Parents will use whatever tools are at their disposal to help their children, so despite what Gaby Hoffman shouts at Benedict Cumberbatch in the first trailer for “Eric,” it makes perfect sense that a New York puppeteer would a big blue puppet to help find his missing son. Right? Right.

During the Paris Fan Festival, Taz Skylar, the actor cast to portray Sanji in Netflix’s One Piece Live-Action series, opened up about the initial wave of negative comments he faced on social media following the casting announcement.
During the festival’s Q/A session, Taz recounted his very first exposure to criticism and it was around the time when the One Piece casting news came out. He revealed that his friends informed him that his name was trending on Twitter alongside references to his resemblance to rapper Eminem.
“The best way to get me to do something is tell me I can’t do it,” Skylar stated, revealing that rather than being deterred by the negative feedback, he found motivation in the challenge. “I remember I laughed because I was like, you know what, they have a point. I do kind of look a little bit like Em,” he added.

From creators and executive producers Eric Newman (Narcos), Noah Oppenheim (Jackie) and Michael Schmidt, Zero Day asks the question: How do we find truth in a world in crisis, one seemingly being torn apart by forces outside our control? And in an era rife with conspiracy theory and subterfuge, how much of those forces are products of our own doing, perhaps even of our imagining?
At the center of the narrative is Mullen (Robert De Niro), a popular but complicated figure who is yanked back from retirement to head up a commission investigating a global cyberattack.
The show also stars Angela Bassett, Dan Stevens, Matthew Modine, Bill Camp, McKinley Belcher III, Gaby Hoffman, Clark Gregg, Mark Ivanir, Lizzy Caplan, Jesse Plemons, Joan Allen and Connie Britton.

There’s a version of “One Piece” that follows Eiichiro Oda’s original manga more closely. In the original story, the East Blue Saga chronicles Luffy and his pirate crew’s adventures right until they hit Loguetown, the last big port before they hit the Grand Line — a stretch of sea known for bigger, badder pirates and more impressive treasure.
It’s a storytelling formula that’s common in manga. You spend the first major arc building up your hero and introducing viewers to the stakes of this world and end the story right before the next major challenge. But instead of ending with a multi-enemy fight at Loguetown, the first season of Netflix’s live-action “One Piece” stops right before that, ending with Luffy’s (Iñaki Godoy) fight with Arlong (McKinley Belcher III). The culprit? Berries — er, money.

Netflix’s live-action adaptation of Eiichiro Oda’s long-running manga series One Piece launched last week and seems to have been a big success. Fans are eager for more, and producers told Variety that scripts for One Piece season 2 are already complete.
“We’ve got scripts ready,” said Marty Adelstein, CEO of Tomorrow Studios, which produces the series. Production on One Piece season 2 obviously can’t get underway until the SAG-AFTRA strike is resolved, but once they’re able to start, Tomorrow Studios president Beck Clements said the new season could debut as early as next year. “Realistically, hopefully, a year away, if we move very quickly, and that is a possibility,” Clements said. “Somewhere between a year and 18 months, we could be ready for air.“

Netflix’s live-action adaptation of Eiichiro Oda’s bestselling manga “One Piece” launched Friday, giving fans their long-awaited chance to compare the eight-episode first season to its print and anime versions.
The manga takes place in a fantastical world where pirates and marines battle for control over the Blue Sea. Young boy Monkey D. Luffy (Iñaki Godoy) grows up aspiring to be the next king of the pirates, despite his inability to swim — a side effect of the magical “Gum Gum” Devil Fruit he ate as a child, which gave him an extraordinarily stretchy body as a gift from the sea, along with the curse that he cannot survive in its waters. One of Netflix’s most hyped originals has finally premiered on the streaming seas: “One Piece.”
From series developers Matt Owens and Steven Maeda, “One Piece” is based on the manga of the same name by Eiichiro Oda. It follows the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy (Iñaki Godoy), an optimistic young man who vows to one day be King of the Pirates. In eight episodes, Netflix’s adaptation was able to capture 95 chapters of the manga.
Because the live-action adaptation is so faithful to its source material, that means we can figure out roughly where “One Piece” wants to go if there is a future for this series. Wondering who that man was at the end of Season 1? Here’s what to know about Smoker and why he’s important to this show’s future.

