It's not just X Factor winners who keep us coming back year in, year out, it's the ludicrous novelty acts who make the show so memorable. In the words of Cheryl Fernandez-Versini, "it may be borderline bonkers, but I love that".
But since Louis Walsh's departure from the show, there's been a noticeable lack of novelty fodder. Damn them for employing judges who actually value musical talent over mad outfits and insane dance routines.
So in tribute to the former finalists who may have made us visibly cringe but always smile, here's nine of our favourites, brought to you in association with TalkTalk's new Bopheads app:

The X Factor has been honoured with the Media Recognition Award at this year's Attitude Awards.
The accolade was given to the ITV series for "proudly showcas[ing] many talented Lgbt singers" during its 10-year run.
"The likes of Joe McElderry, Lucy Spraggan, Rylan Clark, Jaymi Hensley and, erm, Diva Fever have all been welcomed into viewers' hearts during The X Factor's 10-year run, and the show's contribution to Lgbt visibility shouldn't be underestimated," Attitude said.
"As well as new judge Nick Grimshaw, the current series has already thrown up a handful of varied Lgbt talent including the very unique Seann Miley Moore, who auditioned in a leather skirt and admitted, 'Music has allowed me to be me. If it makes you feel happy and right, then do it'. Amen!"

And so it's over. Ben Haenow has been crowned the winner of The X Factor after months of auditions and more auditions and Boot Camp and Judges' Houses and live shows. Now what?
Well, we're not quite ready to say goodbye just yet, so we've collected some of our favourite moments of the series. We're not talking performances as such - we're talking all the silly sideshow bits and bobs that have made this series. Are any as good as Jedward doing their own backing vocals or Rachel Adedeji falling over? We'll leave that up to you to decide.
So without further ado, here they are, in no particular order...
1. Only The Young shouty man
We're not quite sure when we started noticing Only The Young shouty man, but that's just because it feels like he's always been there. The over-exuberant supporter has invaded our consciousness to such an extent...

The X Factor brought back several of its most memorable performers for a medley on Saturday's show (December 13).
Billed as the show's "greatest hits", host Dermot O'Leary introduced a version of Black Eyed Peas' 'The Time (Dirty Bit)' that began with Stevi Ritchie flying through the crowd.
Ritchie was soon joined on stage by past contestants Chloe Jasmine, Wagner Fiuza-Carrilho, Diva Fever and Chico Slimani.
Wagner was accompanied by two scantily-clad women while he played the bongos and rapped the line: "All these girls like my swagger, they call me big tiger!"

Katie Waissel was last onto the stage wearing a Lady Gaga-like stage costume, complete with a blocky black mask.
Waissel lived up to her outspoken reputation by appearing to tell judge Simon Cowell that he "owes her" during her appearance.

Eight-piece boybands, middle-aged men dressed as Egyptians getting honey rubbed on their chests, Louis Walsh being... Louis Walsh. Yes, this series of X Factor might not have been the most thrilling, but even in a non-vintage year, there has been plenty to laugh at and enjoy.
This evening's final features Fleur East, Ben Haenow and Andrea Faustini battling for the prize of a record contract and the chance to hit the charts in time for Christmas. All the betting and polls seem to suggest that it's a one-horse race with Fleur running away with it, but The X Factor has thrown up surprises in the past, so nothing can be ruled out.

The X Factor has helped launch the career of dozens of pop acts over the last decade. It has also given us Chico Time. You win some, you lose some.
Here is our definitive ranking of the 15 most ludicrous acts to ever grace Saturday nights on ITV.
15. Rylan
Rylan was already a regular on the reality TV circuit before The X Factor (he was a runner-up in the Sky Living monstrosity Signed By Katie Price), and he was a little bit more knowing and calculated than genuinely bonkers.
However, even if those floods of tears at Nicole Scherzinger's Judges' Houses were staged, they were staged brilliantly. The perfect I'm-mad-me contestant after a decade of near misses.
14. 2 Shoes
Charley Bird and Lucy Texeira were harmless and fairly innocuous as a pop duo. They spoke only in Essex slang ("Roll!") and insisted on calling each other "shoe", but the most ludicrous...

