworn into the top military post in front of military personnel. The day was filled with ceremonial traditions and took place at Joint Base Meyer Henderson Hall in Virginia.
In Milley’s retirement speech on Friday he asserted that above all else, the job of the U.S. military is to be loyal to the Constitution. In reference to Trump, he said, “We don’t take an oath to a king, or a queen, to a tyrant or dictator or wannabe dictator.” He added that the troops did not risk their lives just to watch a “great experiment in democracy perish.”

Morgan Freeman Shares Personal Connection to ‘761st Tank Battalion: The Original Black Panthers’ Doc
For Academy Award winner and Air Force veteran Morgan Freeman, making this gripping two-hour documentary about the Black Panthers—the only Black tank unit to see combat during World War II—was an important mission. 761st Tank Battalion: The Original Black Panthers premieres Sunday, August 20 on the History Channel. A couple of years ago, when it was announced that FX was doing an American Crime Story season on Monica Lewinsky, there was a wave of nonsensical concern that if the series came out during the 2020 election cycle, it might have some sort of impact.

This speaks in part to the dilution of the HBO documentary brand, which used to be one of the industry’s gold standards and now simply seems to encompass whatever nonfiction programming — some still tremendous, it must be said — HBO is releasing at a rate of two or three docs or docuseries per week.

A couple of years ago, when it was announced that FX was doing an American Crime Story season on Monica Lewinsky, there was a wave of nonsensical concern that if the series came out during the 2020 election cycle, it might have some sort of impact.
If there’s been any similar rending of garments about HBO releasing Year One: A Political Odyssey in the middle of a midterm election cycle, I haven’t heard it. This speaks in part to the dilution of the HBO documentary brand, which used to be one of the industry’s gold standards and now simply seems to encompass whatever nonfiction programming — some still tremendous, it must be said — HBO is releasing at a rate of two or three docs or docuseries per week.

HBO debuted the trailer for Year One: A Political Odyssey, which examines President Joe Biden’s first year in office, with what the premium network calls a “rare glimpse into the inner working of the White House.”
A standout moment from the trailer is via Secretary of State Antony Blinken, talking about the chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan. “President [Ashraf] Ghani said to me on the phone, ‘I will stay and fight to the death. he fled the country the next day,” Blinken says, underscoring the extent to which the administration was taken by surprise as the country so quickly fell to the Taliban.
But other moments suggest that key figures learned from Afghanistan and sought to get ahead of the Russian threat to Ukraine, as Biden built alliances that were in place when Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered the invasion.

Fox News Media CEO Suzanne Scott wrote in a memo that Hall was transferred on Thursday from Landstuhl Medical Center in Germany to Brooke Army Medical Center located at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston.
The medical center “is a premier medical facility and Ben is receiving excellent care while he continues to recover from his serious injuries with multiple surgeries,” Scott wrote.
She added that Hall “remains in good spirits despite everything he has endured. His strength and resiliency in the face of this crisis has been nothing short of extraordinary.”

Fox News provided more details of how correspondent Benjamin Hall, severely injured in Ukraine, was evacuated from the region, over the border to Poland and ultimately to a hospital in Germany.
Last week, cameraman Pierre Zakrzewski and Oleksandra “Sasha” Kuvshynova, who was working as a freelance consultant for the network, were killed when their vehicle was struck by incoming fire near Kyiv. Hall was with them as they reported on the Russian invasion, and he is recovering at Landstuhl Medical Center.
In a segment on Monday, anchor Dana Perino credited Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and the Polish and Ukrainian Armed Forces for their assistance, as well as the group Save Our Allies. It was formed last year in response to the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan amid the U.S. withdrawal, as a way of quickly mobilizing to rescue Americans and other allies behind the border.
