You probably heard this story, since it was all over the news because it was so crazy, about stock in GameStop, the mall stores that sell video games, suddenly becoming hot and soaring high, to the moon, even.

What happens when a group of small-time investors take on a privileged clique of Wall Street billionaires? Absolute chaos. The new movie Dumb Money, which hits theaters on Sept. 15, is a fictionalized take on the infamous GameStop saga, when the beleaguered video game chain became a meme stock thanks to a Reddit user known as RoaringKitty (played by Paul Dano).
‘Dumb Money’ is a fictionalized take on the GameStop saga
In early 2021, RoaringKitty – real name, Keith Gill – and his online compatriots banded together to execute a short squeeze of GameStop stock. The move sent share prices skyrocketing and ended up costing the hedge fund owners who’d bet on GameStop’s failure a ton of money. It also made the little guys rich (at least on paper).
The wild trading was possible in part due to Robinhood, a retail investing platform that many investors were using to buy and sell stock.

If there’s one thing HBO’s Industry and the Oscar-winning The Big Short have taught me, it’s that no matter how many times characters explain the ins and outs of the stock market, I will forever remain immune to its intricacies.

You could say that Craig Gillespie got in on the ground floor. Sort of. During the early days of the Covid lockdown — i.e., the early days of what would become the GameStop stock phenomenon that his new feature “Dumb Money” chronicles — one of the filmmaker’s sons returned home to live with Gillespie and his wife.
“He started dabbling in the stock exchange. He was looking for opportunities everywhere,” Gillespie said in a recent interview with IndieWire. “He found WallStreetBets and started following, and he was on there for months prior to the GameStop thing. He was in it, as it was happening in real-time. He’d be around the house, like, ‘Hey, Elon Musk just tweeted GameStonk, people are freaking out. Mark Cuban just commented on it.’ So you started...

At once a rowdy comedy and a weirdly affecting tale of working class solidarity, “Dumb Money” is perhaps the best period piece ever made about a period that just happened. The movie, directed by Craig Gillespie in full-on comedy mode, takes us all the way back to the early days of the Covid-19 pandemic, when a cast of individual investors took on Wall Street with nothing but a few dollars and an unwavering sense of team spirit.
It feels almost silly to recount the broad strokes of the narrative, given how recently we all lived through it. The time was 2020. The stock was GameStop. The hero was a cat person live-streaming out of his basement. It’s difficult to imagine a viewer going into this story entirely blind. But unlike many ripped-from-the-headlines movies, “Dumb Money,” which plays like “The Big Short” for underdogs, has no trouble justifying its existence, even...

Sony Pictures’ “Dumb Money” could be the most frightening horror movie this year, and the Oscars would be smart to embrace it. From the critically acclaimed director Craig Gillespie, his smart and at times tragic look at the GameStop stock story of 2021 entertained the audiences of the Toronto Film Festival on Friday night where it held its world premiere.
TIFF CEO Cameron Bailey introduced the film and Gillespie brought up his fellow producers Aaron Ryder and Teddy Schwarzman, along with EPs and writers Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo, who sported the film’s title on each of their purses.

Ashleigh Warren signed up for Max’s reality series Swiping America because she wanted to find love. But her journey didn’t go exactly as she expected. The dating-focused docuseries, which released its final two episodes on June 29, follows four New Yorkers as they travel to eight cities across the U.S. The show’s producers did the swiping, sending the quartet out on a series of blind dates with local singles.
Ash struggled to connect with her dates on ‘Swiping America’
As you might imagine, some dates went better than others. During their first stop in Asheville, North Carolina, Ash clicked with Jordan emotionally, but she didn’t “see anything there intimately.” In Miami, a seemingly promising second date went south when Zad revealed she was vegan and Ash’s meat-eating would be an issue.
As the cast jetted from city to city, Ash found herself struggling to connect with anyone.

Sometimes, a movie couple has so much chemistry you wonder if they have worked together before.
Eva Bourne and Rushi Kota exhibited a natural connection in Make Me A Match, even though only Eva Bourne was a seasoned Hallmark professional. Rushi Kota made his Hallmark debut and his rom-com debut in this film
Did their sarcastic chemistry work? Could you tell they were made for each other instantly, or did you think they'd be butting heads constantly?
In the movie, Bourne plays Vivi, who works at Data Mate, a dating app company, and learned her fiance cheated on her because he was tired of living up to being perfect.
Initially, Vivi was jaded about love and believed in chasing after it, and if she changed the formula of her app, she'd find love.
Cute Stranger: What did you wish for? You owe me after that lump on the head.