The Singer Takes It All begins tomorrow - but this ain't your standard talent show. Nope, it's all a bit sillier than that - hopeful contestants will take to a moving walkway to give it their all, but viewers at home can decide on an app whether they deserve to move forward to the Gold Zone (and a potential cash prize) or if they should move backwards and right off the stage. This is going to be good.
But we wanted to know a little bit more, so who better to ask than host Alan Carr himself? Read on for your guide to The Singer Takes It All...
1. This isn't like all those other singing shows - don't expect any sob stories for one thing.

X Factor returns this weekend and it's gearing up to take over your lives until Christmas. And even if you're the sort of person who would normally rather eat a plate of dog food than spend Saturday night with Louis Walsh, there are at least a couple of reasons to be excited about the show's 10th series.
1. Loveable oddballs.
Without X Factor we would never have seen Jedward performing the talking bit in 'Oops I Did It Again', watched Kitty Brucknell in a glow-in-the-dark catsuit, witnessed the horror of Diva Fever or, most importantly, been treated to the genius of Wagner.
From 'Loaf Shack' to bongo-drum bashing, from backing dancers rubbing their boobs to owning a pet lion, Wagner remains the greatest ever X Factor oddball in our eyes, but hopefully this year, he can be topped.
And don't even get us started on the greatest act to never reach the live shows.

The Wanted made their X Factor debut on tonight’s results show.
The British-Irish pop boy band showcased ‘Lose My Mind,’ a single from their self titled debut album which is due for release in early 2011.
They previously appeared on spin off show The Xtra Factor and Nathan from the group has reportedly got his eye on controversial contestant, Cher Lloyd.
Tonight the boys started their song in what looked like a fairground ride and we know we’re not their target audience, so the boys probably won’t care what we think, but from our side of the screen they sounded really pretty awful!
Some of the X Factor groups are better than this…..Fyd had more energy, One Direction are cuter and Diva Fever were much more entertaining.

David Walliams has shared his thoughts on this year’s X Factor finalists.
The Little Britain star told Heat that he and his wife Lara Stone are completely besotted with Liverpool mum of two, Rebecca Ferguson.
Walliams said: “We both love Rebecca Ferguson. I said, ‘I’d like to bathe her,’ and Lara said, ‘We should put her to bed, tuck her in and read her a story!’.
“She’s so sweet. Every time Lara sees Rebecca on the show, she’s like ‘She’s so beautiful’. She’s kind of magical, really. Everyone seems talented this year.”
On Cher Lloyd, he added: “I actually think Cher is really talented. She’s a bit more street and edgy than some of them.
“Sometimes The X Factor seems a bit old-fashioned, but she feels very current. It’s an extraordinary situation, though, your fate being in the hands of Louis Walsh.

X Factor finalist Katie Waissel is reportedly ‘gutted’ that so many of her fellow contestants detest her.
The 24 year old singer has failed to connect with members of the public and the press and along with Cher Lloyd, has had the most negative attention focused on her this year. However, the former reality TV star is said to be even more upset that people who spend every day with her don’t like her either.

She keeps saying: ‘I can’t believe even the other acts hate me. What have I done to deserve this? I can’t take this anymore.’
When Katie started out on The X Factor, she was already friends with fellow finalist Storm Lee,...

Simon Cowell has accepted full responsibility for tonight’s elimination of Diva Fever from The X Factor.
On hearing that he would be leaving the show, Craig Saggers told Dermot O’Leary that he blamed their early departure on a bad song choice for last night’s show.
Responding to the accusations, Diva Fever’s mentor Simon Cowell said:
“I accept full responsibility Ok, I let you down and I am sorry.”
Craig hit back:
“Well you need to make it up!”
The boys performed Barbara Streisand on Saturday’s live show. The judges seemed impressed at the time and afterwards Dannii Minogue raved:
Guys that song is on my Christmas party playlist. I’m normally getting really serious about the singing and critiquing on this show, I’ve been known for that in the past. But I like you guys, I like you, I like the performance so it did it for me.

