Walt Disney Pictures has purchased the movie rights to the graphic novel series Delilah Dirk And The Turkish Lieutenant from author Tony Cliff. The action/adventure series takes place in the 19th century and follows the protagonist Delilah Dirk who is described as a ‘female Indiana Jones.’
Delilah Dirk is a master swordsman who is trained in over fifty sword-wielding techniques as she clashes with pirates while seeking mysterious artifacts and treasures across the world. The adventurer befriends a petty officer named Selim who she takes on her adventures. The series became a New York Times bestseller in 2013 and was named A Publishers Weekly Best Child’s book of 2013 and Best Teen of 2013 from Kirkus Reviews.
Roy Lee, Mark Mower, and Justin Giritlian are set to produce the film with Vertigo Comics’ Miri Yoon and Disney executives Tendo Nagenda and Chaz Salembier overseeing the project.

Escaping a Turkish prison, and in doing so befriending a mild-mannered officer named Selim who becomes her sidekick, she battles pirates and gets around on her flying boat while seeking adventures around the globe.
The plan is to develop a live-action film with producers Roy Lee, Mark Mower and Justin Giritkian. Writers are currently being sought.