A live-action adaptation of Oda Eiichirô’s manga One Piece sounds like a dicey proposition, especially with Netflix manning the ship. With decades worth of source material to draw from since the series began in 1997, a faithful adaptation would require a near-unthinkable number of seasons from the infamously cancel-happy streamer. Furthermore, compared to its Dragon Ball-inspired contemporaries, the material is unabashedly cartoonish, with much of the manga’s dialogue shouted by an enormous cast of characters with improbable abilities and bodily proportions. A true adaptation would be a more expensive, elaborate undertaking than Cowboy Bebop, which Netflix axed after a single season.
And yet, One Piece defies the odds by being faithful to its source while also standing on its own. Its first season covers a little more than 10 of 100-plus (and counting) manga volumes, making a small dent in the story of Monkey D. Luffy (Iñaki Godoy), the happy-go-lucky,...

Two years ago, Netflix debuted Cowboy Bebop, a live-action adaptation of the beloved Japanese anime about spacefaring bounty hunters in the 22nd century. I found this new version lively and thrilling, but I admittedly had never seen the original. For the most part, it seemed, the most interested audience for it were fans of the anime, and they did not like any of the changes made. Unsurprisingly, Netflix did not order a second season.

It rarely takes very long for Monkey D. Luffy (Iñaki Godoy), the irrepressible hero of Netflix’s One Piece, to announce his grand plan to everyone. “I’m going to be king of the pirates,” he declares, always with a bright smile that never seems to have known even a shade of self-doubt.
It sounds like a little boy’s fantasy the first time we hear it — and the second, and the third, and probably the hundredth too. But over eight hour-long episodes, that youthful pluck starts to seem less like a reason to doubt him than a reason to believe in him. One Piece is a celebration of the power of childlike wonder that itself feels like the delightful product of a kid’s imagination.
To be fair, there’s plenty of reason to be skeptical at first that the young man drifting alone in a run-down sailboat has what it takes.

Netflix's "One Piece" series officially hits the streamer on Aug. 31. On Jan. 30, Netflix shared the first look at the live-action series (which is based on the beloved manga by Eiichiro Oda) in the form of a poster, where we see Iñaki Godoy as the series's main character, Monkey D. Luffy, from behind, wearing his iconic straw hat.
The "One Piece" manga series began publishing way back in 1997. In it, Oda tells the story of Luffy, a pirate who can gain magical abilities by eating a special type of fruit. He's determined to get the titular One Piece, which makes the bearer the king of all pirates. He and his Straw Hat Pirates - which include the sword fighter Roronoa Zoro, the sometimes cowardly Usopp, and the prince Sanji - face down all sorts of enemies on their quest. The manga is still running, but Oda said in August 2022 that...

Eiichiro Oda, the reclusive creator of One Piece, is praising Netflix’s live-action series adaptation of his bestselling manga title ahead of its August 31 premiere.
Via a “snail phone” given to him by One Piece star Iñaki Godoy and the cast and crew of the series, Oda affirms his approval of the adaptation in a video shared on the show’s verified Instagram account.
“As a Hollywood production, the action and VFX are great, not to mention the performances by the cast. But above all I want to call attention to how perfect the Straw Hat cast are,” says Oda. “It’s like you’re watching the Straw Hats in real life, which I’d love for you to savor.”

Ahead of its debut on Thursday, Netflix has released the final trailer for “One Piece” as well as several new photos from the upcoming series.
Whereas the first trailer for the series served as more of an introduction to Luffy (Iñaki Godoy) and his quest to be King of the Pirates, this final trailer highlights more of the action in the series.
The clip jumps between battle after battle that will appear in the series, each one wilder than the last. There are flinging cannonballs; glimpses of Buggy the Clown (Jeff Ward), a foe who can attack by removing his own body parts; appearances from Arlong (McKinley Belcher III), a fish-man pirate with a saw-like nose; and of course shots of Luffy’s biology-defying and rubbery attacks.
“If the path seems too easy, you’re on the wrong path,” Luffy says in the trailer to his new crew.