Storm Lee and Diva Fever have become the next two acts to be eliminated from The X Factor. Lee was the first act to leave after Dermot O'Leary revealed that the aspiring rockstar had received the least public votes in a bottom three that also included Belle Amie and Diva Fever. After the result, Lee commented: "You know, I just want everyone out there who's ever believed in something to never, ever give up because you haven't seen the best of me yet, let me tell you." Simon Cowell's groups then took part in a final sing-off, which saw Diva Fever cover Gloria Gaynor's 'I Will Survive' and Belle Amie perform a tearful rendition of Fergie's 'Big Girls Don't Cry'. After the showdown, Louis Walsh cast the first vote to send Diva Fever home, arguing that Belle Amie (more)...

Diva Fever returned to The X Factor tonight in all their camp glory!
The duo admitted that they have had a hard week as Craig has suffered with laryngitis and made rehearsing difficult.
They took to the stage dressed all in white and started on an original version of what we think was Boney M’s Gotta Go Home. It was a fabulous and energetic performance and what the boys lacked in vocal prowess, they more than made up for in fun and entertainment value.
Judges Comments:
Louis Walsh: You always put a smile on everybody’s face. It was like a big big disco in Blackpool and everybody was having a good time. Did Simon pick the song? Simon, heroes Boney M?
Dannii Minogue: Guys that song is on my Christmas party playlist. I’m normally getting really serious about the singing and critiquing on this show,...

Diva Fever singers Craig Saggers and Joe Al-Smadi have reportedly stopped speaking, because they can’t agree on which lines to take on tomorrow night’s song.
The X Factor finalists barely scraped into the competition as Simon Cowell’s wildcard act and now they are obsessing so much with keeping their place, they are at each other’s throats over the logistics over their performance.
A source told Metro:
‘Diva Fever have been arguing throughout the day on which lines each of them gets to sing of this week’s song. It’s not ideal with just 48 hours to go.’
The row causes problems for the producers and behind the scenes X Factor staff. Cheryl’s girls category have been arguing all week and yesterday Wagner and John are said to have fought over deodorant. Let’s hope there are sparks on tomorrow’s show!

Bookmakers are tipping Treyc Cohen to be the most successful wildcard act on The X Factor. On Saturday's show, it is believed that the judges will announce four wildcard acts. The new contestants will be chosen from a pool of acts, who just missed out on spots in the final 12. Cheryl Cole was spotted filming near Cohen's home earlier this week, fuelling rumours that she is the Girls Aloud star's extra pick. Paddy Power are now taking bets on which wildcard act will progress the furthest in the competition, which Cohen is currently leading with odds of 13/8. Cinema worker Paije Richardson (13/8), Diva Fever (5/1) and Wagner Fiuza-Carrilho (12/1) are also picking up plenty of support from punters at the moment. Girlband Husstle (20/1), (more)...

Check out the moment when the final 32 X Factor acts discovered who would be mentoring their group.
It was revealed on Sunday’s bootcamp show that Dannii Minogue will be mentoring the boys, Cheryl Cole has the girls, Simon Cowell will look after the groups and Louis Walsh has been landed with the older acts.
Diva Fever admitted that they were shocked and somewhat disappointed when they discovered that Simon Cowell would be over their category.
They told Phillip and Holly on This Morning:
“When he walked down those steps, we were thinking ‘I hope it’s Cheryl’ because it had been rumoured that she would be our judge. Then the doors opened and Simon walked down with those shades on and I turned round to Craig and said “we are f*cked!”
Louis Walsh was dejected when he discovered he would be looking after the over 28′s. He lamented:...

Over 200,000 people applied for this year’s The X Factor, and after auditions in Birmingham, Cardiff, Dublin, Glasgow, London and Manchester, they have been whittled down to just over 200 who have made it through to Bootcamp.
Some failed to impress while others wowed…but now the fight begins!
In the first of this weekend’s Bootcamp double bill, the remaining acts head to London’s Wembley Arena where the stakes have never been higher and pushed to their limits by Simon Cowell, Louis Walsh and Guest Judge, Nicole Scherzinger.
Commenting on those through to Bootcamp, Simon says: “I’m going to push them so much harder this year, I mean seriously.”
Louis adds: “They’ve got nowhere to hide, the real competition starts now.”
The acts will be tested like never before, and put through their paces with vocal training and choreography as they battle it out to secure their place at Judges’ Houses.