The official trailer for Sony’s “Dumb Money” has dropped, shedding light on how a group of amateur investors artificially increased the stock value of GameStop, the popular video game retailer.
The short squeeze occurred in January 2021 after Reddit users on a page called “Wall Street Bets” united to catalyze a market explosion. As a result, significant hedge funds and independent short sellers incurred devastating financial loss.
Based on author Ben Mezrich’s “The Antisocial Network,” “Dumb Money” similarly centers around the Reddit users behind the phenomenon with actors Seth Rogen, Paul Dano, Sebastian Stan and Pete Davidson in lead roles.
The star-studded cast also includes Nick Offerman, Shailene Woodley, America Ferrera, Dane DeHaan, Vincent D’Onofrio, Clancy Brown, Anthony Ramos, Kate Burton, Christina Brucato, Deniz Akdeniz, Talia Ryder, Myha’la Herrold, Larry Owens and Rushi Kota.

Meanwhile, Eric and Amy’s (Natalie Martinez) adoption process became a little more real as they sit around the Thanksgiving Day table in the nurse world. Below, Barnett opens up about Eric’s biggest moments from the pivotal episode, reveals his own personal connection with one of the storylines, and much more. (Credit: Eliza Morse/NBC) Joe is upset when he learns that Eric knew about Amy’s one-night stand with Bobby. Will that little rift become a bigger problem? "A party crasher that is out of this world." Quiver Distr. has released an official trailer for an indie horror comedy titled Useless Humans, marking the feature directorial debut of filmmaker Stephen Ohl. This sounds and looks like one of those extra wacky, shoestring budget indie films that is ambitious but actually impressively entertaining. A 30th birthday -- and the survival of mankind -- are left hanging in the balance after a mysterious alien creature crashes the party, forcing four childhood friends to save the night. Starring Josh Zuckerman, Rushi Kota, Davida Williams, Luke Youngblood, Edy Ganem, Maya Kazan, Joey Kern, and Iqbal Theba. This surprisingly looks like some good, stupid fun with a terrible man-in-suit monster and more shenanigans. Might actually be a good time, I want to watch this. Check it out below. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Stephen Ohl's Useless Humans, direct from YouTube:...

Hey, "Grey's Anatomy" fans. We hope you guys enjoyed the big season 15 premiere episodes 1 and 2 this past Thursday night,September 27, 2018. We think it certainly did not disappoint as Alex and Jo went on a life-changing honeymoon. We found out what was really going on with that whole Meredith and Andrew Deluca steamy situation. We saw the new, hunky doctors Link and Nico stroll onto the scene. It turned out that Teddy isn't the new interim chief after all. Owen and Amelia got incredibly romantic and so much more. Now, it's time to go over what is in store for next Thursday night's episode 3. It sounds like it will definitely feature a lot of drama and intrigue as Richard gets to work on a medical mystery. Maggie gets too overwhelmed by Teddy's secret pregnancy news. Meredith gets a new, very special type of patient and more. Episode 3 is revealed to be entitled,...

As the Emmy-winning medical drama Grey’s Anatomy prepares to scrub in for their 15th season, ABC has released key art ahead of their Sept. 27 two-hour premiere.
The new key art features Ellen Pompeo’s titular Meredith Grey smiling with the backdrop of Seattle’s skyline with the caption “15 seasons of feels.”
There were, indeed, many feels in Shonda Rhimes-created show through its run and the 15th season promises to bring even more feels.
The two-hour premiere will feature the episodes “With a Wonder and a Wild Desire” and “Broken Together.” The first hour of the premiere will have the doctors at Grey Sloan Memorial vie for a new position. Meredith is seemingly distracted and struggles to stay focused, and Maggie finds herself the keeper of a big secret while Amelia and Owen try to figure out their relationship. Meanwhile, Jo and Alex’s honeymoon doesn’t go exactly as planned.
