The mosquito-borne Zika virus has been cited as the cause for many athletes who have decided to pass up the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. And many of them are the world’s top golfers, a sport that is making a return to the Olympics after 112 years. Already the player defections include top-ranked Jason Day of Australia; Ireland's Rory McIlroy, who is ranked No 4; and No. 8-ranked Adam Scott, also of Australia. American Jordan Spieth (No. 3) has said he is “uncertain” about participating in Rio. But analyst Mike Tirico, who recently joined NBC Sports

American golfer Dustin Johnson is citing concerns over the Zika virus as his reason for withdrawing from the upcoming Rio Olympics. Johnson, 32, is the father of an 18-month-old son, Tatum, with fiancée Paulina Gretzky, daughter of hockey great Wayne Gretzky. The couple plan to expand their family. "This was not an easy decision for me, but my concerns about the Zika virus cannot be ignored," the U.S. Open champion said in a statement, according to Espn. "Paulina and I plan to have more children in the near future and I feel it would be irresponsible to put myself, her or our family at risk.

The study aims to improve understanding of the virus by identifying potential risk factors for infection, evaluating how long the virus remains in bodily fluids and studying the reproductive outcomes of Zika-infected patients. "Zika virus infection poses many unknown risks, especially to those of reproductive age," Catherine Y. Spong, M.D., acting director of National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (Nichd), said in a statement. "Monitoring the health and...

Fan-player collisions happen sometimes in NBA games. They don't always happen to wives of other professional athletes, though. But that's what happened at a Cleveland Cavaliers game Thursday night, when Ellie Day, wife of PGA champion Jason Day was, well, run over by LeBron James as he attempted to field a loose ball during the Cavs' 104-100 win over Oklahoma City. The 6'8," 250-pound James collided with Day, who was subsequently carried from the arena and taken to MetroHealth Medical Center. LeBron James had a serious collision during Thursday night’s Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Oklahoma City Thunder game but unfortunately it was with a spectator rather than a player. The 6 foot 8 inch NBA star dove off the court after a loose ball and landed in the front rows of seating, on top of PGA golfer Jason Day’s wife, Ellie. She was then carried off the court on a stretcher in a neck brace and taken to a nearby hospital, according to multiple reports. Day is said to be Ok but was held overnight for observation. With Tiger Woods pulling out of the Masters, 24-year-old Rory McIlroy has emerged as the favorite to win at Augusta.
Rory McIlroy Favorite At Masters
McIlroy, who was at one point the World Number One ranked player in golf, is currently ranked seventh in the world and looking to capture his third major and first win at the Masters. McIlroy won the Us Open in 2011 and the PGA championship in 2012, but has only placed as high as 15th at the Masters back in 2011.
McIlroy is also looking to solidify himself as one of the new faces of golf. "Golf's in a funny place at the minute," McIlroy said. "You are getting so many different winners and there are not as many guys dominating the sport like in the past with Tiger, Vijay [Singh] and Phil," reports CBS sports.
If McIlroy can win the Masters next week, he will have won three out of four majors,...

For a while now there's been talk that 20th Century Fox is developing a Zorro reboot which would take the masked crusader from the past into the not-so-distant post-apocalyptic future. Last anyone heard of the project titled Zorro Reborn, it had passed through a few writers and landed with Gael García Bernal attached as Zorro and Ricardo de Montreuil, the director of the much buzzed about The Raven (see the short).
Turns out that in early 2012, de Montreuil shot a concept trailer in South Africa with the help of Peruvian actor Jason Day as Zorro. Jon Voight doing voice over work and Vancouver based Central doing the VFX work. The entire thing reportedly cost under $100,000 and it looks like they used every penny [Continued ...]...

20th Century Fox has been working on a reboot of "Zorro" that's supposed to be set in a post-apocalyptic world and star Gael Garcia Bernal in the title role. Today, we have the concept art and a pitch trailer that director Ricardo de Montreuil (The Raven) put together in an attempt to convince the studio that the movie is worth making. The video features Jason Day as Zorro, with Jon Voight providing the voice-over. Check everything out below. In the movie, a meteorite crashes into Earth in the future and destroys much of California and Mexico leaving them as a desert. After the dust settles, that same meteorite is discovered to be a supreme source of energy, which a new hostile corporation assumes. People begin flocking to New San Diego for work only to find out they're now being oppressed. It is then that Alejandro Fox, a descendant of Don Diego de la Vega,...

ShowBizCafe has gotten their hands on screen test footage that was shown to 20th Century Fox executives in an effort to get Ricardo de Montreuil sci-fi reboot, Zorro Reborn, greenlit. Last we heard, Mexican actor Gael García Bernal was attached to star in film, but in the footage above Peruvian actor Jason Day is seen sporting the black mask and sword. The scenes were filmed in South Aftica, and the voiceover is of legendary actor Jon Voight ("Anaconda"). Adam Scott won the second hole play-off against Angel Cabrera to become the first Australian ever to win the Masters. After his Open heartbreak Scott showed no sign of nerves, sinking pressurised putts on the eighteenth twice, once in his final round and once in the play-off, to win his maiden Major.
The 32-year-old Adelaide-born winner was playing his 48th Major, but in recent times has turned potential into reality and become one of the leading contenders for the biggest competitions. With former Tiger Woods caddie Steve Williams on his bag, Scott shot a nine under par score, including a birdie on the last, to become the clubhouse leader if only for a few minutes.
Scott found himself in a play-off because former champion Cabrera produced a delightful approach shot on the final hole to within four feet of the hole, sealing the birdie and a shoot out with Scott.
